Soul Vinyl Tag 2024

This year's Soul #vinylcommunity Tag is brought to you by DJ Vinyl Vertigo, and was a fun one, but man did the Danger get talking. Soul is his book, so of course he's gonna be talkin' it. Here are some links to items I mentioned in the video:
‪@retromusings‬ ‪@melomano4145‬ and ‪@6inchpianist‬ are my easy Soul channel favourites in the VC.
Need more about Willie Hutch? Believe me, you do! Here are a couple of tasters from one of the sadly unsung legends of Soul:

Hi Craig, I've just posted my Soul Tag too. I'm still quite a Soul novice so after your first Al Green record I know relatively few you show here. Dang! I totally forgot about Billy Preston. I went with the Temptations for that Group/Solo pair, but I got the wrong brother! D'oh. Great Soul Tag! Well done. Cheers

Craig outstanding Soul Tag I truly agree that Al Green I’m still in love with you is a masterpiece his best . The Dramatics is my group “ Get off my Mountain” is amazing Craig killer pick. Willie Hutch is one of the most underrated soul artist that Self portrait is a classic and his sound track “The Mack” killer soundtrack. Craig Danger I really enjoyed this have a great rest of the week.

Little Ester is one of my favorites. I did a "Roots of Soul" video about a year ago featuring her.

C’mon, Craig. We all know that “Let’s Stay Together” is the best song ever recorded. Just tell it like it is. I’m gonna have to think about that “Best Soul Double Album (not by Stevie)” statement. Although Marvin’s “Hear, My Dear”, might have something to say about that. Excellent tagging.

Haha. You may be right about Here, My Dear. I found a copy in my garage recently, but was annoyed that when I tried to play it, I discovered it had been used as a drink coaster/ashtray for what looks like some seriously raging parties. It's on my want list however. Just listened to Let's Get It On the other night, and I think I might be heading down a Marvin Gaye path. Good way to go, I think. Cheers! 😁

A video from the USA vinyl community with no Fleetwood Mac or Aerosmith ! Thank f**k !. Willie Hutch has been round since mid-60's as a writer [Hutchinson] and earliest 45 I have is ABC Dunhill "The Duck" which is '65 0r '66 but yes some great tracks for Motown. Jerry Butler's earlier '60's Mercury albums were good too. "I dig you baby" is a classic track. His later Vee-Jay recordings are nice too. "Giving up on love" and "I don't want to see you cry" I always thought Al Green on Hi was very samey but then my top male artist is Tyrone Davis and he was too, but I suppose you can never get too much of a good thing. Leon Haywood had a couple of albums in the '60's on Fat Fish and Decca.

Always appreciate a deeply knowledgeable comment, and this certainly qualifies! You may want to check out the other "Soul Tag 2024" videos. It's an almost guaranteed "Aerosmith-free zone"! I can only agree on Jerry Butler. The more I hear his mid period stuff, the more I like it. The Motown disco stuff is a lot less appealing, but even that has started to grow on me. Love me some Tyrone. I just bought a reissue of Turn Back The Hands Of Time around Christmas. Great album. Never see his pre-'76 stuff out there, but when I do, I'm an eager buyer. Cheers to you, sir. Comment of the week, right here! 😁

@@vinylrecordplayer I've got most of Tyrone's Dakar and Columbia albums and a few Dakar 45s on UK Atlantic. I'm in the UK by the way. Used to visit the USA a lot between 79-95 buying 45s and albums and had a shop in Manchester from 88-2000 selling soul music. I wasn't the only UK guy doing it so tons of US albums ended up here. Only bought M- and sealed and usually for peanuts. Even before that there were US albums turning up in my area in mid 70's.brought over by cut-out companies like NRS, Bostocks and Global. They were usually priced at 99p which at the time was about $2.50. Similarly in other parts of the UK. NRS had loads of Dakar/Brunswick albums plus All-Platinum and Stang label albums. Thousands of Chess/Checker/Cadet and Philips 45s at 10p. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dWmmz65pirvSpso.html Above is a nice reggae soul track which is big in our clubs.
