SolidGoldFX Devil Drive feat. Jeff Waters
Музыка
Jeff Waters of Annihilator runs through his signature SolidGoldFX Devil Drive and demonstrates how he uses the pedal to get his awesome tone. This dude can play!!!
www.solidgoldfx.com/jeff-water...
We were very excited when Jeff decided to retire his old overdrive he'd been using since the 80's and ask us if we'd be interested in building him a more modern pedal to achieve his signature tone. Many months and countless prototypes later, we are happy to introduce our first signature pedal, the Jeff Waters Devil Drive.
The Devil Drive draws its roots from the legendary OD-1 overdrive that Jeff has used since the very beginning to achieve the tight, articulate metal tones he is known for. The Devil Drive is not your typical metal pedal; it doesn't boast extremely high levels of gain, scooped mids or insane bass. Instead it is designed to be layered and textured with heavy hitting, hard rock amps to deliver its scorching tone or used on its own for some bluesy bite. It features a simple 2 mode, 3 knob layout, true bypass switching and low-noise design. The tone is clear and focused with excellent string definition and no loose, flabby low end or ear piercing highs. Its drive ranges from clean boost to a hot overdrive.
The Mode switch allows you to select either Vintage or Modern modes. In Vintage mode, only the Volume and Drive controls are active, the Tone circuit is bypassed. This mode is what Jeff's signature sound is all about. The Modern mode is a bonus setting we added for him. In this mode, the Tone control is active and output gain is increased for a hotter signal.
From Blues to Rock to Heavy to Thrash Metal, the Devil Drive will be an irreplaceable addition to your arsenal as it has been for Jeff Waters. Check out Jeff's band ANNIHILATOR at Annihilatormetal.com!

Jeff waters you are such an underrated guitarist

It isn't as much about how a musician is rated or underrated as it is what the general public enjoys on a more broad level or scale. Truth is, the majority of the public simply does not have the intellect to comprehend certain forms of music, so those things will most likely always remain underground. That's why classical music isn't as popular as it was 200 year ago. Modern people want a trendy and cheap fix, rather than in-your-face virtuosity.

Far from it. He's been quite successful. Definitely one of the tightest guitarists metal has ever produced.

Not underrated at all. He is a legend.
*My idol, Jeff Waters is practically Van Halen if he loved Thrash Metal.*
This guy is sooooooo f***in' awesome!!!!!
I like how Jeff works with companies to create stuff he actually uses, rather than just slapping his name on something for a quick buck.
Fantastic concert in Bucharest (Romania) in 19.11.2019. King of riff🤘🤘🤘🤘🍺🍺🍺
My other guitarist in the Band got one for his Birthday and we used it on 90% of our tracks in the studio. Phantastic Pedal.
got mine some time ago and it really is the only overdrive you're ever going to need.
It is unfair how fucking awesome he is.
My other overdrive pedals have retired after I bought this pedal. Quick response to emails from Solid Gold and Jeff, you are the king of thrash metal.

That sound gets me pumped and the goose bumps raise from head to toe. Jeff Waters' tone just sends inspiration through my bones. Jeff is definetly the king of thrash.
no need for teacher, YOU ARE THE MASTER.
I got my DD 9 months ago, and that's literally THE ONLY pedal I've been using since that time... Thrash/Speed metal, Blues, Rock, name it! This baby will blow dust off the stage! Thanks Jeff and SolidGoldFX! This pedal is really SOLID GOLD for me! Keep up the good work! \m/
Bought this pedal based on this demo. Damn fine pedal in front of my jcm800
jeff is awesome and so is Annihilator one the best of all time metal bands . \m/
My guitar hero! All my guitars are red cause of this guy!
One of the sweetest tones on metal
Amazing Pedal Just Got Mine the Other Day
A saw them live a few days ago. Jeff's guitar sound is perfect. I've seen some great bands live and noone comes near his sound.. Amazing
I use it combined with the gain channel from my amp. Depending on what type of music you're playing (for example blues), you can use the pedal alone, or (if you're playing metal) combine it with the amp's gain channel - and that's where the true potential of any overdrive pedal lies. Since it's made to OVERdrive already active drive (gain) channel from the amp, combining pedal knobs with your amp's gain knob will make you discover a wide variety of tones with this baby. Cheers!
This guy ROCKS !
Officially on my "Must Buy!" list, sounds great! \m/
I m not into that kind of playing but jeff explained that pedal so well that i think i ll buy it
Nice medley
this sounds really good with my active pickups. i also love throwing a big muff with it too!
At the beginning of the 90s I went to see annhilator at the foufounes electric in Montreal and I was stunned to realize it was using only an old boss distortion into a marshall with very clean setting.
Can't wait to see him tomorrow :)

