SOLO WINTER CAMP - Shelter, Long Fire, Axe, Bushcraft, Canvas Backpack
Ойын-сауық
Join me on a solo winter camp where I make a shelter with a tarp, use bushcraft to build a long fire with my axe, and spend the night alone in the woods. I hike in with my traditional canvas backpack which is full of my solo camping gear. I take a tarp for shelter, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, axe, bushcraft knife, billy can, tinder pouch, camp food, lantern, and general gear for a winter overnight in the UK. Thanks for joining me on the adventure! - Mike

I live in a big busy city and after a hard day of work, when I lie in bed watching your camping videos, always puts me in such a relaxing and calm mood that I go to sleep peacefully. Thank you.
You inspire me so much! I'm a 73 year old woman and you make me think I could do this too!
"look at that, just a carrot on your screen!" 😅 Your joy for that stew was brilliant. Fantastic videos thank you
I’m watching this at the start of 2024 and new years just don’t feel the same anymore
fell asleep at the 12 min mark then he woke me up when he started talking. these videos teach me a lot but help me sleep.
Whilst I am not barebones camping like you I am sitting outside my campervan right now with a lovely fire and a beer. My wife and kids are asleep inside. My friends think we are mad to do this. I think they are mad wanting to be indoors when the winter weather is so fine and there is so much to see. The dark sky being my favourite.
It was very nice because you showed how to collect good firewood to burn and how to light the fire in humid environment. Thanks for sharing.
I'd like to see you do a longer camping trip, say a week! That would be Totally Awesome!
Would absolutely love to see you do a colab with Joe and the other Canadian boys. Can't wait to see you hit a million in the coming months as well! You're not far behind!
Sitting here drinking a Hobgoblin too! Good choice
I think the things I appreciate most about your videos is the time you take setting up your shots. There's a lot of care taken when filming these videos and it's not just a typical outdoors channel GoPro/Selfie style video which most are comprised of. The result is gorgeous and makes you appreciate the filmmaker and the outdoors simultaneously. Great sound, great photography and they get better with each video. Sorry if I laid it on too thick ;) Keep it up, great content man!
Excellent Video mate. The little snippets and clips and images of your activities showing and being voiced over while you make your talks and comments is a really nice touch. Nice work make. 👍
A roaring campfire stirs the the stone age gene in all of us I am sure.
“Messsmeriiiising. You’re a wizard Harry” absolutely cracked me up haha. I don’t even know why. This is the first video in a while that’s really made me want to get back out in the woods and have a good old fashioned camp out with a big fire and a few beers. Cheers Mike. Keep it up
I've come out the pub and crawled under a bush till morning many times, no fire and no kit, ultimate bushcraft skills.
did you noticed, guys, what a great colours of that environment. Great video
It would be great stay there, with you. Magic!!!
Mike dont apologise for forgetting stuff , we all do it . great Video again thank you :-)
You mentioned Joe Robinet!! We love watching him too!!
Let's try get the guy to 1mill he's really good i enjoy watching his videos
Ok, that's the most beautiful pack I've ever seen...I mean EVER. It's made even more so by your best film work to date. The lighting, angles and focus were all on point. Amazing video...thanks so much for sharing.
Oh Mike Mike Mike I just love your videos you're so honest and natural I'm 60 years old and I'm just about ready to go out there and started myself I don't know about filming but just to go out and camping actually I like to build my own place out there in the woods to live I'm so tired of paying bills I think I can do it I'm not sure but you know something I think imma give it a try really do I thank you so much for inspiring me to at least go out and camp God bless you

Good Luck John...
That silence. Beautiful.
That shot wear you unbuckle the bad, Dude. Epic!
Oh man you should definitely try to do a canoe trip with Joe. Those Canadian parks are amazing.
African Safari with yer dad!....OMG that would be awwwwsome!
Great job taking care to collect the dead wood and not harm the live trunk of the tree. It's those fine details that enamored me to follow your expeditions.
Man. Beautiful cinematography. Love the ambiance of the the dead trees, the fog, the overcast, the lighting and color in the film. Beautiful work. Probably my favorite as far as cinematography goes. This shows your skill for production and video and artistic eye as well.

I am always satisfied with the quality of video, and the aesthetic and quality of your gear. Satisfying, calming, and makes me want to get out there and do. Keep this up, it's awesome!
Hey Mike . I am from the states and I had to let you know just how much I enjoy your videos, I have felt British every since I was little lol even named my cat Martha Thatcher when I was 7 . ( Iam 59 no ) I just did a DNA test and found out I am mainly British lol I had already guessed that though. Love all your vids but especially like the ones u and Dustin do together, you both make me proud to have British Blood surging through my veins, you guys Rock !!!!!!!!!!!!
That's awesome how you focused on the fire starting. Some guys don't.
Time to sit with a beer and watch this. Cheers Mike 👍
I totally agree love watching a good hot fire with all the different colours etc. I've watched your channel for a few years now and as a family we used to watch. You helped to re inspire me with the outdoors and over the last 12-24 months I've built back up my kit especially traditional fire kit. I had big plans for the end of this year and on into 2019 unfortunately my wife passed away a few months ago so I have to re think but your videos have really helped me get through he last month or so once I felt I could watch. Big thank you.

Hey! Cooking tip: cook the veggies in the broth first and add the pre-cooked meat right at the end. Keeps the meat from becoming over cooked. Cheers!
These videos are like ASMR
The mist, the light, the eerie atmosphere, the warm colors of the campfire - just great! Enjoyed watching this video! I'm looking forward to your upcoming adventures in 2019.
You seem to love camping.I use to like it too back in the days. Thanks for sharing this with us mate.
I love the vibe, scenery and atmosphere of this video. Honestly so relaxing and enjoyable
Next time you make a soup like that , pop a little bit of rice in , it just makes it. The camera you're using makes all the colours so vibrant.

