It's more complicated than that, actually. Because each hit gives 2-4 pearls, more hits mean you're more likely to get the average drop (3) So it's not just that you get 3x the number of pearls, it also means you're much less likely to get not enough pearls.

It's a bit more complicated indeed. Let's say you performed 10 trades on 5% chance. Your chances of getting pearls in 5 out of 10 would be 252*0.05^5*0.95^5 ~= 0.00006 or 0.006 percent. Now let's say you have 15% chance, then getting pearls 5 times out of 10 will have a probability of 252*0.15^5*0.85^5 ~= 0.0085 or 0.85%, which is about 139 times bigger. Probabilities are funny sometimes.

It's annoying that Dream stans blindly defended him regardless of Dream said. The MC Speedrunning mod team were out there doing actual research and difficult math solving into the whole situation, and then there were people who blindly disregarded the research and stood by their first opinion. But sadly, this is the internet and that's how 90% of opinions are formed. Even when Dream posted his video with his own failed math and probilities, chances were still against him at 1 in a million. It's surprising how many people thought that the run still being legitimate was plausible.

Sad thing is: I personally think it is possible to forget a mod in the folder while recording - but not after people start pointing out the weird drop rates to him. All the people that continuesly argue for this basically call Dream a goldfish-brained idiot while trying to defend his obvious lies. (Which is kind of sad and funny at the same time, not gonna lie) If this really would have been an accident, he'd have noticed once the accusations started and would have instantly apologized.

@@theo_comics814 There's an argument that crops up in the context of defending cheating accusations that goes something like, "Why would (this person) cheat, they're so good at the game! Why would they risk so much?" But we see time and time again that the motivation often comes from the player getting frustrated by RNG or other mechanics, and because they have the technical skill to perform all the tricks and such, they start feeling that they "deserve" the time they're going for, and they cheat to shorten the grind and get the time they "deserve".

I still find it so funny that he’s trying to say “I didn’t know mods were on” after he so desperately tried to prove his runs as true. I can’t believe people are falling for that

Let’s not forget that Ant has newer strategies than Dream did at the time. The big one being using bastions, since it means Ant can complete a LOT more trades than Dream could’ve back then. Using the mod with modern strats makes the cheating very obvious, because a lot more trades happen.

"Accidentally cheating", don't make me laugh. That dude knew very well about his mods. He's just mad he got caught cheating and tries to lie his way out of it for the past year now.

SmallAnt got 13.5 minutes in 2.5 hours of trying with the cheat while Dream got 19.5 minutes with the cheat. SmallAnt was almost as fast without cheating as Dream was with cheating. It shows that SmallAnt is the better speedrunner by far.

Dream is a dipshit but if he had genuinely done this by accident and when someone pointed out that it was basically impossible responsed with something along the lines of "oh yeah I was cheating by accident, let me remove my run" or whatever, it would have been fine. His reaction to being called out made it clear that he cheated on purpose but even if it actually was an accident somehow his reaction is what makes him a douchebag not the accidental cheating.

“Accidentally” has on a plug-in that helps him with the most difficult aspects of RNG for a speedrun

Bad luck on the enderpearls or blazerods could've killed it (Or at least slowed it down enough to negate the saved time), though it does look like a REALLY good seed in terms of everything's locations.

@@icycloud6823 The mod only increases the drop rate from 5% to 15%, so a 3x increase. He said he had over 70 after the trades. Even with less than 1/3rd of those, he would still have gotten over 20 which is way more than you need. You only need about 15 ish on average. Honestly, his run would have only been about a min or two shorter withe the mod turned off, probably around 15 min or so, as the only Mod related RNG he got that REALLY mattered was the Blazerod RNG, as he almost definitely would have gotten enough pearls from the piglins without the mod with this seed. Definitely would have still been a very strong PB.

