Solo trip to the disaster areas in Tohoku, Japan 10 years after the disaster

I went on a trip to the disaster areas 10 years after the disaster, Miyagi Prefecture, where the largest number of people died by prefecture.
"Traveling around the disaster areas" may sound strange to you. For many foreign people, the image of the disaster areas is the towns destroyed by the tsunami that were repeatedly broadcasted on the news ten years ago. I wanted to show how those towns have changed and are now places where you can travel. The towns and the people who are trying to recover from the disaster are as beautiful as or more beautiful than the temples in Kyoto or Mt. Fuji...etc. Especially, Onagawa town, which is called the most successful town in terms of recovery, if someone who has never heard of 311 disaster were to visit there, they might think of it as a town with just a nice atmosphere by the sea.
And some people may feel that "traveling around the disaster areas" is unethical and hesitate to do so. However, the reason why the schools and the police station have been preserved is because the survivors of the disaster want you to see them.
I hope you will visit the Tohoku region someday. Of course, with respect.
Travel information in brief.
Sendai City: You can get there from Tokyo by Shinkansen (2 hours), airplane (1 hour), or bus (6 hours). It is a very big city. There are many hotels ranging from luxury to cheap.
Matsushima: About 30 minutes from Sendai by car or train. Walking around the town in the morning is recommended. There are some historical and luxury inns. You don't need a car to get around.
Nobiru: About 50minutes from Sendai by car or 30 to 50 minutes by train.
Ishinomaki: 1 hour from Sendai by car or train. Buses and taxies are available to get around the city, but a car is recommended since it is a large city.
Onagawa: About 30 minutes by car or train from Ishinomaki. It is a small town, so a car is not necessary.

After uploading this, I suddenly thought of something I hadn't thought of before. It occurred to me that some of the younger generation may not know about the disaster in Japan. Let me give you a brief explanation. On March 11, 2011, an earthquake occurred, followed by a very large tsunami that hit the coastal areas. More than 20,000 people died, including those who were missing and earthquake related deaths. At the time, I was taking a nap at home in greater Tokyo when I was awakened by the shaking, and when I turned on the TV, I was speechless to see a scene that looked like something out of a movie. If I remember correctly, it was in May, about two months after the earthquake, that I visited Miyagi, Iwate and other parts of Tohoku to volunteer. What shocked me the most was the clear visualization of the lines to show how far the tsunami had reached. The area where the tsunami reached and the other areas were as different as like heaven and hell. And we have received huge donations and support in many other ways from countries all over the world. As you see, recovery is underway in many places. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. This video is as long as a Dostoevsky novel and this my comment is also long, but I would appreciate it if you could read the long description as well (always humor is important). Thank you again.

No unnecessary dialogues, beautiful shots, sceneries and soundtrack to transport me there. From the bottom of my heart please continue what you are doing. Really looking forward for more. Family and friends got seperated and many died . But by the end of the story , we learnt the lessons of the manner and nature of the locals . It's amazing . Their temparament and etiquette , Japanese people teach me lots of life lessons and I'm forever grateful for their existence and exemplary life .

I salute you posting this video as a reminder of the tragic loss of so many innocent lives. I remember back in 2011 watching in horror on TV and KZread when the tsunami hit. The Japanese people face so many natural disasters, but they always act together to rebuild their cities. By the end of your video, when you posted the statistics of the victims… that was tough. To see “just numbers”, as you put it, of how many people perished by age groups… yes, definitely, numbers are important. Every number on that list had a life, a family, a mom and dad. They will live now only in our memory.

Thank you for bringing me through the trip! Believe it or not, I still watch the Tsunami documentaries until today. The tsunami in Aceh and Japan are the big ones as far as my memory could bring me. And this video here unfolds a lot of unexplainable emotions in me. I can't imagine myself evacuating safely but not knowing how other family members are doing; are they safe, or alive, are they hurt ... sending my love to all who survived. 10 is just a number, but 10 years of healing, coping, adapting is not easy. Mega hugs! Also, this is the kind of date I've always loved 🤭 I'd rather go to places like these. There is so much to learn.

Still thinking about the tragedy made my spine chill. So nowadays when I watch the places, the peoples that suffered it makes me realise how tough and how strong those people are who lost their homes and loved ones. I think we all can learn from that. Thank you 🙏❤️
