Hello again. I successfully installed the chip today, and just like yours, region changing for Bluray is done automatically! For a few minutes I wasn’t sure if I could pull this off as I thought it was beyond my current skill level, but I did it. The small points on the Bluray board are pretty small and require just a tiny amount of solder. Watching your video gave me the confidence to try this! Thank you again, my friend! 👍🏻😀

Just bought one of these players in mint condition for £9gbp from eBay so the cost of the mod is well within the total for a new player. Looks very easy to do, only 6 wires. I briefly noticed on their site there is a ribbon connector for an extra €3. It will cut down on the number of wires you need to solder and it's even neater.

I purchased this model a few years ago from a UK dealer who specialises in Multiregion machines. The players are supplied with an ICOS update (What ever that really is) and from my correspondences with the people who work there to obtain new firmware updates for the mpeg pcb I have been told that the firmware also needs the MPEG board to be modified, however on opening the machine I could not see any visual changes or additional input to the hardware mpeg pcb. Therefore the changes to the MPEG board are much more subtle than what is done in this video. Changing Blu-ray zone can also be done while the machine is on with the ICOS machine, however with no disc running, unlike this mod that requires the machine to be in standby.

Thanks a lot for your detailed insight . Whatever works for you is great . The modifications here arent too complicated anyways and require basic soldering skills. And shud you need it , its reversible. Just flash your device with the firmware file that is downloaded from Sony site.

@@talwarjatin Presumably you carnt install the official Sony firmware once you have installed the custom one as the version numbers are the same. The one that normally supports the modifications has an adjustment to the version number increment to fool the player into accepting the new one. If a new official update was released, which I don't think would now occur for a 2016 model then that would be able to install, however to be honest the multi region player is a more attractive option for us.

@@Robert_Manners No the numbers of firmware arent same . They are different to let the player recognize the flash firmware as a different one. This has been verified by the instructions manual .' U can always go back. Regarding muyltiregion player, the Region A player costed me 75 $ from the US. in India the same model with multi-region capability was available for 22 K INR , which came out to be 300 $ at that time. Choice is our own. I wish I would have done this mod some years back during the active years of this player. Thanks

I think they were around 6-7" inches each. Though it wasn't specified in the instructions. This wire was supplied in the mod kit as a small roll.

@@talwarjatin Yes I appreciate it was not specifically noted in the the instructions. As you have done the hardware mod I thought I would ask for that bit of extra insight as I have ordered the kit. Its an odd one, after I got the original ICOS machine I had a look inside to see if there was anything that stood out as a custom hardware modification however everything looked like it was when manufacture shipped so I assumed that the custom firmware was enough to achieve the additional functionality. Anyway in 2019 when the new firmware was released I obtained it from the people who supplied me with the ICOS machine, and having recently purchased a standard new Sony BDP-S3700 that I installed this custom firmware on, however the ability to switch region didn't work. I contacted the company and they informed me that the machine that they supplied did come with a modified mpeg pcb, however they did not want to explain what they actually did to the machine. What ever they do is clearly more subtle and compact than this mod is. Anyway I thought I would have a go at sourcing this kit as it should be a viable option to make the standard retail machine multi region.

If yours isn't region free, try this one out . Mine was also bought from Amazon US but it was clearly mentioned "Region A", cant blame them . All the best .

Yes I am sure if you are able to find the model of your Region C player on rattlebyte.com website. As I said in the video , you need to have the hardware to flash the firmware as well as the new firmware . I could see 4 models of Philips hardware available on their website : BDP2501, BDP2985 , BDP3406M2 , BDP7750 . See if your model is one of these . If it is , you can get it from them and install as shown .Happy modding ....all the very best !! Do let me know about the result . Thanks for replying ,.

hello, is it possible to do this mod for playstation 3?

Hello! The included manual tells to first flash the cutom fimware from USB, by putting the player into StandBy and the typing a sequence on the remote (opton, menu, green, yellow, yellow) This doesn'T work for me, but the module is soldered perfectly, I have checked a dozen times. Then I enter the given key sequence using the remote, the player is switched on by the module when typing the yellow key the first time ... and it doesn't even try to read the firmware from USB. When I instead try flashing the firmware using the players's software update function, then the players just says "File corrupt" (which is not reu, as I downloaded and wrote the file multiple files to differnet USB drives). This tells that the player is not unlocked as it won't take the custom firmwarre. but the module still responds by flashign the LED when entering sequencey on the remote control, and also by witchin the player on .. Is the module broken? Or is there an alternate way to flash the custom firmware initially using the sd card slot on the module itsefl?

Just forget the remote conrtol button codes. Try the way I have done by selecting the USB drive and then starting an update process from there.

@@talwarjatin I have an X1100, so I soldered C, D, G and 3v3 instead, as said in the manual. A, B, F, and GND are plugged in using the connector on the X1100's mainboard. When I try updating the firmware through the player's own menu (like you did), it tells me 'The file is corrupt'. I tried two USB drives and downloaded the custom firmware file multiple times from the link that Rattlebyte provided. The LED on the Rattlebyte is flashing tow times when powering up the player, and also when there's an input from the remote. Also the Rattlebyte can swicth on the player when rpessing the YELLOW button on the remote. So I can be sure thats it's connected right (because otherwise it either wouldn't have power or it would not react to the remote, or it wouldn't be able to powr the player up)

@@elmariachi5133 Seems to be some software hardware mismatch . Have u got the correct board as per your player's model . The software they provide is as per your model ordered only . They are not interchangeable with other models . Check that and u can contact them as well . All the best

@@talwarjatin Yes, I though it could be a corrupt firmware image on the module or the wring image on the module, too. But how can I know what it is.. from all the images I saw online, the module always is looking the same, for each supprted player. I already contacted support and hope there's an easy solution, may be an update using the sd reader on the module. Thank you! :)

Not at all . There is nothing to do with the quality of video. It just decodes a coded value , that's all .
