    Do you use the 180 degree shutter speed rule for your shutter speed? So if your for example shooting at 30fps, do you use 1/60th of a second? And does this camera follow the 180 rule when it has to auto pick a shutter speed?

    As a beginner I have a question about manual settings for video ( have a sony rx100 mark 5 )... on the last trip I did some videos in auto mode and the result was a disaster.. the trees I was filming looked just way to crispy and sharp ( probably due to a very high shutter speed,, was a very bright day.... now after some research I set it up like this ( shutter speed priority mode,, so it is locked (depending on fps) but the aperture is changing automatically ,,, 24 fps, shutter speed 1/50 ,, aperture auto,, ISO auto... but even when it gets to aperture 11f (max) it is still overexposed,, in the case like the drone I have, I would regulate this with ND filters,,, what can I do in this case??? isn t it better to keep just a locked shutter speed so the camera can regulate automatically the aperture for getting the right amount of light??? cause the light conditions are changing constantly...just when increasing the shutter speed to 1/200 the exposure is ok,, but then i have broken the rule of thumb (shutter speed 2x the fps ).. What actually happens when I turn the ND filter on on the camera??? please explain a bit how to keep the values and what to do when light conditions change,, thanks a lot in advance and sorry if some of the questions are stupid but I am just a beginner in manual settings for video))))

    I was just curious if the whole video was shot on the RX100 V, even the studio segments? I think the reason why the built-in LUTS are so strong is that they assume you are bringing in very flat washed-out footage. I noticed your starting footage has a fair amount of contrast already so that's why when you add it the look is so intense.

    Hey Ted, normally with consumer level connections. You upload should still be about 1/3rd of your download speed. So you should at least see 33Mb/s uploads. Business plans however should be equal. Mine here currently get 50 down and 55 up.. Now keep in mind I am on a dedicated fibre. If you are using your cable provider. You are sharing the bandwidth with everyone on that same line. So if you got 100 households all streaming their game play to twitch, its going to get low. Still, it should never be that low. Try turning off your modem for 30seconds and plugging it back up. Hopefully that restart may help. Take a screen shot and show that to you ISP and demand better.

  • @rythie
    @rythie7 жыл бұрын

    On a technical level on ADSL and VDSL (fibre broadband), the amount allocated to download/upload is static allocated e.g 95MBit down/5MBit up, could be configured at 50MBit down/50Mbit (i.e. symmetic) if that's the limit of the line. The limit of line is to do with how you are from the modem (typically down the street in the UK). Most users want faster download, than upload, also that is headline figure in marketing. Those that need fast upload are typically those running servers, which are typically businesses. Symmetric lines are typically are expensive, so ISP don't want to hurt that business. Another reason is some content be cached by the ISP in various ways, since many people download the same things. Uploads can't be cached. So downloads can cost the ISP less than uploads. Great video by the way!

    Hi Ted, dunno how much you know about how broadband works so I may be telling you stuff you already know here, but to answer your question about upstream vs downstream... Broadband (cable or DSL) uses a range (or broad band) of analog carrier frequencies to carry the digital data between the modem at your end and the one at the other end of the line. Available bandwidth is mainly determined by how high the top frequency is, which is itself determined by the technology in use and the quality of the line. Available bandwidth is then divided between upstream and downstream with upstream being capped and downstream using everything else. This means that a higher upstream requires downstream to be sacrificed, and most people want as much downstream as possible so upstream is usually lower. Since your downstream is OK, and assuming the speed test is correct, the result suggests there's something wrong with the upstream allocation in your line profile.

    Hi Ted! First of all, thank you for your great videos, they're always very clear and well done. I would like to ask you when do you think it is needed to film in 4K resolution? What's the main reason beyond of course the obvious higher resolution? I personally feel 4K is still too advanced (and takes a lot of space) considering where the majority of people watch the final result (laptop, tablets and mobile devices). The Sony RX100 V can record incredible videos at 1080, up to 120fps and at 100 Mbit/s, which is amazing. So why filming in 4K? - Genuine question :)

    Call your service provider and tell them that updload speeds are not what they should be. They will reset at the cable company the connection via your modem and or router. Quite often the upload speeds are not too much an issue with most people as they do mostly download. My download speed is 514 MBps while my upload speed is 23 MBps. Supposedly the new G5 system will allow GBps performance at both upload and download but......the health dangers have not been investigated. Ted, about upload speed - try to use different test servers. Some ISP block or use shaping for ingoing connections on their servers. Also try to download some big files (e.g. Ubuntu ISO image) in 3 threads (click download 3 times) and summorize your total download speed. If it's below your expectations - call your ISP and ask if they can provide you simmetrical chanel (same upload and download speed)

    Nice video! What camera and lens are you using in your studio at the beginning?

    ted, there are a lot of things that can get you lower speeds when it comes to internet connection. my office is just like yours, we get 100 down and 15 up. i was able to achieve this type of speed when the wireless internet connection was set to 5Ghz. i have no idea why but that's just how it was. also, i remember a few years ago i set up 100 down and 10 up at my house. i wasn't able to get 100 down until i upgraded my modem, so there is are few variables to test out here.

    I thought there would be more on the RX100 V settings but you quickly went into DaVinci Resolve. This video was pretty much a plug for this than the RX100 V.

    Unless you have some kind of fiber service, most typical cable internet connections will have a substantially lower upload speed than download. I recently upgraded from 100 to 200mbps service, and my upload speed only went up by about 5mbps. I would look into seeing if there are any fiber optic internet services available in your area, as that would provide you with much faster upload speeds.

    Granted you should be getting more than half a meg for your upload speed. It's typically around 5-10mbps upload for a 100mbps download service.

    I think this video should be titled, "My RX100 Rig and Workflow." I came here looking for RX100 camera settings for video and did not find them here..

    You forgot to mention that the biggest reason slog2 is difficult to use is because it defaults to 1600 ISO. Even with the built in ND filter its still too bright for day use.

    Those speedtest results (throughput) are likely a result of the Ookla testing engine being mis-configured on Spectrum's side; I ran into a similar issue provisioning an Ookla speedtest server some years back. Try testing to Speedtest.net to see what results you get. Overall speeds may show lower, but the long, dwindling upload test should clear up. Upload will always be lower (asynchronous), unless you pay specifically for a synchronous circuit/service. With cable plant, more of the available spectrum is allocated to downstream channels than upstream since most content is consumed by consumers, not served by them. Most providers offer a synchronous option for their business services, though you may pay dearly for it. Even Fiber-to-the-Home services will generally be asynchronous, even if higher overall (1000mbps/350mbps) unless paying for synchronous services. Best bet is look for the best value in asynch service, most should offer 15-30mbps throughput on the upstream with 100-300mbps downstream. It is unlikely you'll find yourself uploading at anywhere near those speeds anyways. Most content hosts (KZread, Vimeo, etc), won't have routes with the capacity from end-to-end (from you to them) for your full upload capability. Where you'll see merit is if you are uploading multiple large files to multiple destinations, to spread that data stream across several routes and endpoints, adding up to the cumulative limit the service provider has rate limited you to.

    Basically, they throttle speed to prevent congestion and improve reliability. There's activities which increase your chances of being throttled. Streaming, uploading large amounts of data and exceeding the fair use limits are a few of examples. It may be worth heavily compressing your files before uploading and using separate connections for downloading/streaming video etc. It's a pain in the bum but look on the bright side, your internet is a lot better than here in Australia! haha Great videos