I believe its possible to forget you had a mod in your mods folder, especially when you use lots of mods. where dream went wrong was when he assumed people were unfairly attacking him and lashed out when he should have just checked his damn mods folder and said "shit my bad" and the whole situation would be over and done with

Dream should’ve just said that he accidentally left a mod/plug in on from one of his man hunt series and been done. @@btugvd if he only "accidentally" cheated on the one run, he would have never gotten caught. He only got caught because he kept the mod active during livestreams and math nerds ran the numbers. If he cheated the one run, the "dream was lucky" claim would have worked but Dream would have us believe he averaged one item 3x the drop rate, and one 1.5x the drop rate across 50+ virtually consecutive runs.

Reminder that he didnt admit it for MONTHS, allowing continuous harassment of volunteer src mods before deciding to admit it

While the mods provided solid proof that his runs weren't on an unmodified version of Minecraft. He could've just straight up said "oopsie woopsie, was making a video for KZread forgot to remove the mod, please disregard the times" and he'd have been fine. Hey man, it looks like you retracted your replies to me, I assume because maybe you saw the pastebin thing. No hard feelings, but in case you didn’t see it - it’s still up and you can view it. He didn’t include any drop rates in it. I just assume that this isn’t the same mod, but instead a similar mod just because the drop rates seem even more exaggerated than Dream’s speed run in question. Although he obviously cheated and had much better luck than he should have, I don’t remember it being THIS good. Like, I don’t remember dream ever having a ridiculous amount of pearls or eyes like that. This dude filled up his inventory with them in a couple mins, which I don’t remember happening in Dream’s speed run. Either way, entertaining video for sure.

Assuming that at the time Dream's main theme was "MC with a twist" it makes sense that he might have forgot to remove that mod. However I agree that this isn't an excuse to the fact that he cheated. Like, if you are speedrunning a game where certain rules apply, then it's your duty to check that you don't break any.

@cat snake pretty sure you meant eye breakage, but what im trying to say is this all could have happened in any good run. a good run is going to have no meaningful eye breakages, its going to have good rod drops, its gonna have fast pearl drops. the mod simply made these good runs happen more. also, the difference in strats. the advantage it gives is night and day with old strats and new. with old strats, it meant having a higher chance of getting the pearls you need in a timely manner. when used with new strats, it means you get stacks upon stacks of pearls.

So basically SmallAnt is better than Dream at speedrunning

Someone said it'd be 13 minutes 32 seconds in chat before the dragon perched. They were so close.

Doing this just shows how theres no way dream, an EXPERIENCED minecraft player, didn't notice something was up. He either cheated intentionally, or noticed it during or shortly after a run and just went with it.

That FireRed Pacifist run just taught this man that he had it in him to stream, edit and upload content by himself in one day. He's grown too powerful.

As someone who has edited streams for other people, a majority of the time is sifting through the stream to find the more engaging/interesting parts and try to string together a video with them so I imagine it's actually kinda 5head to edit while the events of the stream are fresh in your mind and you know the story you want to tell.

edit: funny how I'm getting more hate for expressing the same opinion that karl jobst expressed in his newest video. Smants reaction is not the best way to compare, as smants fully knows he had increased rates and was doing this for a video. I also believe dream and smants did different strats. Dream never used a bastion, instead he mined gold in the nether. This means instead of getting pearls all at once, it would take while to mine gold then trade and then mine more gold.

As someone outside of the Minecraft community who mostly gets his updates on speedrun community drama from Karl Jobst, I bothered to read Dream's entire text. So as someone who's neutral to it, it gives me the impression of a dude who let his ego and emotions get the better of him and burnt bridges and trust in the process. Which I can relate to on a human level because afaik Dream got incredibly popular within a short span of time and that can screw with everyone's mindset. Part of human psychology, really. Note I said relate, not excuse, those are two different things, he still effed up hard. So yeah, I believe him when he says it's an accident and he let his emotions cloud his critical thinking. And I also say he should stay away from speedrunning any game for at least a year because time needs to pass now to cool everybody down, and after that there will still be reasonable doubt cast on him if he tries to speedrun again and I can't blame the speedrun mods for having doubt in the future. Right now, neither being a fanboy or being a hater helps the situation.

Pff, people in here claiming it might really be an accident. He's spent the last what, six months saying he didn't cheat, going to the extent of hiring an astrophysicist to do the math for him, and didn't think to, I dunno, check his files to make sure the mod he was testing was still on? He'd have to be living on a diet of lead paint to not draw the connection between unreal luck, and the mod he was testing just before hand to give him unreal luck. He's either lying, or so stupid he's lucky to have survived childhood.