Pearl barley would work as well 👍 maybe less stock and some beer would add some depth.

You can also use polenta, or oatmeal. A little is fine, one or two tablespoons per serving.
I was really admiring your axe. Nice lines on the head, good/sturdy pole, the beard on it is quite attractive, and goes very well with the curvy handle. Very nice... and, then you mentioned that you made it yourself. Extra compliments are due. Quality effort there Mike ! No beer introduction this time! Nice outing, enjoyed every bit of it as a viewer.
I've learned so much from your youtube videos. Thanks so much for helping me clear my mind. Because that's what making trips did for me in 2018. I wish you and your beautiful family all the best in 2019! Much love!
I’ll take your bag and all the goodies inside it thanks mate! Haha. Seriously mate your channel is KZread’s best.
All your equipment looks brand new. You must take very good care of your stuff. Great video
Nice quiet evening Mike! We are having an unusually warm start to our winter in New England. No snow yet and temps in the 40s (f). Your stew could have used celery and mushroom! Thanks for sharing 👍
about halfway into it. That’s one excellent supper though my personal preference would be to add something to thicken that broth up a bit, rice barley, some sort of instant starch like grits or oatmeal. Sometimes I like to take some of the densest bread I can find, cut it into cubes and completely dry them out in a low oven. Then bag it and bring it along

That's a really nice little axe. You done a fantastic job, Well done mate.
Wherever you are camping this trip.. it looks almost unrealistically beautiful. Right at the 5:00 minute mark. Never miss a video, Mike. 😁
Thank you for the wonderful year!
This video helped calm me down, thank you.
15:11 I giggled. I love that you showed, in the beginning, why you’re the OG of Cinematic Bushcraft, then you let loose and invited us int the fun. So great.
The video making craft aspect of this video is excellent. I really enjoyed all your shot choices, camera work, etc. Content is always excellent, but I really dug the style of this video. Cheers & thanks!
Man your filming and editing is freaking awesome! Inspires me to be better!! Love your content Mike! Cheers from Canada ;)
I love my little storm lantern, they give the most comforting light.
Great video, thank you for taking us with you. SurvivalAustria
Mike, jaxx, joe and scout. How about that collab
Fantastic video! So cinematographic!!!
That widow maker @7:08 nearly took you out! Lucky for you you had a hard hat on!
Great stuff mike, love the fact that you reached out to joe r,I know in the past there has been some thing between you but for us fans of both of you it’s great to see you both act like real men and bury the hatchet ha no pun intended, would be great if you both got together on a bigger trip and joined forces
Hot red coals from a camp fire always hypnotize me right to sleep. Happy New Year! Oh, the candle lantern would have been easier.
these are my favorite 🙂 no talking no annoying music the description of what to do and how to do it are the actions during the video and really interesting integrated b-roll shots.
When I found your channel....I knew you were the best communicator and teacher in your field....so I am one of the new ones who enjoy your vids to the max!!!
Thank you Mike for your great job on TA Outdoors. If one day yout want to come in Switzerland, I will be glad to show you some great bushcrafting spot. I wish you and your dad al the best for 2019. Greetings from Swiss.
As always it's a pleasure watching you having a good time in the outdoors. Cheers Mike
@TAOUTDOORS I found you and Joe Robinet at about the same time and remember watching you both in a hotel room while traveling with my wife and child for Thanksgiving 2017. I don't know which of you I saw first. Having always had an interest in the outdoors (& geology, biology, etc) as well as general survival, you've both intrigued me to develop bushcrafting as a hobby albeit a slow growing one given some time constraints as a mental health practitioner.
Another wonderful video. Thank you.
Perfect as always, and the references to the KZread Rewind make it even better xD. ("Aw that's hot.")
Wow your fire building skills are awesome
So much to learn by just watching. That's why I love your channel. Not a lot of talk & music. Ty for that. You are my favorite bushcrafter. Thumbs up 👍 Excellent!
Another great video, Mike. I love the coat/jacket by the way!
Nicely done! Fine equipment. Gnarly looking tender but you got it going nicely. Well Done
Thank You Mike, really enjoyed the video.
Probably a salt hangover with those two stock pots. Good video Mike.
Awesome camp! Absolutely beautiful location. Plow point is a great set up. That ferro rod handle was gorgeous. Looked like a great time brother.
I look forward to your videos.Wish you and your family a joyful, healthy, prosperous and happiest new year ahead! Happy New Year.Greetings from Vietnam

LOL. Saw an advert for a Mulled Wine Gift Set during this video. Perfect.
I love your vids and I may not be out there in the wilderness but your videos have really inspired me and put a smile on my face
You know you look like the actor Bruno Langley, right? Having said that, we really like your videos! Keep it up! Thanks!
Extremely well edited
The camera shots in this are mega, good job
Til next time Mike. Well done.
Just found your channel , and I choose who I watch by there personality first and there skill second, that is why I love Joe Robinet, he is always fun to watch, nOW going to watch you, cause I like you... Most Bush craft channels,as a woman watching them, there personality is not so good, and that is really important...and you did great for no breakfast or water, nice going///

I would like to see you have a trip with Joe, if you ever take a trip to Canada.
Love that axe!! 😍
I would love to see you connect with Joe Robinet in Canada (a full on Canadian winter adventure would be awesome!) or a "nicer/spring/summer/fall" weather 8-10 day canoe trip. Of course I would love to come along and photograph it all!
Hope you had a great Christmas!
