Trevor Dayley is back again with another video. Here in Arizona, it is hotter than a jalapeño's armpit so wedding day portraits mean starting at 5 a.m. for cooler weather. Our video team tagged along for Gisele and Cole's wedding to create some soft portraits using the new MagBox System.

You are absolutely right to mention that how much MagBox creates soft lighting. I am simply using Magsphere and it is a small brother of MagBox and it gives beautiful soft lighting. Thanks, MagMod for such beautiful gadgets to ease our job.
More, more, more! So awesome. So helpful. Thank you Trevor
this was a very educational video regarding proper lighting techniques and how to use Magbox, thanks!
Super helpful!!! I am so excited to get my magbox
This is my new favorite channel I'm learning a lot from you guys.
Great video, I can't wait to get my magbox and other magmod products. Very helpful video. Thank you my friend.
Always enjoy watching you every time Trevor. Very nice video showing the capabilities of the MagBox. And keep going strong with the the 'How I Shot It' series. Perhaps you could interview Neil Redfern sometime...awesome photographer from the UK that loves MagMod. Cheers from Minnesota.
Great Samples For using upcoming Magboxes... 👍🙋♂️ so excited get my Magboxes 😁😁

Great video! Thank you.
Awesome, keep them coming. The key is the flexibility of the unit and the how to. You could have the best gear, but if you don't know how to use it. The product becomes useless bc of the users.

SmartShot you are too kind. 🙏
Nice images- BUT- for many of the setups a bare head with a mag grid and/or gel would have produced the same results without wasting flash power in the soft box. Any of the back/edge lights could have gone ‘bare’, and even key/fill lights when they were far away. (Such a small soft box will only give you a softer light when it is within a few feet of the subject -physics!) I love MagMod products-but with small flashes outside you gotta use them properly!
@dayleyhighlights

Robert Altman absolutely. Because the box was already setup I just kept everything together but you are 100% correct that the light behind them didn't need to be modified.

So you think that some of this photos can be achieved with one speedlite without softbox...I have only v860ii with gidix 60x60 softboxes
@MagnetMod

The softbox will help soften the light by providing a bigger light source through the diffusion panel.
Nice shoot

Best video ever!!! Can I achieve these kind of shots with only the sphere or grid etc? My clients know me as a natural light photographer and I wouldn't want them to feel uncomfortable with 2 boxes firing at them for a couple of hours.....???
@MagnetMod

Thanks Lourika, you could achieve a similar look, but the softness of the light is dependent on the size. The MagBox is larger in size so it will create a softer light.
awesome video. what lenses did you use?

I have a variety of different lenses, but my favorites are the Canon 135mm, 85mm, and Sigma 35mm.

Hey Trevor you have out done yourself again, love the new magbox 24's. Can not wait for them to come out to Australia. I currently own 2 x V860ii speedlites. Will the Magbox 24 fit the AD600pro studio monoblocks? Can not wait to see your next videos. Thank you Mark from Australia

Hi Trevor, thanks for that love watching the Magmod videos, always learning new things with the magmod gear.
Can you please share the Camera Exif and strobe power you used for getting those sky details?
@dayleyhighlights
5 жыл бұрын
Which photo Yadnesh? For strobe power it's hard to say since our cameras don't record it. But usually when I am shooting while the sun is out with flash I will put them at pretty high powers - like 1/4 power or 1/2 power.
Do you use both flashes in each box for these photos?
Did you do ettl or manual flash what power and setting.
Public: @3:19 - Trevor means to emphasize that ETTL/TTL will throw a lot of flash to your scene.

These were Flashpoint Zoom Li-on R2 / Godox v860II and some Godox AD200's.
Thank u for this video. Did u have 2 ad200 in one softbox? Is one not enough for what u were doing? Also can u link the lightstands u are using...they look very sturdy especially when u do t have an assistant
@dayleyhighlights
5 жыл бұрын
Dania Ahmad thank you. One could be enough many times but since I have four flashes I will often times toss two in the MagRing just so I can fire them both at lower powers thereby allowing me to shoot them at quicker recycle times. Also just so I'm ready if I ever decide I need more power.

However in this video there is a stainless steel color Neewer stand as well. I don't recall the model number. I'll look it up. It was very inexpensive so I bought a couple to try out.
Trevor, question- so in a real wedding situation, where do you choose to begin with a speedlight in your magbox situation? 1/256? 1/128?
@dayleyhighlights
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Wendy, it depends on the time of day that it is. If just after sunset then yeah usually 1/128th. But if just before or at sunset when it's still a little bright out I will start usually around 1/64th or 1/32nd. It also depends on how far away I am placing my light and whether or not I am using one or two flashes. So lots of variables. But hopefully that helps a little.
I had used Godox AD200 bare bulb photography with a soft box. What I noticed is that my bare bulb had fused twice. I don't no why, but I had to purchase it two times. Now I am scared to purchase another one. Is it because I had used at full 1/1 power may be for continuous 3 to 4 shots, or could there be some other reason.
@dayleyhighlights
5 жыл бұрын
D.Y. Patil Polytechnic. Principal thanks for the question. I'm not super sure how to answer it though. I've only used the fresnel lens attachment on my AD200 not the bare bulb. Maybe reach out to Godox and see if they can help. I bet that has been frustrating for you.
I knew you were LDS!!!!!!! 😁😁😁😁

They did. I have done this type of shoot on a few different occasions. Some couples will choose to do it a few days before the wedding as well.
Interesting watching these videos now.. in ALL the past MagMod videos Trevor always goes on and on about how "I threw away my softboxes once I switched" but now they make their own... suddenly there's a use for softboxes again.. hmmm Not knocking the product or Magmod, but interesting..

Hey ftbalz! Thank you for your comment. The real point is that until the MagBox, soft boxes were very difficult to set up! Our goal is to make awesome photography easy! It took us over three years to develop our MagBox, we wanted to have other options before that :)
@dayleyhighlights
5 жыл бұрын
It's actually been taking some getting use to shooting with a softbox again. Previously I never used one because setting them up was just too cumbersome. So to compensate I'd just move my light back a little further and a little less to the side (closer to me) and used only MM modifiers. But now that in l've had a chance to use the MagBox it had renewed my interest in using softboxes on shoots. Mainly for two purposes. One to get the light in closer and get those soft shadows on occasion. The second is using the MagRing and putting two flashes side by side for either faster recycle times or extra flash power if I see a reason for it. I'm still not entirely accustomed to using softboxes again but each shoot it's working it's way back into my system.
@RolandoCocom

@@MagnetMod I think magbox needs to promote both type of products. Lately, they have over prioritize the magbox. I would like to see more tuts on the previous system on the channel.
Backpack hug 🤣
Did you use or have to use HSS since you were underexposing the backgrounds?
@dayleyhighlights
5 жыл бұрын
Michael Miller I didn't for these because it was still so dark outside. In the video it's hard to tell how dark it was because of how good videos can now shoot in low light. But my flashes do have HSS in case I ever need to use it.

Many thanks Trevor ! I like your videos so much ! Here is my question : I own 2 Godox AD200 and wanted to know if (in a brighting day and at the same positions than your 2 softboxes in the video) you think that I could only put an AD200 in the Magbox and the other one inside the second normal softbox (which is not a Magbox). Or would you put both AD200 inside the Magbox and use a normal speedlite (Godox 685) with the second softbox? I would prefer(for common reason) the second solution. Last question : could I use instead of the second softbox my magsphere for the second light source? Many thanks , Olivier