Didn't the speedrunner admins ask for his game files? He must've "accidentally" removed the mod from the files before sending.

@@freshlymemed5680 He did in fact claim to have accidentally removed the mod. Dream said he is always messing with his mods folder and that by the time the moderators asked for his folder he'd already changed things. Pretty convenient. 🙄

Gotta love how he "accidentally" used a mod. After doing all the shit he did to "prove" he didn't cheat before entertaining the slight possibility of a mod altering his chances. No fucking way he didn't cheat on purpose. It's honestly disgusting that people still defend him for this.

i’ve been wondering this for so long!! seriously i’ve always wanted to know just how easy a speed run could be if you cheat but i never thought anyone would actually do it goddamn

I dont know where to put myself between: dream stan | believing he cheated intentionally I believe that Dream did accidentally cheat, but didnt have the guts to say it worried that he might get canceled. I mean, if I were in his situation, I would shit myself knowing I accidentally cheated. I would've done more action faster though like removing my speedrun, trying to do another one, publicly apologizing, stuff like that. It is kinda Dream's fault, but also not. I dont know to be honest

He claimed for months that he didn't even know how to HYPOTHETICALLY load a mod or datapack that would do this exact thing. When he was literally a programmer before a youtuber, and had mods for this all along for his other content. Also, other professional minecrafters noticed this discrepancy literally while watching his runs live. You think Dream, someone highly experienced in minecraft speedrunning who specifically *complained about 1.16 RNG* wouldn't have noticed across 6 streams after coming back to 1.16 that his luck was completely insane? Wouldn't have even thought to investigate it before he (a) submitted the run, and (b) spent literally two months from October to December (before geosquare's video even came out!!) harassing the mods and accusing them of clout-chasing? He is obviously a chronic liar and anyone who still doesn't see it is either 12 or a moron. Edit: to be clear, smallant is not 12 or a moron, he is literally just pretending to believe Dream so that he doesn't get death threats from Dream's absolutely toxic fanbase.

Well first he was trying to refute it, which doesnt mean he's automatically right but it did raise the need to an investigation etcc. Him admitting it cuts all that stuff out, even if it's wayy down the line. l'm not saying it couldve gone either way before he admitted it (there was pretty clear evidence his luck was too perfect), but it's still prettier overall for him to admit guilt l'd say :]

I've said this before, but there should really be a category for having better luck. People can make mods that can change the drop rates of any item for any mob, as long as it is something that the mob can normally drop. Call the category Dream%.

I dont think he's necessarily afraid. He just doesn't want to talk about the drama. Like he said in the video. If he wanted to state that Dream is still lying (which let's be honest is most definitely the case) he'd need to back that position up. But he doesn't want to, so he just let's it slide for the purposes of the intro.

Small part of me thinks it was accidental and he's just a complete and utter moron. Randomly posting that tells me it either crept up on his conscience or he found out a day before and was like "well...shit". Just seems odd to me since he could have kept the illusion up for as long as he wanted but he didn't. Just a weird situation all round.

@A B yea but that's the thing. A bunch of people definitely believed he had mods but I like many were already over it. People were obviously still memeing about it but the amount of people still going after him about it would be ridiculously small. Coming clean out of the blue just doesn't strike me as the right play if he was 100% lying. It's weird man.

to the people that also play gacha's with me, we ALL know what a TINY increase in a percentage gives us. I remember flipping through gacha's and sometimes when I would find one with a SLIGHTLY higher margin (such as .5% -> .75%), you EASILY notice those changes. I can only imagine what increasing your luck from 5% -> 15% or 50 -> 66.7% could do...oh wait, I dont have to imagine *looking at a 6 minute time difference from his PB to his Dream% PB*

Not that I don't agree with the sentiment but just because something happened at a twitch trivia game doesn't mean it applies literally anywhere else

His cheating confession is like sorry but my cat stepped on my keyboard and accidentally turned on the mod

I can see this as a way to practice later parts of the run more often.
