    I bought the RX10IV for an Africa safari trip. It never left my hand and got almost every shot! Even some night safari shots. I was so impressed that I recently bought a used Sony ZV-1. It's a fantastic street camera for fast photos and video. The ZV-1 was about half the price of the RX100VII (both used). The ZV-1 has a shorter focal length (24-70mm) but a way faster lens. With intelligent zoom, its reach extends to 140mm. I'd love to get the RX100VII, but I'm happy with my ZV-1 for half the price!😊

    I have the RX 10v4. I love it. My wife was recently going on a trip with some friends and didn’t feel like carrying her humongous Nikon and lenses. So she thought about getting one of the RX 100.V7. It was expensive and like my RX 100 there is a question about whether it will be supported. Or whether a new one is coming out fairly soon. Sony needs to pick a position. Either let us all know that these are not going to be upgraded(I really doubt the RX10 will be at this point.) but ultimately given the price of the RX 100 my wife made a completely different decision. For essentially the same amount of money, she upgraded her cell phone to the latest version. We traded in my old version, and I took over her slightly newer version when she got the new one. And that’s what she took on her trip, so like I said, Sony needs to let us know rather than leading us guessing so that we know whether to move on to something else, like a better cell phone, or even another brand. I for one not a seasoned or practiced enough photographer to invest in one of the Sony cameras required lenses.

    The RX100 VII is a stunning camera, I bought it second hand a few months ago, and I am blown away. The ZV1, which I also have for a few months more, has a bit better color processing out of the camera, the internal ND filter and a wider aperture, but otherwise the RX100 VII is better. Better mic, the viewfinder, better built. Better steady shot. Also, you should give a shot recording in SLog 2 with ITU 709 Matrix colors. It looks stunning! Mostly I record FHD 60 fps because 4k 30 fps with high shutter speeds looks a bit off... What would be possible with an RX 100 VIII with 2024 technology! 10 bit 4k 60fps, even better mics, it would be wonderful.

    I love my Rx100m7, and I get great photos just from the auto mode. I do feel the Rx line is being replaced by the zv line of vlogging cameras which dont interest me. With Sony borrowing tech from the alpha line for their phones, i thought they would have done the same with the Rx line, keeping it sat just behind the more pro range of kit. With improvements in focus speeds, image quality, eye tracking, and the more recent body tracking, the Rx line definitely needs an update to cater to amateur photographers like myself looking for that pro quality.

    I just want RX100 sensor size combined with the HX99 zoom lens. (I've always been unimpressed by the RX100's zoom range coming from the HX series) - 4K video recording, with no stupid time limits (or overheating).. proper sdxc card support of any size.. better low light processing. Microphone input. How hard can it be..? My iPhone 14 pro max can record 4K60 HDR for hours without breaking a sweat.. but nothing _should_ beat a good zoom lens and large sensor. Surely there's enough space in the RX100 form factor in something dedicated to photography/video, to beat a phone that has so much less physical volume to work with? Would also be good to have the tripod mount further away from the battery door, to make using accessories not necessarily block quick battery swaps (I'd quite like to jig up an FDR-X1000V on the left side of the cam to cover a 4K wide angle shot while tight zooming) I like to record long form events, and I can't bring something larger like an RX10/HX400 into those places. I just need something pocket sized.. but with good zoom range and something worth the investment as a dedicated device over a phone. Currently I use HX99/RX100/iPhone.. and I only recently upgraded from oldskool HX30V (happy shooting 1080p60 for 6 hours with battery swaps) for the HX slot. Cheers

    Thanks for another great video! I've had the original RX10 since 2015 and I also bought the RX100V shortly after it was released (I had an RX100III before that). Both have accompanied me to Ireland and Italy and they are both great cameras! I purchased an RX10II but returned it because the power zoom made too much noise when recording sound videos. We're headed to the UK this May and both my trusty RX10 and its little brother, the RX100V, will be with me. Great cameras but I would love to see updates to both, especially the RX10VII. An RX10VIII might well be worth upgrading from my RX10, especially if it had built-in ND filters, which both the RX10 and RX100V have.

    My biggest concern with the smaller device is the Lens Shutter on the outside of the lens when it opens up upon start and closing. These shutters tend to jam with dust and sand particles and makes the camera inoperative. I would either go with the Sony high end phone or the RX10-Mk4 in this case. Love the compactness of the RX100 series but they should have made it into a M4/3 sensor with a tiny lens.

