Back in the early sixties, when Jeopardy began, my father wrote to the station, seeing the address as credits at the end of the show, saying contestants were given a board game version of Jeopardy as a parting gift, wondering if he could buy one for our family. He got one and when we played it during picnics along the Niagara River other people would come over to watch and get into it. We made up our own cards to make it interesting as Scottish Canadians and kept it going for years. Only once, in my entire life, watching it on TV, with Alex Trebek, did I get every question correct for the first half of the show. Am I ever glad I had witnesses.

There is a bar in New Orleans where a lot of the folks from Tulane University hang out, down on Decatur in the French Quarter. 6 days a week when Jeopardy comes on the huge horseshoe bar becomes silent. Folks start chiming in with the questions, but not in a question form, so they can get it in before the contestants buzz in and respond. For final Jeopardy, a beer pitcher is passed around, with slips of paper and pencils for your question, and everyone puts in a buck. I got a big haul once, splitting with one other guy. We were the only 2 there who new that there was a senate seat open in Tennessee because Al Gore was now Vice President. Good times with our dear friend Alex! Thank you so much!

We took over care of a Rottweiler (dog) that Trebec was slated to be the original owner of. He rejected it. It was of superior breeding (size, temperament), but it had an over-bite, so it wasn't show-worthy. Its name was Alex after Alex Trebec. Great dog.