I had to get ahold of solid gold and he made one up for me but it doesn’t have Jeff’s signature. That’s ok. I’ve got his signature on a lot of other stuff.
The Human Insecticide riff is about as hard as it comes to get clean.

i found the easiest way to think about that riff when playing it is to imagine king of the kill sped way the fuck up.
Stonewalll!!!!
5:50 STONEWALL!!! =D
aside from Jeff's advice on the boss od-1 or his pedal to keep more clarity,be sure and install medium output pickups as opposed to emgs or Duncan sh-6's.you can still get all the gain you need but with greater note definition. Chuck R.777-_-
@cattycats4

many ways to get note definition bud, its not all about rolling back the gain or using mid/low output pickups, I got huge note definition in my custom humbuckers from Q-Tuner and even though they carry 25kohm resistance which is way more than emgs or seymour duncans (except the slug) the fact they use high quality neodymium magnets instead of ceramic/alnico makes a lot of difference. :-) I can whack the gain to 11, use super hot pickups and control everything using the pick. The main key to having note definition and clarity is using passive pickups as the active ones dont allow for much pick control etc. just some things for you to consider. I would not recommend to anyone to use mid/low output pickups for metal youll end up sounding like the old rocker that says they can do death metal on a single coil tele as long as the amp is loud enough - you wont sound good!
Is this still being sold anywhere?
6:48 nice to see how his fingers move on bloodbath
Is he playing a song at 4:24? If so, which one? Sounds awesome!
Damn this guy is FAST
8:00 very dimesque... Nice
Jeff is my man,my love fuck me Jeff.
Who else heard Jeff waters playing the theme song for twisters written by Van Halen's called humans being
"It would turn a lot of the fast stuff to mush, and you wouldn't be able to decipher what I was doing, and it'd....bug me."
10:40 phantasmogoria
man, I would love to hear Human Insecticide 6:36 with modern sounds.
Fucking Insane player \m/
Holy shit fuck... maybe i should see this video tommorow.. when i am sober
After he played that riff, I was expecting the Hook in Mouth intro.
so how does he use it? in front of the amp or as a secondary gain mode?
@guntherachterhof4876
6 жыл бұрын
He first plugs the guitar into the pedal, and from what I understood he only uses the vintage mode, so no tone, just volume and drive at 12 o'clock. After this the cable goes straight into the amp that is already overdriven. There is no need for a high gain, because otherwise the sound will turn into fuzz. I would add a noise gate between the pedal and the amp because it can still get somewhat noisy.
FUCKIN SICK
Definitely a rhythm guitarist.
@xxFABRI56xx

What did you meant with that?
Sounds too good for a pedal. Was that all done on a clean amp channel?
do you use it on its own or in conjunction with your amps gain channel?
БОГ!
I love how Canadian people and Irish people have to make it known that there from a specific country
@ShadovvV

True. Jeff also has a roundabout way of repeating Annihilator is 'the best thing Canada ever had to offer' in Metal, but he doesn't wear it on his sleeve. Ever wonder why he never networks with other Canadians such as Voivod for example? He never even toured the USA either! Quite peculiar. Maybe he's not legal. Another distinct characteristic about him is how he always acts in interviews. He constantly reiterates the same information over and over, while making almost zero eye contact. It's almost as if he's reading off a script, which he essentially is.. in his own mind.

Annihilator IS the best thing in thrash metal, period. Its just a bonus that he is Canadian.

Nope, it's Phantasmagoria by Annihilator.
To think Jeff turned down Megadave when he was looking for a lead guitarist to replace Chris Poland....

Nah, Marty only did solos for Rust in Piece, but he wrote some songs for the albums he played on after that. Rust in Piece would have been mostly the same, but I think we would've had better Megadeth albums in the 90s.

Jeff Waters signature Epiphone has a kill switch for that exact effect. Not all his tone comes from a pedal, any rockstar will tell you it's in the hands. No one sounds like Jeff Waters with his gear, just like no sounds like Jimmy Hendrix if they plug in to his gear. His guitar would probably help with those squeals too, my Fender Strat just can't do that. LOL
10:40 What Megadeth song is that?! Something off of So Far.. So Good... So what..

Jeff waters lives in England now I think so we claim annihilator as Britain's metal band now mwuhahaha.
When he began playing Human Insecticide at 06:36 :3 The most trashy song ever! Equal trashyness to Angel Of Death, if not trashier! :D
where did you buy it? and what is the price?
