VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Kayla is a Grad student by day and a van lifer by weekend. When Covid hit with restrictions, she was determined to travel amongst friends to maintain human contact and relationships, thus her weekend warrior of a tiny home on wheels! This driven woman took life into her own hands when she designed and built out her Ford Transit Connect to meet the open road.
The design is crafty and versatile, as Kayla used creative techniques to get the most out of her small space. The kitchen pulls out from the back and extends to construct a large cooking spot and more counter room for preparation. The seating area converts into several different positions creating a dining set, a single sleeper, a double bed, or a traditional couch. Although she loves her tiny home, a larger conversion might be in her future!

I've been on a Transit Connect video binge since comparing the mileage with the larger vans. I need to see that it's doable and you have certainly proved it is. Great build.

I know people look for the mpg aspect when choosing a rig, but how long do people last in these smaller vans tho. Is the 6 gallons more worth the minuses? After watching van lifers like Element Van Life start in the NV & adding a pop up, then switching to a van that he can stand up in gives me hesitation to even go with a NV or Transit Connect. More power to ya'll tho who make it work.
I love every single thing about her build - the slide out kitchen and the modular bed, couch, dinette. She thought of every single detail when planning this out. Super impressed.
I am absolutely not a tiny van fan, mostly because I'm a Clydesdale but this one really is something she should be proud of, this is one of the best connects I've seen
Your kitchen design is pure genius! So impressive all the way around. Good luck with your Masters’s program. Creative intellect like yours is shaping the medical possibilities of tomorrow!

I love those simpler options. It's so interesting to see what differenr people need and to see that you dont need much sometimes
Love the layout 🙂 Only thing to make it personal to me I would add an external shower, Murphy bed and portable toilet so I could be more stealth 🙂 also convert to high-top as I much prefer to stand up
It seems like a Ford transit is the way to go. Small but spacious at the same time. Love this set up
The colors you use and the windows help it not to feel cramped.

I agree! Her layout is brilliant and feels very open.
This is an amazing use of space. I love the simplicity of her solutions. They will last a long time.
Kayla's Ford Transit build is by far the BEST of any that I've researched. Multiple use options galore. The slide out Kitchen is Amazing. Every inch of space utilized. CONGRATZ Kayla. I am totally Impressed with your DIY Build
Love the pull out kitchen. Great design. Tfs.
she fit allot in a small space, and I agree the windows really opens up the space, really nice job.
That is the best mini camper ever 👏👏👏
So many ingenious ideas in just the kitchen alone. I'm very impressed!
I am very impressed with your design and maximizing every sq inch of space in your Van. Awesome! Wishing you the best with your future.
Very impressed with what you have done with such a small van 😳😳
Slide out kitchen is interesting, using 1/8 aluminium is definitely something that can be applied to other areas as well, to save that extra space.
You have a wonderful thought out build. I really like all the windows too.
You go girl keep on learning you keep the attitude going…nice you have a dad helping ❤🙋♀️🥰
You say that your van is not like anyone else’s. You have RAISED THE BAR with this build and I just want it lol! I can see myself making the smaller size a reality. This is truly a great build and awesome inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing!
Kudos for your well-thought out plan. I'm 6'4", so a minivan build is not in my future. But I think you did extremely well, and the back refrigerator dual slide-out shelf is brilliant; have not seen another like that!

There is a couple here on YT that owns the exact same model and the guy is 6'5" and he fits. I am 6'1" and i fit in my Kangoo camper no problem, you just have to push the front seats further away..
Outstanding use of space- the kitchen is especially creative!
Perfect, absolutely perfect. This is my design on a larger scale, but exactly what l want. To be able to wlk completely through & use my cab as part of my living by hvn both seats on 360' swivel. This design allows for all tht, w minimal tweaks. Beautiful beautiful build. Thxs for sharing, be safe & Best Wishes on your travels & school.
I love all the windows....they're so important 2me as well. I applied the maximum tinted blackout sheets so it's like sun glasses 🕶 all around. A canning funnel in a corner of the counter gives a place to spit when brushing my teeth and as it drains into a skinny 2gal jug under the counter, allows me to empty the washbasin when dumping outside is not an option. A little hanging space behind the passenger seat 💺 allows me to hang a few pretty dresses 👗 [I'm a GIRLY-Girl]. The main thing 4me was a TOILET....actually the 1st thing I bought....everything else was worked around that. I love your flexible floor plan. 😊
Very beautiful, Kayla and her build. I think she did a really great job, very cleaver build. I wish her lots of happiness and freedom in the future.
Great van. She’s so smart and well spoken. Love how well thought the rig is.
Wow! What an awesome kitchen design, and I love the whole build! Thank you so much for sharing it with us😃
Best rig I’ve seen yet ! You are an amazing young lady , Have an awesome life 💕
I absolutely love your build, you did an awesome job designing it & utilizing the available space to the maximum benefit! ❤
I've been eyeing a Transit Connect for a few years and your build is by far the best that I've seen. You've got all the things that I'd want - in particular the dining/office space and your flexible kitchen. You did such a great job.
I love the versatility of your coach/bed. Such a great build. Looks great and comfortable!
This is - by far - the best setup I’ve seen. Love the table setup under the bed….!
What a nice design, very well thought out, and does not looked cramped at all. I love the way you are able to carry extra items like your bike. The colors selected are vibrant and look great with that wood counter top and white cabinets.
I always store my food in the bottom drawers, it keeps cooler that way. I find if I store them in the top cupboards, they get heated up. Lovely van build though.
As I said before, brilliant work in design, engineering solving the right problem. I see you have a roof over your out door kitchen as well. Parking lot cooking at big sport games (tailgating) is familiar in the USA I would say, so when necessary it would be possible, and even on wet days. On wet days nobody would be around.
Brilliant kitchen indoors and out and sink! Great. Smart, helpful friends.
I love, love, love your van! Best transit connect build I’ve seen!
For one person the Connect is a great choice! It's spacious, does decent miles per gallon and it's a solid reliable car.

