Solving Algebraic Equations Containing Fractions (Deal with Fractions)
Prior to solving algebraic equations that contain fractions, you need to be quite familiar with fractions and operations on fractions (simplify, multiply, divide, add, and subtract), as well as combining like terms and solving algebraic equations that do not contain fractions. In the video, I solve ten equations that have a variety of fractions arranged in different ways. None of these involve parentheses.

3 + 3 is 6.... You said to get the denominator and the numorator, and the denominator is the same, keep it the same. Then add the numorators and its basically 3+3, and you put 5 XDD Lol, still a good vid tho :))

Thanks so much for your comment, but if you are talking about problem #1, on the right hand side (working vertically) you add the numerators, 2 and 3, giving you a 5, which is over the 7. The + 3/7 and + 3/7 is me writing the same thing on each side of the equal sign. I hope this helps.

Hi MrB4math. In question 5 at 4:26 minus4/5 X 3/1 = minus12/5 not +12/5 correct?
@MrB4math
6 жыл бұрын
What you write is correct, but in problem 5, you have: minus4/5 X (minus)3/1 = (positive)12/5. (Notice the light green "negative" or "minus" as you prefer.) Thanks for being specific with your question. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. You wrote the 3 on top of the minus sign which made it look like 3/1 instead of _3/1,which confused me. Also you said "multiply straight across" not negative 4 multiplied by negative 3. I would've wrote the 3 on top of the 6 to avoid confusing the minus sign with the divided by sign. But thanks for the clarification.

Wait sir, isn't the answer for 6:12 meant to be x=-35/12 ?
@MrB4math
Жыл бұрын
Well 5 times 7 is certainly 35, but if you do not simplify before multiplying, you get a denominator of 25. Negative 35/25 simplifies to negative 7/5. I hope this helps.

@@MrB4math Why can't you turn -3 to a fraction as well?(-3/1)Then times it with 4/7 which gives -12/7. Is it the wrong method?

I subtracted 1/4 from both sides of the equation. (I did a similar example of this starting at 40 seconds.) The -3x is from combining 7x and -10x. I wrote the -3 as -3/1 because I have a fraction on the other side of the equation. Usually when I have fractions, I want all fractions, to make calculations less difficult. I hope this helps, Mr. B

For number 7, how did you get 7/7?
@MrB4math
4 жыл бұрын
In front of the k there is a 1, the 1 can be written as 7/7, since 7 divided by 7 is 1. If fractions are causing much confusion, you might want to check out some of my introduction to fraction videos. Best regards, Mr. B

The 6/7 is the coefficient (the number in front of the variable). To divide, we multiply by the reciprocal which is 7/6.
