I knew I’m not the only one lol

Pentatonix did an amazing job bringing out the drama in the song. Kirstin really put her acting skills to work in this beautiful performance to capture the frustration, pain, anger, hopelessness, etc., that a person would feel in that situation. They knocked this one out of the park. FUN FACT: On 3-31-23, Scott, Kirstin and Mitch received stars on the Walk Of Fame in Arlington, TX, in front of the theater where they performed in musical theater as kids. They had just wrapped the first leg of their world tour in New Zealand so they could not attend the ceremony but some of their parents were there.

You can literally hear and see Kirstin's heart breaking. They are such an exceptional group, just unmatched.

It's always a treat when Kevin brings out Beyonce. Cello-boxing and singing in 1 song. Great reaction.

Scott, Mitch and Kirstin did musical theater when they lived in Arlington Texas as kids and teens, and Kirstin did 'Kinky Boots' on Broadway for a few months. They also did an episode of Bones on TV. They played singers so it wasn't a stretch but they do have experience acting which helps in their performances. In this video they were trying to convey a people in a painting. They were very still when they were singing which is very hard for Mitch and Scott. Scott is about white knuckling the chair.

They all effectively echo the tone and timbre of the cello.

It is funny how they can take a song that I wouldn't necessarily have in my playlist and make me love their version

This video's both bleak and beautiful. Their voices are so plaintive, the lyrics are heart-breaking, Scott and Mitch look exhausted, Avi looks drained to the point of numbness, Kirstie looks as if she's about to burst into tears...and Kevin's cello-plucking sounds like a slow, sad heartbeat. ~sniffle~ (Dammit, where's my Kleenex?)

Love PTX, I STRONGLY recommend checking out Kevin's solo work as well. He does a cover of Down by Marion Hill that leaves me gobsmacked every time. He goes by KO

This group is beyond talented. They are amazing. I only found them a bit over a year ago. My mind was blown when I realized this was THEIR vocals! I have since been to see them live……again truly amazing!

Loving your Pentatonix journey, they always deliver. While they’re all phenomenal vocalists, it’s their arrangements and musical interpretations that take it to the next level. Kirstie kills this lead with so much emotional gravitas, Scott & Mitch supporting and Avi’s gorgeous vocals + Kevin’s celloboxing are so so good 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Facts

Definitely still says something to me despite the number of times I’ve seen it. Kirstie and Kevin made this one truly special.

Urban legend says that Kirsten had an eye infection which is why her hair is half covering that eye. Second urban legend is that Scott had to grip the backs of the chairs with a death grip to stop himself from 'talking/singing ' with his hands, which he does all the time.

This is my very favorite Pentatonix song. Rips my guts out every time.

They call themselves a band because a band has instruments and their voices are their instruments. This was filmed during their 2014 tour. Adding to my requests of 'Rise' and 'Imagine' I expect since you have a young daughter that you are familiar with "Frozen" Superfruit (Scott & Mitch) with Kirstie have a very fun Frozen Medley. As a newer video, I would appreciate your reaction to 'Be My Eyes' written and led by Kirstie.

Hey Wolli, really enjoyed your reaction and I’m so happy you are smitten with Pentatonix. One thing you said I want to emphasize: The human voice IS a musical instrument. Classical composers (Handel, Mozart, etc) all treated the voice with no mercy, when they wrote for the voice they used 16th note runs at high speed, huge vocal interval leaps and challenged both the high and low ends of a vocal range. Pentatonix is blessed to have singers that have perfected their vocal instruments to be able to perform these musical gymnastics and we, as viewers, have the grace and privilege to hear them. Of course, I love all their music and your reactions to them! It has been said that Scott was holding on to those chairs for dear life. If you've ever noticed, he sings and emotes with his hands! This is young PTX, but always worth listening to again! Edit: I looked at your PTX playlist and see that you haven't reacted to "Can't Hold Us" or "Radioactive" with Lindsey Stirling. It says two are hidden from the list, so I apologize if you have. Also, their original "Sing" is a real fun song and involves a lot of their followers from around the world.

