3 Day Camp in the Woods - Bushcraft Shelter, Dog, Wool Blanket (STORM FORCE WINDS)

Ойын-сауық

Join me on a 3 day camp in the woods with my friend Dustin and his dog. We build a bushcraft shelter using natural materials, sleep on tree leaves, deer hides and a wool blanket. Storm force winds threaten to destroy the bushcraft camp that we built but we secure it down and use a tarp to protect us from the storm wind and rain. Using bushcraft skills, we built our shelter out of tree saplings from the forest. Once we build the foundation of the shelter, we put a tarp over the top to protect it from the rain and keep the inside of the shelter dry. On Day 2, we really expand the camp, and build a fire reflector with axe and saw, as well as building a cooking setup with pot hangers for the cast iron oven and kettle. Dustin had prepared some tasty camping meals for the 3 days that we were there. On the first night we spit roast a whole chicken over the fire, the second night we grill a steak over the fire and cook vegetables hobo style in the ash. On the 3rd day, we had storm force winds over 40mph rip through the forest, thanksfully our bushcraft shelter was secured and lasted through the storm. It was an epic 3 days, a camping trip to remember for sure! Thanks for joining us on the adventure! - Mike

Hello. please. I need tips for perfect places for bushcraft in england. if possible with lakes to be able to (try) fish. or clean river. I'm out of work, I need a 4 or 5 days rest before my big holidays, which will only be in February or March and a 3 days next to Christmas (December). I make this request because I am not English, I am Portuguese, maintenance work in a hotel in London, and not what the law says about bushcraft in England. My English is also weak and I do not want to have problems with police or anything. thank you very much.

My English is weak, but I think I understand you. you are trying to say that it is forbidden to fish and eat the fish. I know this rule, I return the fish to water. I promise. I've been reading a very good article on the author's internet: paul kirtley's blog. article title: how-to-find-a-place-to-practice-bushcraft-skills-in-the-uk and now I know I'm plotted. if you can not find a place where you have no problems here in England, maybe I'll go to portugal or to Sweden;) as Nathan says. a blog reader commenting on this article; comment: (Now I'm living in Sweden and being a "crazy person who would rather sleep outside in the wet and cold rather than his bed" (typical British person's thoughts) is the norm and I can freely do so thanks to Allemansrätten. Private land, fires, picking berries / mushrooms, camping, roaming, you name it. It makes the UK feel rather backwards.)

This must be the fourth or fifth time I've watched this. Mike, I never thanked you. I was in a really dark place about a year ago after my brother took his own life. I felt as though I could not go on too and got very sick from the stress. Thankfully your channel helped me so much during those dark days. The tranquility of the outdoors and your interactions with dad gave me a lot of peace. So thank you Mike, I love your videos. Please, keep up the good work :)

I had the privilege of participating in a sweat lodge ceremony when I was about 14 and living in Illinois. What an amazing experience. Some shapes/structures/functions we humans create are just natural extensions of our imaginations and solutions, aren't they? And in that, we see the manifestation of our humanity transcending time and space, like a long, connecting thread.

In Africa some tribes in the Congo i believe use the very same methods to create their nightshelters when on hunting trips, the structure is so sturdy it can last a while when made proper. Sometimes tribesmen come back to the same place and just have to reapply big leaves for cover, the structure still being sound!

I started with the idea of bushcraft and going out in the Woods, sleeping there, ... about one year ago, so I bought the equipment I need. I somehow never went out and sleeping outside. Now, I was more interested again and went out do camp, but it started to be to cold for my sleeping bag and I can't afford a better one (I am only 16), but next spring, I really want to spend some more nights in the forest. But until then, I'll watch your videos and learn from them. I am really happy to have you and your videos. Thanks!

Greetings from the Boy Scouts of Greece! Lovely setup and mouth-watering food! I suppose the shelter could be described as a "Europeanised" wigwam. Also, a stone or mud screen at the base of the heat reflector works wonders against the spread of fire. I understand the "Leave no trace behind" ethic but In my own humble opinion when a structure is safe and 100% biodegradable, just as the frame of your shelter was, it should be left behind. It could prove useful to another camper who has to set up a shelter eg. under adverse weather. Very well done! Cheers!

Dustin is a 'champion' example of what a professional guide can do to make a woods outing into a lifetime memorable event. Amber is some awesome stick fighter with a hazel stave! I always enjoy your outings with Dustin for bushcraft challenges and for top-class 'guide's' food. I like ripe fresh figs very well. They are more appealing than the 'Fig Newton' cookie bars of my childhood. 'James Bond' in his early adventures, enjoyed Greek Yoghurt and fresh figs for a gourmet breakfast. When I went out with a wool blanket, I also took horse blanket safety pins to keep the footwell of my sleep system together during the night.

This appears to be a variation from the recent shelter made on the Survival Russia channel. Love seeing Amber and Dustin again. What a great outdoor cook Dustin is, so original in his ideas. A grand outdoor chef. He's now in competition with Carlisle 195, which is a high bar to meet. I wonder if Jaxx and Amber would get along. One of the best things about this channel is, regardless of what you know, you bring in others to instruct you, whether it's your dad or Dustin, and that is a great thing because we all learn at the same time.

Another Iowa subscriber here. We did the banana boats in the Boy Scouts but also added mini marshmallows. Kids loved them. After being a leader for 24 years, I could almost write a book on campfire cooking. I must admit, all the knots I learned and taught, you taught me a new one. Just goes to show, your never to old to learn something new.

Englishmen, sitting out in the bush, sleeping in a bivy, cooking on an open fire, and discussing the merits of tea. How wonderful! When we we used to go bush our whole day revolved around finding food and cooking and eating. Like as it should be. All the best.

Once up in Alaska I'd had enough problems so I took a tote tub with a pull rope on it took a tarp two wool blankets , a big steak and so on . Some beer an axe . Cut some brows , built a small fire . Crooked my steak on a green forked stick . It fell into the hot coals once but still one of the best mosquito flavored steaks I've ever eaten...good video young men , I'm 73 now ...God bless you guys , enjoy life cause it slips by quickly.......

We had a yellow Labrador Setter (looked just like Amba) named Amba Gita. We loved her dearly even though she was the dumbest dog I've ever had. We lived thirty miles out of Austin, Tex . on 10 acres situated about a100 yards from a slow farm road and she managed to get run over by a school bus. Great video!!!! Thumbs up!!! First time I went camping with my friend, we ended up just bringing those ready-made meals (just add hot water!). second time we were more prepared and less scared and we actually bought burger patties, brats, (lunch) and steak (dinner). friend forgot the potatoes at his house for dinner so ended up just having steak for dinner. We didn't really know how to set up/start a charcoal fire. Always thought it was easy - didn't help that the wind was howling and it was difficult to get it going. And then it started raining... but the steak was delicious. I'm sure it was the hard labor involved that made me even moreso (sweat is salty, good seasoning? lol jk). We've improved since then but just the memories were so worth it.

you can also make chilicaseroles / pasta. spread it in thin layer on baking trays and slowly dehydrate it over night in the oven on as low temprature you can put it on but preferably whit the fan on. and you have some much much higher quality quick lunches for in the between snacks or wen u want some extra warmt, just add some water to rehydrate and put it on the fire!

I like the fact that it was just a woodland clearing, then someone who has passed through the clearing numerous times could come across your bender and find great food, drink, warmth and merriment, then 4 days later, it would just be a woodland clearing again. As if you were never there. There's magic in that.
