Kurt never lived under the bridge, but metaphorically it demonstrates the worst and most depressing times of his life. The bridge acts as a landmark of the disgust he had for that town. Whether it’s taken down or not, would Kurt have really cared? The town are probably sick of people loitering down there but either way there are many more upbeat ‘Kurt locations’ around the Northwest for mega fans to visit. His first tiny house in Aberdeen was demolished over 14 years ago, and his LA rental is most likely going to succumb to the same fate. Kurt died a long time ago, and if his friends/family want the bridge to remain i’m sure something will be done. My personal stance on the matter is it’s important not to dwell on his death. Suicide is just too dark to think about for too long, and especially in Kurt’s case if you think about it for so long you’ll drive yourself crazy. His last note was as cryptic as he was and I think the majority will agree that we never will get a straight answer. Either way we miss him, but i’d rather have Kurt here than some depressing bridge. The poor man died thinking he was nothing more than a selfish junkie so much that he just couldn’t go on. It’s a brutal ending for such a beautiful soul, so let’s just keep the good memories. Rest in power Kurt

Pretty certain that at least according to Kurt he spent at least a night or two camped out under that bridge. Unless you knew him personally and he told you otherwise how can you know he didn’t? And even if he didn’t it has become immortalised by something in the way and the way it has attracted so many fans since. Brings more people to Aberdeen than any other attraction.

@@violetscreaming at least do some research and read a little before commenting something like this. it’s common knowledge that kurt never slept under that bridge. Not only has this been backed up by his family, friends and biography but it’s also documented that he would sleep in grays harbour hospital waiting room, the public library and sofa surf and sometimes on the front porch of friends. So why endanger himself by sleeping under a muddy, dank bridge and risk drowning in his sleep by the rising tide when there’s plenty more safe options lmfao. Kurt, like many other artists would make stuff up to journalists to fluff up their success story and make it more interesting. Yeah, he may have hung out there and smoked some pot under it when he was a kid, but never slept there.

@@yankeecandleluvr and again, did he ever tell you that personally. If this were a court there would be a lawyer yelling “heresay” right about now. Now this is just your opinion, something you are entitled to, I just don’t see it as fact. Even if your theory is true, the story has been immortalised by Kurt and the song and it has a very important place in the hearts of NIRVANA fans worldwide.

It's ironic to me that the town Kurt absolutely hated and wanted to escape makes "memorials" and tourist destinations in his name. To make money. It is what it is.

If they hadn’t have done anything to memorialise him there would be uproar, people wouldn’t have it and just like in Seattle by his house they’d do their own thing like the bench is now a fan-made memorial spot so people can leave gifts for him. But i get the ideology in terms of that particular location, in the respect of the people who live in the Lake Washington home now, it wouldn’t be fair to put some huge memorial that would attract thousands of people every year. Though, I guess you could argue they knew what they were getting into when they bought it.

Empathy. You don't have to live underneath a bridge to empathize with what its like to live under a bridge. He put himself in their shoes. While being self aware that he wouldn't be able to kill any of the animals he trapped.

Wether Kurt did or didn't sleep under the bridge in on the point the point is it is A place people go to to remember to pay respect to one of rock music's great icons even to this day he is still making new fans and bands still cover Nirvana songs I say keep the bridge to many places like this just get torn down really even graveyards get forgotten me and my friend found one once didn't look like anyone had been there in hundreds of years maybe longer thing is if we forget and tare down are past or just leave it to rot who remembers the place in A hundred year it just fades into ladgend A place forgotten I think we destroy to many memorys give people this one why not because someday we with all be the plast