Now you'll need to hear Can't Hold Us Macklemore and The Beatles Imagine.

Kevin's cover (KOver) of Down is mind boggling!

I've had 4 children who were addicted to heroine, at the same time, and i could never give up, but i sure said this many times. They all got sober and are all wonderful now!

I think of Kirstie’s voice as a laser. Precise, always cuts through and never misses.

I saw this video for the first time 7 years ago. To this day every time I hear them sing it I still get chills.

If you like Kevin the the beatboxer you should look him up he doesn't cover called down just by himself you will absolutely love it it is insane

This always gives me chills. Along this same line are "Shallow", "Run To You " and "My Heart With You." Extraordinary harmonies in all of them.

Music does the same thing to me....goose bumps all over. They're amazing!!

In most musical circles the cello is said to be the closest instrument to the human voice so I Imagine that's why Scott can harmonize with it so beautifully.

This is my favorite of the videos where Kevin can showcase his training as a concert cellist and his unique blend of cello and beat boxing he called celloboxing. absolutely best for his talents. I love all PTX and Avi but this song gets you hard

Nice one! I just watched your Hi Ren reaction and suggested you listen to Avi Kaplan's solo music. He is not just a bass, his full vocal range is spectacular. Not only his voice but his songwriting skills are great too. I suggest Change on the Rise to start with. All the voices are Avi. Cheers!

Kirstie Meldonado is a mezzo-soprano. She can sing as a soprano or an alto. She sings and whistles like Mitch. She has a vocal range of 4 octaves E3-B flat

This is one of my favourites.

Pure joy.

Avi usually has to cover the bass line particularly in earlier years (I believe this is 2014 filmed during the European leg of their tour). A fascinating one because it is the first time Kevin got to play his cello with Pentatonix until then he played at concerts but the rest would leave the stage because of their acapella cred coming out of the SingOff competition. It was also the first time Avi was featured singing melody. He came to them with a college major in opera and choral directing and awards in jazz ensemble singing as well. Avi worked with Kevin on his voice while they were apartment mates starting out after SingOff since Kevin was an instrumentalist in both cello and saxophone. You should look at his From the Top television appearance with his saxophone.

A most excellent song. For me their amazing voices are only exceeded by them ALL being committed to creating the best song, without a lot of ego. They try different things like who sings which part to get the best result. They are also willing to try a wide variety of music genres and create so many unique creations. I don't think you have reacted to Havana, sexy song in my opinion. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies and Jolene ( with Dolly Parton) are their Grammys along with Daft Punk. I don't think you have reacted to Can't Hold Us and I love it.

Great reaction, I gotta say if I had to pick it would be hard. Can't deny mitches range, can't ignore Avis bass and Scotts range either. But Kristen has such a huge range and can do literally any song! And you can't forget the beat box that Kevin absolutely kills. If you want a surprise and hear Kevin do some rap check out their original Sing. But when they say cut at the end don't stop, it keeps going.

There’s your example of “cello boxing” by Kevin as he does double duty in this song. “Mitch Slapped” is the equivalent to/play on being “bitch slapped” (vocally). Continue to enjoy your journey.

Kirstie had an eye infection while recording this video. I really hope you do La La Latch soon! It's my favorite with Avi Kaplan as the bass. My favorite with Kirstie as a lead is Be My Eyes and Water. They are both originals that she wrote with a few of the other members. Can't wait to see more PTX videos. And Voiceplay has so many to choose from that are incredible!!

I think every Pentaholic has at least one song they’ve covered, but didn’t necessarily love the OG. This is mine. The breakdown in the middle is breathtaking. And Kirstie…sheeesh.

Their Daft Punk medley is amazing. Especially since it was recorded in a closet and a kitchen with black out curtains. They had $400 budget after something happened to their reservation for a studio.

My Favorite Things is a fun one to watch

Recommend their cover of Shallow.

Late to the party. Just like you, I enjoy PTX. If I want to listen to something calming they're one of the groups I turn on. Now if you want to trip on some more a capella, then try "Home Free" starting with Constant Man of Sorrow. In that song you'll get a lot of depth of variations.
