The Annihilation II is a good guitar overall, but here is my true experience, I bought one in a local store in April 2018, which I believe is the last brand new guitar still selling in NYC, but I found around 10 frets start from 12th to higher have scratch(looks like they were damaged by something heavily pressed on strings and leave scratch on those frets, and you can feel the string stuck there when you push strings.) I returned the guitar. I was lucky that I had another chance to buy one 2nd hand this summer. Much more better but still have 2~3 scratch on one or two frets. If the first one was the factory quality control issue, how come other people's Annihilation also have same problem? Also this guitar seems hard to setup for a low action, string buzz always happened on some frets. I got mine setup in guitar store, except you adjust it in a high action or adjust the trus rod. I do have some other brand's guitar under $500 range with perfect setup balance, kind disappointed to Epiphone, Jeff is such a guitar master, his signature model should deserve a higher quality.

I have the first model and its a dream to play, the action is nice and low and I have never had any problems with it.

@@Viney209 I never played Annihilation 1 so I don't know and don't want to comment that model. But in some fourms people talking about 1 has better quality than 2 because Epiphone tried to lower their cost of production. I bought Annihilation 2 twice and found same issue on 2 guitars, it's hard to let believe I was "unlucky" twice instead of questing their QC issue. Action wise, Epiphone promoted it as a "Thrash Metal" type guitar, I personally expect a C shape rather than slim-D with lower action Jackson feel. So I kept this guitar just because I really like Jeff.

@@samcui5680 I have had the 1st model for nearly 10 years and its always treated me right, I dunno, I thought the 2nd model would have been better but I guess not, that kinda sucks, the discontinued series that I have is amazing to play, even had it all set up by a pro guitar tech who said the same.

Such a simple set up and sounds so great. And you see todays bands use a million dollars equip and still sound like shit.

Jeff is always nice :) But honestly.. If you cant sing it. get a fucking singer. Jeff wasnt bad in the KotK era. But now hes trying to sing like Padden. And this istnt that good. I loved the old dirty jeff voice.. Ps. Nice rundown :)

Yeah, sure, when it comes to the singer, it is mostly always very subjective if you like it. Maybe there could be better singing ... but seems like that is how Jeff likes it right now. ;)

Funny how Jeff always says he uses 10-48 gauge Ernie Ball strings.. because they don't make any. They only make 11-48 and 10-46 gauges.

Maybe he buys the 2 sets and picks 3 strings from one set and 3 strings from the other. Many guitarists do it

***** Either way, doesn't a .48 gauge seem a bit too thin for the sound Jeff gets? The low string sounds more like a .52 or a .54 to me..

Hi alltogether. I guess Jeff gets his own „Custom“ Sets for sure. :) And he probably knows which gauge he's playing. BTW: A very heavy sound does not always mean very heavy strings. It's more like the combination of all components - and of course the hands of the player. :)

No, I'm using Ernie Ball 9-42 and sometimes 9-46 and if I tune down 3 steps like Jeff does now I can get a very heavy tone.

  • @ShadovvV

***** Funny you would say that because I would say Jeff's tuning is higher, like maybe a standard E or even A.
