Lyrics:
I'm dancing in the shadows of life
And death is all around me tonight
I miss you making love to me right
Beside myself I'm holding you tight
Someone is waiting for me to rise
And dive into the ocean I cried
And I cried and I cried my baby to sleep
Beside myself my soul to keep
Right beside you I see
Right beside you I stay
Right beside you I'll be
Right beside you always

Danny Dubs, I know you're right. Columbia hated "Timbre". They hated the banjo on "Lose Your Way" as the lead single. So they buried it, knowing that she'd spaced 5 years between albums and it would have limited success. The problem is that reviews stated her follow up to THAT was so pop that it would have been the album Columbia wanted. I'll agree: "Wilderness" WAS that album. She was just a little too defiant while being actually very able to create the material they were after, but did so after she'd been buried.

Magnificent song. Magnificent.
Sophie has this luminous beauty that just emanates through everything she does. There is an authenticity and depth to her that is so lacking in so many musicians today. Brilliant songwriter too and I love her visuals, especially in this video and the original video for Damn I wish I Was Your Lover. Raw, sensual, beautiful lighting and movement. True definition of an artist.

Exactly all this lousy and cheap-posers lifeless degrading bs music that one can't even call it now, there's nothing to take from the lyrics nor music in America's music today, just bunch of knock off cheap wannabe's. Thats why my friends and I look elsewhere like in KPOP and JPOP or ITALIAN POP they are where our real music was back in the day. You can relate to the songs, music lyrics, find yourself and dealing with life issues in their songs, heck even their MMD version....screw the cost of going to a gym, you can learn dance moves, new language and get exercise through MMD JPOP/KPOP Music, but you could never do that with the cheap trashy American music today, the youth of society have lost what it measn in music and humanity, respect and discipline as well.....just sad. My friends and I are so sick of it, many have found a better like in Canada, UK or elsewhere moved and relinquished their American citizenship, found financial stability outside of the U.S thats gone down hill with everything along with real music that once made sense and doesn't sound cheap or degrading, vulgar crap that makes punk a#/ kids act out in today's society or dress like sluts now its awful.

This woman never became larger than life, because she was true to her talent, beauty, wrote wholesome songs and kept a natural style. No gimmicks, no shock value elements, and no obscenities like most female singers that did make it large in the music industry for whoring themselves for all that crap! I rediscovered Sophie and at this moment I am looking for her CD and playing it to the universe! Love her music that has that haunting but danceable ballad element that works for her like a glove! Thank you Sophie B. Hawkins for all your music that you made. You are one of my most favourite music interpretes.
So Powerful song, timeless...
The most underrated artist of her time! This was an absolute tune! Sophie such a natural talent and beauty. It’s very rare to see that nowadays.
One of those rare songs your able to recognize within a fraction of a second of it starting.
I remember driving late into the Fort Lauderdale night as an early high school boy, confused, frustrated, lonely, sad and blaring this song, while crying and feeling a huge release of emotion. This entire album (actually the first three albums) are amazing works of art. Fans of Sophie will notice this video was where she started doing her little circle-pacing thing she still does during live shows. This song is one of her greatest songs, both lyrically and musically. The composition is simple, straightforward and wrought with emotion. Anytime I listen to this song, it fills me with emotions. Sophie B Hawkins, Roisin Murphy, Alison Goldfrapp, Jonna Lee and Karin Dreijer Andersson are some of the greatest artists of our time. Thank you for making this song, Sophie.

I can’t express how much Sophie B Hawkins’ music helped shape who I was going into adulthood and how i developed relationship goals. Now I know why she sang about them so passionately. The emotions expressed and the relationship goals sang about are crazy high expectations and mostly either unrequited or unattainable. Still a wonderful dream for the hopeless romantic.