I have 150000 miles on my 2012 transit connect, and I can tell you it’s not a reliable car . Have replaced the , thermostat, expansion tank, fan , coils , up stream sensor, hood key cylinder, transmission pan and gasket. After taking it to a mechanic they said it needs a new engine and Cadillac converter, and in a couple years the transmission will need to be replaced. I have kept up on fluid changes and plugs and filters . The engine is used in the Ford Focus and is under powers for a van. It’s not a lemon , but to say it’s reliable is a stretch.

@Matthew Harlin If you have 150k miles on a 10yr old vehicle and are just now having to get a new catalytic converter, all I can say is, "WOW! That is awesome because those suckers are usually gone after 50k for most other brands/models." As for your other issues - I never ran into them in any of my vehicles, several of which have gone to 275k+ miles, so cannot address them. Good luck going forward.
Great ideas--the couch bed table switcheroo---- the slide out kitchen and the bottom slide out popout sink..neat----if there is room when your door is shut you might add a tilt up panel on the end of the kitchen slide for more stove room and more counter top for cooking!!! Real nice job!!!!
I keep coming back to this video for inspiration!!! Love the ideas in this build!
I just bought a 2013 Ford Transit Connect with windows all the way around like yours. I love the windows so much and I've been searching for a functional build that doesn't cover them. Thank you so much for this. It brought me so much inspiration for my own rig. Happy travels ✌️🌼🤍
this is probably one of the best options that I have seen for this model
Your van/tiny home is incredible. Ty for sharing. :)
I’ve watched dozens of van build videos and this is the best design for a Transit Connect I’ve seen. Congrats!
Love this tiny space, you did an amazing job. Thanks for sharing.
genius kitchen pullout design, plus the double set up of the seating area. fantastic! happy travels and good luck with the master's degree.
You don’t need anything else right now. You’ve got everything you need for now and it’s super awesome! When you’re ready for something else, I’m sure it’ll go quick! Great job and good luck to you in all your endeavor, you’ll go far!👍
Love the vibes! and the van. Definitely inspired seems very one has a sprinter van love to see something different and love to see how you've utilized everything so well.
Loved the L-shaped seating/dining plan!
Her comments at the end… I needed to hear , thank u ❤️❤️❤️
One of cleverest builds I've seen... well done gurl!
Great job. Very cool on the pull out kitchen. Every consider a job designing "Transformers" robots. Like a swiss army knife on wheels
I've been in construction more than 40 years and have a penchant toward vans RVs and built out cargo trailers. I have a cargo trailer that is a master piece. I must say you did a most excellent job. Very well done. You definitely have a craftsmanship talent. And the help of friends is always nice.

I really like the bed ideas and all the windows, like a vanagon. The VW westfalia vans have a shock cord running down each side just below the windows that you can tuck the curtain into. Looking to find one of these for treks.
It is BEAUTIFUL!! So perfect!
That kitchen is everything! That’s what I love :D

Wow! A clever design! You have a definite future as a van builder ❤️. Thanks for sharing 🥰🚙🇨🇦
That slide out kitchen is the bomb diggety
People forget that there is a huge amount of space outside the van doors. You have added to the amenity of the great outside with your brilliant kitchen. Everybody puts in the big kitchen exhaust, and puts the kitchen in the door way, they totally miss the main point of living anywhere/everywhere away from the city confines. Solving the real problems. Focused solutions. Money in the bank and living the dream exploring with the essentials.
Awesome Kayla.. great work!
love the rear cooking area! Nice build in a smaller van!

Love the metal work saving space and it worked smart. Like the pattern design. I like your portable power source and solar panels. It is similar to a Jackery, didn't catch the brand. Will replay and see. Sounds like you said, Pac X.
Love It Awesome Build 👌Good Luck in your studies . Peace and Safe Travels
