Solo in the Spotlight

Ойын-сауық

Barbie carries a torch in her soulful song, in this quintessential vintage Barbie fashion that I am not too fond of!

If Barbie was going to sing I’d hope she would perform Smoke gets in your eyes. The man that got away. I believe the lies of handsome men. Cry me a river. And to close out her 30 minutes of broken hearted songs she would finish with fever!

When my mother was a little she lived in New York and her aunt took her to a dinner club in the 50s and she recalls they served her Cherry ice cream in the shape of a rose. I asked why she was there. The ice cream had been the main part of her story and she casually mentioned oh we were there to hear Rosemary Clooney sing. Apparently it was a small concert and very wonderful. But not as amazing as cherry ice cream in the shape of a rose. I imagine if Barbie sang she would serve Cherry ice cream in the shape of a rose too.

@@seamusmaguire7668 Molded ice creams were a status symbol in the 1950s. The antique molds have since been banned for use because they contained lead. I once saw a flower and a peach left over from a wealthy relative's luncheon. I think I was given the ice cream flower to eat.

I'm wondering if you ever made this outfit ...I have two different patterns for it: one is knitted (which I've started doing) and the other is sewn, but I'm not sure I have the right fabric for it.

Hold the little circle part up as high as possible and then try to get the hook to “grab” it! It’s usually hard and it takes me a few minutes, that’s why I always do it before the video!

Oh THAT one, I had a feeling that’s the one that came with it. Just loop it around twice! Sometime I take off her head gently to fit over the neck easily!

Edward Smith you just pinch the head lightly and gently rock it back and forth. You have to be careful, it can rip the plastic around the neck and she will have a crack right where you don’t want it!

I think I had the right one but I couldn’t find it or I went by the picture, which didn’t have the right one that actually came with it.

What does it mean "m.i.a."? This is not one of my favorite outfits: even in my opinion it is "too much". I will leave it among the last (possible) purchases...

Okay, had to rewatch my video to understand the context. I was in a bad mood because the videos I wanted to do weren’t able to happen. What I meant by “this is not my art” is that I didn’t design the outfit or Barbie herself, I am someone documenting the fashion and my opinions on it. I don’t want to give an impression that I had anything to do with the creation of the doll or her outfits, hence why i don’t consider my videos “creative” in the same way that real art is. And I do it because I think all the outfits deserve their own video, because they are interesting and fun to see in comparison to what we see today. No one else is attempting to catalog piece by piece the vintage outfits. I think if someone else decides to do it and with a better budget and talent, I’ll quit.
