So I've been in his childhood home, and it hasn't been updated at all since the late 80s and is still owned by his mom. I just went to see the outside of it but his uncle was there taking care of it and he took me on a tour and told me old stories of Kurt as a kid. Being a dad of a young boy now, those stories really got to me and reminded me that he was just a fucking dude like anyone else. That house had energy, had a power to it ... and right down the street basically next door is the infamous bridge that he used to hang out under. Yeah, it was one of the most incredibly odd days of my life, and it's something I'll always remember.

My friends lived there in the early 70's, the house belonged to Philip Ahn, a popular Korean actor. The windows you are talking about are one large room, The kitchen had a red leather vintage crescent shaped booth and red formica table. There was a very large, heavy library table in the living room by the stairs. Many beautiful memories listening to lilting music from the Bowl. The elevator didn't always work, imagine carrying groceries. One neighbor was Adriana Caselotti, the voice of Snow White, we would visit with her.

Philip Ahn! Yeah, he was “Master Khan” in “Kung Fu”!! I loved that program as a kid in the 70’s. One of the greatest TV series ever! Wow, didn’t know Kurt Cobain lived in Master Khan’s old gaff! You learn something new every day. And I’ve got quite a few hip hop and House tunes that sample Adriana Caselotti singing “Whistle While You Work”. Maybe I should dig them out and do a MegaMix!

@@map3384 you can’t tell Russ that he’s wrong, and then ignore his point (the music) and tell him to listen to the words (something Russ didn’t even mention). Words are not music, they’re something added as an afterthought, once the music is complete. Kurt’s “words” were nonsensical various lines of poetry, that were jammed together from different poems he wrote. Absolutely none of his songs make any sense from a “listen to the words” standpoint. The music, as Russ said, is just a derivative of prior pop music. Kurt, himself, called his music pop music, even going as far as saying that Smells Like Teen Spirit was a ripoff of Louie Louie. Their songs are very basic, verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-end formats, written around mainly 5ths (power chords), in 4/4 (the entire format of a pop song).

The state of that house is depressing, it might never get fixed up back there (particularly when it’s still valued a 2.5 million 🙃). I recently worked at another well known artists current studio back that way and saw the tower. It’s a really vibey nook. Had no idea Kurt ever lived there. LA is full of these hidden houses with history.

This is why I thank Tracy bc she allowed kurt to stay home and not go to work and it gave him so much free time to create music.. RIP Kurt you are a legend and we all miss you

The overlapping of photos really brought the place to life again. Kurt touched so many people through his art/music...very much wish he was still around. I understand the bath in the house was used for the CD disc art for In Utero with a model sitting with legs hanging over the side. I have discovered both you and Scott through this.
