I use to do that in old houses in Detroit whenever I got the chance. Was once in Battle Creek and got to go through an old Kellogg house. Cost would be high, the location makes it hard to bring in the raw materials and machinery. Plus, restoration that is historically accurate will be a lot. Finally, quake reinforcement, permits, inspections, etc- at least a million, making the place cost $15000 a month mortgage. Not high for LA but hard to get to and your friends would never come visit. The most effective method to tear down and rebuild may be to helicopter the demolished debris down and then helicopter the new building materials up. That will cost insane money, though. @@jongibson2205 well for starters, the Hollywood Bowl bandshell wasn't built until 1926, although the property was an arts venue as far back as 1916. Kurt's home was built 1921. So there was better access for building it back then. The house also had a one car garage but way down below. So actually, whoever approved the building of the concert parking lot f'd up I would say, as it cut off access for a drivable approach for major construction access and GL, what about fire emergency access for those houses? Thanks for the comment. Pertaining to the house's historical standing, I think if it had made the cut, the new owner wouldn't be able to tear it down. Not that I completely blame them, the place is a termite infested mess.

Thanks for going back there for an update. I saw the previous video of the place. Aside from the rough condition of it, it’s amazing the inaccessibility from a logistics standpoint. Can’t imagine getting that fridge up in there and all the furniture 🪑

There is an elevator but its still a good 500 feet away. I'm guessing the reason it hasn't been torn down yet is they're having trouble finding a contractor that's willing to do it.
Very good video. One other I watched, (yours showed up while I was watching it) was more extensive on the how to get there than the actual inside of the home. So thank you, big dining rooms are a big like of mine!

In Utero is a term that means "in the womb" or "in the uterus". Utero is pronounced with a "Y" sound, just like "Uterus" is pronounced beginning with a "Y" sound. It's not some funny word that Nirvana made up and that needs to be pronounced weird like "ooter-o".

Yes- restoration really makes no sense. I would have been afraid to break into the balcony. You can see the Asian influence on the gate and the railing of the balcony.

@Lori Spencer When I was there I talked to the neighbor and he expressed that the current owner is having real trouble getting a contractor to take the job, as it involves another level of nightmare because there are no roads up there, so I think there still might be a small chance that they restore instead of bulldoze.

Hold a bake sale and let's get that place refurbished.
I saw where it had sold for $1M+ and was hopeful it would undergo major renovations. Sad to see it like this.

It looks like a magical place to stay. shame they have no respect for history
I know the costs to make it livable would be massive now, but if someone had kept it up and did the right thing it wouldn't have gotten so bad. Any guesstimate on what it would have cost to make it right? Just curious. Thanks!
@aisle_of_view
9 ай бұрын
Cost would be high, the location makes it hard to bring in the raw materials and machinery. Plus, restoration that is historically accurate will be a lot. Finally, quake reinforcement, permits, inspections, etc- at least a million, making the place cost $15000 a month mortgage. Not high for LA but hard to get to and your friends would never come visit. Maybe that's good. Patty Schemel lived there, she could charge for house tours.

The most effective method to tear down and rebuild may be to helicopter the demolished debris down and then helicopter the new building materials up. That will cost insane money, though. Especially if the bulldozer must be helicoptered up. Of even more interest would be to learn exactly how the house was built a century ago without anything even close to today's technology.

@@jongibson2205 Good point about how did they do it a century ago.
@synchronicity1470
12 сағат бұрын
@@jongibson2205 well for starters, the Hollywood Bowl bandshell wasn't built until 1926, although the property was an arts venue as far back as 1916. Kurt's home was built 1921. So there was better access for building it back then. The house also had a one car garage but way down below. So actually, whoever approved the building of the concert parking lot f'd up I would say, as it cut off access for a drivable approach for major construction access and GL, what about fire emergency access for those houses? A great shame to see this house go. There was SO MUCH more to Kurt Cobain than people realize.
