So, so true about how people back in the day would keep their super secret recipe away from everyone! Fast forward only to realize the vast majority of builders were all using the same old "tricks"! Now, with FB groups, it is amazing how people you have not and may never meet, freely offer up what they know. Of course it is expected to be quid pro quo. I think it is just a matter of there is too much to know and often not enough familiarity with a given unit. Back when I started, if you could build a a TF6/8, C4-6, 350/400 you were doing 95% of what was coming in the door AND parts overwhelmingly interchanged! Now, you might have a significant yet undocumented change that happens midyear only to be replaced 4 months later. And now you better be familiar with multiple systems on cars. This isn't your fathers transmission shop anymore, to modify a common refrain!

Just to add:: On a e4od/4r100 transmission,,when you disassemble the pump and see what looks like little brown pebbles stuck in the pump half,,,that is converter clutch lining

I have seen teeth damaged like that, usually from misfiring engine causing crankshaft decelerations
