Fun Fact: Knuckles was actually supposed to be an actual playable character thanks to Sonic & Knuckles' Lock-On technology, but because of color palette problems, that version was never released.

If you want to get the chaos emeralds ASAP, you need to not take damage in Green Hill, Marble and Spring Yard zone, that way when you finish the level you have 50 to more rings

Beat the game, or take the easy way out, go into level select and press 19910623 in order, final zone > debug > capsule > press the button and release the animals, now you have the level select when you beat the game, turn into super sonic with an s monitor, I recommend about 12, beat final zone again but with the normal method, watch the cutscene and now you have knuckles

There's an option for opacity in the control settings, either that or he's using bluetooth

Actually, to unlock tails, you can do whatever ending, but if you want to unlock knuckles then get the chaos emeralds
