I really don’t think “happier” is supposed t be petty. I think it’s supposed to be her showing acceptance of losing him, she understands that she’s lost him and wants him to be happy. But it’s not petty of her to not want him to be as happy as he was with her. It’s just her wanting to validate the feelings they had for each other at the time they were together.

remember how drivers license starts w a car turning on? the end of hope ur ok kinda sounds like the car turning off, which would make sense since drivers license completely blew up and that was the first song most people had heard of her, so it’s like the perfect closure

Wow, it's so rare to see someone react to the album without hearing any of the singles. I love that your friend completely understood the meaning of the blonde lyric in driver's license because as a woc that's how I interpreted it too. Wonderful reaction. I know the last song was very difficult to listen to, but Olivia wanted it as the last song from the album to emphasize hope. After all the other songs talking about heartbreak and jealousy, this song is to say that we have each other to get through all the rough times.

“I’m sure his career will be fine…” *big eye roll* I felt that in my soul.

Check All I want from Olivia. It’s her first published song she ever wrote. They let her write the song for HSM at 16. It’s a great ballad.

The ending of hope u r ok sounds like the beginning of driver's license the song that began it all. It's a full circle.

I did theatre in high school where I was friends with everyone and they started to date and break up and date other people and we did a great job at realizing their breakups don’t have a reflection on how we should feel about the people in the relationship (unless one took advantage of the other or abused them in some way which is a different scenario) but a lot of the time it just doesn’t work. Especially when you’re young and barley know yourself let alone what you want from a partner. Some get lucky and find the one for them and I truly am jealous of that (but supportive) but it doesn’t make the person who broke up with the other evil. You can’t hate people who did nothing to you. I would rather my friend break up with my other friend then watch them stay and pretend to like them. Sometimes people just don’t work and that’s life. I hate when fans hate on their favs relationships or ex’s these people deserve to not get death threats from being normal people. I loved what you said!

I really love how the album ended. Like the first 10 songs were about her, her heartbreak and her insecurities and the last song is about other people who have had worse luck than her. And how the last note was reminiscent of the first notes of drivers license- the song that started this whole thing.

What a beautifully written album 😍. But Joshua doesn't deserve the hate he gets. Olivia's side of the story is valid but there are obviously parts of the story we might never get to hear. Hearts break even when good guys are involved. People like people and sometimes it doesn't work out. And sometimes nothing we say can save us from the fall-out. And you know, it's never simple... never easy... never a clean break... Liv's side is the only one we know like the back of our hand. 🙂

Sabrina (the girl Joshua is allegedly started dating after Olivia) is not part of the HMTMTS cast. She also is a Disney star, but I am not sure she was part of any Disney projects recently. Also all the relationship drama is rumored, none of the people involved in it have confirmed that they dated. Yes it seems like that is what happened, but we should be careful and not present it as a fact. Sabrina (who wouldn't even be the person who is to blame for the whole thing) has gotten death threads because of this situation and Joshua also got a lot of hate. Olivia said that even though her songs are based on real feelings they are not necessarily based on reality, "deja vu" for example is about seeing someone you had a relationship with move on and do all the things you did together, with someone else, which is rooted in real feelings, but the relationship and the scenarios are mostly fictional and not based on her experience. The strawberry ice cream in Malibu or watching reruns of glee are just things she and her producer came up with and people often still read things into it.

Two days ago, it turned a year since my cousin committed suicide. The fact that he was only up the road from me , yet we never talked because it was so much of an age gap was always heartbreaking for me. He didn't spend much time with his parents and brother, yet the week before he died he spent the week with them. You really never know whether someone is genuinely okay. She's mentioned in interviews that almost all of the songs were written when she was 17, so last year. They're definitely not all about Joshua or that relationship and I think that while they do relate to her experiences there is probably a lot added for artistic effect. She wrote happier when she was 16 and Brutal at 18 but all of them are relatively recent.

Lennon is such an incredible songwriter too

This album could not have come at a better time, seriously she is writing my 2021! I was with a guy for 5 years, we got engaged and were engaged for one year and he broke up with me all of a sudden and then 2 weeks later he gets a new girlfriend. Thank you Olivia for writing the story of my life and continuing to help me get through this breakup. Absolutely ❤️this reaction from you two, very relatable.

I personally have never been in a toxic/or abusive romantic relationship, but I have had toxic and abusive friendships, and this abulm still hits me hard because of the songwriting; Its amazing to me how all albums about toxic/abusive relationships and/or heartbreak can still hit the mark of people in or have been in a toxic/abusive friendship, and how it can even hit people who haven't been in bad relationshipsor friendships. It also is surprising that an abulm can bring out these kind of emotions within that i didnt even know a human could feel, specifically being of someone who is still in high-school.

I dont get why people think they're friends. if you've been keeping up with olivia you would know that her friends and family have liked and implied not so kind things towards j and s, I doubt they would do that if Olivia was cool with them. also, joshua did not "come out" as queer, he did not come out at all. he said that all his life people have made assumptions about his sexuality and he didbt like that, not that he was queer.

also it all happened when she was 17 and she turned 18 literally less than 3 months ago, it wasnt that long ago. she even said she wrote brutal as the last song on the album and she was already 18 by that time.

Like tbh I would’ve said that I was 18 even if I wrote it some time before I turned 18 so I don’t get why she wrote she was 17 lmao And he didn’t say he was queer but you can see that it’s what he meant Queer doesn’t mean gay,queer means you don’t specify what sexuality you identify as,you just say queer