    Based on video representations I find Canon's colors to be more true to nature. The Sony colors always seem to be darker. I really hope that Canon hasn't dumped the G7X Mark II; I would prefer it over the Mark III. Actually, I wish the G1X Mark III with it's larger sensor was still in production. However, I did appreciate the video. It was very informative. If I did wind up getting the Sony it would be the RX100 III for the larger aperture. 😊

    There will never be a mark 8. Smartphones have killed the compact camera market. One feature which I think is unique to the RX100vii is you can shoot HD video and JPG stills at the same time. Great when travelling and can’t decide which to take of an event. As the video rolls, still take full resolution still images, although they then are in 16:9 format. I have used this facility a few times and it is great. I don’t know why none of the Alpha cameras have this ability?

    I want a very small camera with a viewfinder and a good zoom lens. I mostly do outdoor photography and want something small and light. I would have already bought the RX100 VII, but I hate to spend that kind of money on 2019 technology, even though the camera is still very good. But if they truly aren't going to update it, maybe I should take the risk. After all, the VII is more than good enough for what I do, and it is the smallest enthusiast camera out there. But come on Sony, how about an update for this $1300 camera?! Keep the form factor the same, but update the menus and the electronics. You have all the technology already available, how hard could it be? Then it could continue to dominate this market for another 5 years or more.

    How would you compare this to the Tamron 28-200 (when used on a high res body like A1/A6700/etc) in terms of maximum resolution at the telephoto end? (utilizing clear image zoom, photo or video mode). I assume the RX100VII can't compete with this combo even in good light? Putting the Tamron 28-200 on an A6700/FX30 etc gives you 300mm equiv., and if you turn on active stab + CIZ, it becomes about 500mm equiv, so do you think this kind of combination can actually match even the RX10IV at full telephoto?

  • @techtoremember8096

    @techtoremember8096

    Ай бұрын

    As good as Sony's clear image zoom is you are right, it will be very hard to compete against a full frame setup with a dedicated lens. I have the Tamron lens you are referring to is very sharp across the range. In the second part of your question regarding the RX10IV, since you have to go into CIZ on the 6700 /FX30 or whichever camera you use, they cannot match the RX10IV because the RX is using optical zoom which will always beat a clear image zoom. Plus even at 500mm in that set up, the RX has a higher zoom and is a much lighter more compact system as well!!

    @@techtoremember8096 thanks for the reply! You make an interesting point, although I’ve noticed that sharper lenses on full frame setups often outperform technically superior optical zooms on other cameras… Even the P950, which I owned briefly. But perhaps the RX10IV is different because of its stellar lens and optimized sensor! I ordered an RX10IV and AX53 that I will be comparing to my various full frame/apsc/m43 setups

    Thanks! There were some processor functions (slightly better AF etc) but the most important difference was the way the viewfinder is engaged. With the 7, you just hit the side button and it pops up and is ready to use. In prior models, you had to hit the side button and then pull out the actual little VF screen which was a pain!! This really speeds things up and I think was the biggest improvement. Lens is basically unchanged from the Mark 6 as well as the zoom the same.

    Hello there. The RX100 V A ( a more updated version of the V) lens is a bit faster at f 2.8 however the zoom only goes to 70mm equivalent as opposed to 200mm. So this may be a better option.The smaller sensor cameras like these however aren't the best for lowlight so if you could get a larger sensor like a micro 4/3 or Aps-c you will get better results due to the larger sensors light gathering..!

    When I go on holiday, I take lots of photos. Yes, I have used my smartphone, but it kills the battery. The smartphone photography is limited. Especially, if someone like me is a heavy user. I don't want to lug a heavy camera with interchangeable lenses. I want a compact camera, where I change essential setting such as EV, ISO ..... I don't to waste time going into menu settings. Imagine it is New Years Eve ball, do I want to take an SLR camera with me? If I need to go to the bathroom, am I going to lug that with me and the camera bag into the toilet, because it is so expensive and I don't want it to be lost / stolen. I want a small camera, which I can put in my pocket. The 4K video - 5minute limitation sucks. It is such as expensive camera and this is big limitation. Imagine going on a mountain road with amazing scenery. Why do I need to buy a GoPro to take that footage?. Why can't the RX100 camera be used as a action / dash cam?. Sony also does 'funny' things to the colour, which is why I have not bought it. If means, I have to spend silly money on a subscription to software to adjust the colours, which should have been correct in the first place. Sony have release camera for vloggers, but not everyone is KZread. Fuji have launches the X100V, so there is demand for compact camera. Of course that is a fixed lens.
