I have several GM lens but also love this little gem of a lens in my kit. Thanks for the love you are giving it, so others will know too.

When I came across your channel I was impressed with the results you were getting from various lenses you were reviewing. But now I realise you're just an amazing photographer and whatever lens you put on your camera you make great photos with (as we all should be striving for).

Thanks for sharing your experience with this “budget” sony lens - I purchased it with the Sony 85 1.8 when I bought my first new full frame sony, the A7rii. I still use it on my A7s for astrophotography, it’s a great little lens and a keeper. Cost is $449 US, I bought it for $425 when on sale.

It doesn’t have a weather sealing gasket between the lens and the body but I do know that the lens is moisture and dust resistant. I have it too and I love it.

Actually just picked up this lens for my upcoming vacation for how light and portable it is. Compared to my go to 24-104 F4 lens, it's a dream lens to carry around for travel/landscape photography.

The Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 for portraits and the Sony FE 28 f/2 for travel photography are the best value for money Sony FE lenses. Very sharp, bright and not expensive full frame lenses.

Thanks Chris - I'm not a Sony shooter and Im going to buy a A7C so wanted a compact versatile lens for it. This seems to fit the bill. Although I will be using it for video - Im hoping the distortion isn't noticable

I love this lens and use it on an A7R iv. The APS C mode lets me use it as a 42mm lens too. Just a fantastic tack sharp lens. It's so versatile on an A7R iv due to its cropping ability from a 60mp image.

Love it and couldn’t agree more! When 24 feels a bit too wide and 35 too short the 28 seems to hit a certain sweet spot imho. It’s just an enjoyable lens to use. And for the price!? I got this and the 55 for less than the 35mm 1.4 ;P

Great review man..I'm considering this lens for my trip to Japan in a couple of weeks...I've initially ordered the 24mm GM but that thing is out of stock every where and Amazon seems like it's not shipping it until the end of June so I need an alternative solution for a wide angle street photography lens...this video definitely helped me decide on getting the 28mm ..my only concern is the sharpness of this lens but I might still get it...

I crashed my drone at this waterfall not to long ago. This video brought back all the tears 😭

Would you recommend this lens for video? I just switched from canon and had a 28mm which I loved. I mainly do video, does this have auto focus

It’s a great street photography lens with the a7C. 28mm’s is my favorite focal length. I have the 35mm f1.4 but it’s a bit too big for what I like. Perhaps Sony will have either a mark II or a GM version soon. Nice review 👍

About to get one of these bad boys for $270 gently used. Always love watching your videos before dropping money on new gear. Great videos my guy.

How quick is the AF when paired up with the A7II? This set up would be replacing my Contact G2 + 28mm. Would the AF be as fast?

Sometimes I don’t want to take the 24mm GM and wished I still had mine. Cheaper, lighter, faster and wider than the Zeiss 35mm f2.8, easier to balance on a gimbal. Yup, need to pick this lens up again. Congrats on 7k subscribers, Chris!

I just purchased the Sony a7ii and I have been keen to find a good and affordable 28mm lens for landscape and possible portraits! This video definately gave me more confidence to buy this Sony 28mm f2 lense. ☺️

Since it’s not weather sealed does it mean that it may malfunction in extreme cold or hot conditions? Pls advise. Thx

The first lens I bought with my A6400.

@6:27 I don't think one or the other (with or without polarizer) is better. There are certain elements I like the rendering of in each shot (filtered/unfiltered). I think it would be a good idea to blend the preferred elements of each image into a final composition - and get the best of both worlds, so to speak.

How does it compare to the sony 35mm 1.8 apsc lens. Ive been using the 35mm 1.8 apsc on my a7iii and although its a crop lens the 4k video from it is amazing. I wounder if i sould sell my 35mm and grab the 28mm any thoughts or opinions

Well I mean it’ll be totally different. Because on your camera the 35 is more like a 50, and 50 2.8 (in terms of angle and depth of field) vs 28mm f2 is totally different.

Sony should really make a 35mm brother to this one F2 or F1.8 would be awesome. And keep it cheap as this one

@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer I'd seriously be having a panic attack if they made a 35mm f/2 pancake. My perfect going-out-to-dinner-lens in my Canon days has been their 40mm f/2.8 pancake. It's face-smackingly sharp, super lightweight, and super fast to focus. Having one of similar dimensions in Sony land, but a bit faster would be awesome. I'd love a Sony equivalent.

It dropped to $450 on BH Photo now so the question is if you want to use a lens like this for Vlogging then would you choose this one or the Zeiss Battis 25mm F2? I'm ok with getting a Battis used if it's much better than the Sony 28mm. Thoughts?

I love the Batis. I had it for ages. I think it’s to close in price to the 24mm GM though. And it has real bad CA, not that it really matters but yeah. Great lens anyway

It’s actually sitting on my desk right now haha they gave it to me to review also (on loan) it’s a lens I’ve always looked at buying but just can’t get my head around the 2.8 stupidly. But honestly it’s pretty awesome, super sharp and has a nice look to it

Chris Turner I got it because I wanted a small walk around lens that wasn’t too noticeable in public. I’ve taken to cityscape shots I do at night but I don’t recommend it for that genrè

What filter are you using I am a beginning landscape photographer and I am realizing how important the ND filter really is

Chris Turner Photographer maybe it’s just me but I have a hard time making flowy water during the day time/evening. I feel like it needs to be after sunset for myself. What should I use on my lense to fix the issue because my shots turn whjte

So here’s the math. In NZ it’s 709 including 15% tax. Converted to USD, it’s 462.50 including that 15% tax. Without tax (to properly compare to Amazon), it sits right at $400 USD. In the States, the lens sells on amazon for 450 USD plus tax, whatever that may be. So somehow it actually works out cheaper to buy it in NZ, as long as shipping isn’t involved.

@@ChrisTurnerPhotographer I am in the same boat, I have the Tamron 28-75, Sony 85 1.8 and Sony 50 1.8, but I am going on vacation in a few weeks and really want to get this lens, mainly for all reasons you have listed, size, cost, F2, focusing. I don't really love the Sony 50 1.8 and may return that to fund my purchase. I love you channel, great work!

Put this lens on a Sony a7c and you have a rival to the Leica Q.

I bought it from ebay for like 200$

The lens is now selling at $448.
