Brauner sounds fantastic. Was looking for reviews on PCM D100 which I own and love.

My guess: 1. Sony PCM D-100, 2. Rode NT-USB, 3. Brauner RichBich 1. really nice sound, low noise and in over all sound feeling really close to the others 2. I own this mic and yes, for spoken word really nice, but a bit noisy and that's why this is my tip 2. its a little bit more noisy then the others. 3. the brauner has a warm sound and very clear with nice depth was listen to your video with audio technica mt50x headphones which shows me sometimes a bit too much when something is noisy... thanks for the good and entertaining comparrison. keep it going

Fuck yes I was right! I only own the PCM D100 which sounds the thinnest and analytical sounding in comparison here but actually it is warm and very realistic sounding compared to some of the other handheld recorders like the Zoom H6. The 2nd one kind of amazed me. Nice balance between full bodied smooth and analytical. Really impressive. The expensive one didn't impress me. Sounds like it has EQ boost at the bottom frequencies, but at the same time less digital sounding than the USB Mic.

Nice guess. 1. I agree with you about warmth and realism of PCM D100. Totally hi-end device. Contrary to Zoom stuff which is tailored towards videographers, who think of mics as lenses and believe a mic can ignore or "not hear" something that's out of it's "frame". Also boost in highs gives an impression of better quality over cameras built-in mics. Which is not always truth. 2. Rode NT-USB is great on spoken word. Not always on singers. Never tried it on instruments or similar. But as you said - it has a nice balance between all those things. 3. Again in this comparison Brauner sounds kind of dull. And I guess it is less digital either because of RME ADs or less exaggerated highs. Or both. Or its price. Not too awesome on voice-overs, but I think it could shine on really bright and nasal female voices as well as instruments that tend to have annoying frequencies if miked close or using bad technique. Also I believe that one could find a much cheaper thing that would shine as much as Brauner but for 1/5 of a price. Thanks for your guess and comment! Happy New Year!

Thank you for the upload quit useful , im thinking about the Sony PCM-D100 i guess it's practically and flexible for some situations in my channel i use 2 mics one for my guitar and one for the voice so i have more possibility to edit my audio perfectly as i want so do you think the PCM-D100 can handle my case i mean guitar and vocal?

Hi, thanks for watching. I checked out some of your latest uploads and in your situation I wouldn't change a thing and forget the Sony. But if you're really want to refresh your gear, I'd probably suggest to look at the newer Sony PCM D10, or something from Zoom's headliners. You most certainly will benefit from the XLR inputs in my opinion.

Nice review! Thanks for that! I would like to know if the optical line out gives the signal out while mics are actve (lets say record ready)? So my question is if i could use the mic of the D-100 and record the signal through the line out into my Studio recording system?

Thanks! That is a tough question, since I don't own the PCM-D100 anymore. Under this link you'll find my research on ADAT cable length where PCM-D100 was used. www.tomasdabas.eu/reviews/does-adat-cable-length-matter/ In the intro I mention that I used Sony as a talk-back mic. I THINK, I recall using my PCM-D100 as a talk-back mic for quite a while. Sooooo, I guess my answer to your question would be YES, you can use Sony's internal mics, whilst transferring the data trough the optical out into optical input of your audio interface.

  • @tomasdabasinskas8977

It sure can, but will serve not simply as a "microphone", but as an audio interface WITH a mic. PCM-D100 would be a tremendous overkill for a PC mic though.
