Alright guys serious question time! I might have changed my mind about one of the boards in this video. First go check out Voxlink, the guys who built it are friends of mine and it's really worth our support: www.kickstarter.com/projects/constantinegreanias/vox-link-a-local-tabletop-game-finding-social-app?ref=7661v3 So as I set up the photoshoot for the thumbnail, I was scattering some old trees around the green riverbank 4x4 and I really got inspired to start mounting them to the board and just give up all hope of making it suitable for scatter terrain. WHOA, did you go look at Voxlink? I'm not kidding it's genuinely an epic app. Go read the KS page for me. But yeah, should I add trees and maybe some little cliff sin permanently? Or keep it suitable for scatter terrain? I could even carve in more rivers and really lean into it. Keen for your thoughts

You could go one of two ways… one is just trees around the water and have some lean over the water as they have their roots half way in the water. Which I think would look epic and like infantry could cross over by going in the tree and take a jump test on the other side. Or make it more of a riverlandscape which could lead to very strategic gameplay as there at few ways to cross and engage the enemy….

Tip: Next time you cut yourself just use superglue to hold the cut shut. Chefs trick.
As you were putting the white wave treatment on the calm Osgiliath water, I had my hands in my head thinking that you put too much and that you had ruined it. I was so wrong. It's sublime, literally alive

Thank you Charco!!! It was a roller-coaster for me too haha
Maybe add a thick spread of lily pads over the nastiest parts of the river pour to cover up the worst of the bubbles? You just need several hundred tiny tiny green circles 🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢🟢
That wave effect is insane, what a contrast to what I thought was an already amazing resin pour. Wow! Fwiw you see streams get all frothy like that in real life, so don’t think it’s a total disaster. It is normally after a heavy downpour though, rather than gentle eddying current…

This. River near a place I spent my summers as a kid had a small waterfall - maybe 2-3 meters tall. One time after heavy heavy rainfall that place had like a meter thick foam in places from all the churning water.
jeezus did the waves just catapult osgiliath into the best board ever made, fckng brilliant...

Ah thanks mate, but it is CRAZY how much better it all looks
Creek could be easily saved by taking a sharp gouge (for wood working) and scooping off the bubble layer. Then just fill these dips with a splash more resin. Any obvious level difference from the new pour could be covered with more mod podge and it would look perfect 👌
@nekrataali
Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. You could also mix in some flock with the new resin to make it look like algae if you don't want to try and match the colors.
I remember visiting a model railway show when I was a kid and seeing that a guy had made a resin pond. It looked so realistic. I've always wanted to do something similar. Really cool video

Thank you buddy! I've got some really nice ones coming up soon I'm so pumped :D
Pouring resin is stressful haha But no doubt about it , looks absolutely amazing ! Only way to fix the bubbles problem is to use a dremel sanding bit to sand out the bubbles then re pour a little resin in on top, time consuming but would be virtually perfect after that...
@Zorpazorp
Жыл бұрын
I thought about it by I thought maybe the seam would show where the two layers blend? Maybe I should do that and then if it doens't work try the wave form thing?
@Nat1videos
Жыл бұрын
@@Zorpazorp It would need to be a fine sanding bit and you would have to pour slightly over... so fill the gaps where the bubbles where and also spill over and give the whole thing like half a millimeter extra resin. Then once you add your modpodge ripple effect I think it would be invisible.. With any fix there would be a certain degree of noticability I recon, but this would be close. I have done it before on smaller projects. I'll post you a video link with a time stamp on discord for reference ;)

This was my guess to. Time consuming for sure but at least its a very shallow pour.
If Resign couldn't look awesome enough, you brought it to life! Most realistic water effects I have ever seen, wow!

Dude.... Osgiliath looks mental. So good!
Dude I have no idea how I missed that terrain video that you said no one saw. I literally watch everything you post, and I have no clue how that one slipped by 🤦♂️😂
Suggestion: a farm connected to the rural area. It would also be cool with a botanical garden
You've never seen a Spring time river full of fish seamen have you? The bubbles are very realistic.
Seriously, if people out there haven't watched the Mark of Calth videos, you really should. They put a lot of work into them, and they look great.
For future reference flex paste stops epoxy leaks very well! Many prominent woodworkers who make deep pour epoxy river tables use it. Love the videos!

Oh my I need to check this out!!!!!
No first aid kit? That’s a paddlin’ Edit: as a freshwater ecologist by trade, a lot of little rivers with gravel beds tend to have boatloads of riffles in them. Just sections of river with rough beds and not that much water depth, they are pretty much just really shallow white water. Perfect river habitat for covering bubbles. Also don’t underestimate how much bubbles and foam are produced by a river naturally. The river is not beyond fixing as you say, it may even look more natural by doing so. Something for the auction winner to consider though.
@Zorpazorp
Жыл бұрын
Ah that's such a good thought, it's not just the flow speed and near surface obstacles, but the river bed too! Fascinating, thank you mate.
Mate, that ripple effect looks amazzzzziiinnngggggg!! inpirational as always, awesomely consistent, and all the best with the move to NZ
Lachlan, Lachlan, Lachlan ! The most basic of first aid kit in that garage was certainly the superglue applicator in your toolkit. Remember, if it was good enough for medics on the beaches of Normandy to hastily suture wounds, it should be good enough as a fast fix for demented terrain makers playing with utility knives on the parking lot. For more conventional kit items, I keep in the toolbox one or two of those new "second skin" bandages. They do wonders on very stretchy skin parts like you know... hands and they help a lot to reduce scars if like me you love sticking X-Acto blades in your unfortunate pinkies as I often do...
You could try to build some floating algae on top of the bubbles? The creek in my hometown often has a green layer above the water.

I don't care what kind of terrain building is happening, the first thing should always be: Put the first aid kit to an easily accessible place. Talking as someone who has played with knives since I was a kid, it does not matter how good or safe you think your process is. When using something sharp, bad stuff will always happen as soon as you think nothing can happen.
