Zip fit liner with custom Silas insoles will change your life and that liner will last 800+ days you’ll just swap them into new shells and your feet will always feel amazing! Worth it, snowboard boots need to borrow some tech from ski liners

Which Zip Fits are you in? They're insane liners! The ones I've seen so far all seemed very thin around the ankle/calf, and I was worried they wouldn't take up enough room in my boots. I'm not surprised you like them. Would be cool to know more about the different models. I'm currently in Intuitions (aftermarket). Thanks!!

@@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel I’m in the Gara HV since I have thin ankles and have had no issues they’ve molded completely to my feet and I have virtually zero heel lift, you can always add more cork if needed too! The slightly tricky part is finding the right shell for them, in my ride Insano’s the dorsalis artery of my foot was very compressed causing my foot to lose circulation but I’ve since swapped them into my Vans Infuse and have had zero issues! The most comfortable my feet have ever been with amazing performance!

@@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel hey lars thought I'd chime in here since I like your channel lol... I picked up the zipfit gara HV for my boots too but haven't ridden them yet (next season)... The intuitions didnt work out for me, I found they didnt fit my shells properly no matter what I did.... I have low volume feet but and its close but the HV still doesnt have enough cork material for me as they come so I'm planning to add some to the tongues to get them dialed in (part of this is softboot shells having too much volume and not having enough low volume options or giving information about the last size like ski boots). I would prefer to get into a lower volume shell to begin with but ive tried all the brands and none of them are great

Pull'em tight / position where you want them / easy Velcro style / adds so much extra little snug to your boots... magical little accessories 👌👍

Great video! You guys are the best so much detail and history. ❤️ I remember in the early '90s, Puma shoes came out with the first disc, called Puma Disc for running shoes. Then, I think Boa started, as you said in 2001. I'm sure it's not the same company, but maybe Puma started it or they maybe the same group of people ? So on my Vans Infuse should I go down half size still (but not full size ) right ? I know vans already also size down a maybe 1/4 - half then regular shoe size already as I measure the insoles..

I’ve been riding Burton ion for the last decade, looking to switch it up next season, thanks to your great video 👍, hybrid looks good .Your comment about board, boot, binding set up as in stiff across the all three is no good ? Stiff board , med bindings , med / stiff boots etc ? If you could get techy with this topic could be fun for us old school riders looking at new tech set up. I lived out west for years my last season was at whitewater 2000 , now I have no idea why I’m out east lol in Quebec, we get good pow pow but the crust underneath plays havoc on any setup I think. Stiff boots on stiff binding on stiff board it’s preferred for most hard-charging soft boot carvers and even freeriding if you’re a heavy weight over 220 pounds. It’s not important for park in the same way but weight are a factor on gear. Most snowboard and gear are made for 140 lbs. For example I’m at 240 lbs with 11,5 boots k2 thraxis on flux XV binding on a stiff custom Donek flux 172 cm ww 29 cm an d that feels nimble and easy to ride. A korua CF 164 cm feels like a noodle in deep carvs in my weight. Just a thougt to have in mind. Thanks for a good video.

Guys. Thanks for another great video. I wanted to hear a bit more on what are the top drivers of a boot's response are. For context, I chatting with Dave D on how I wanted Step-On Photon flex but with a dual-zone BOA. He suggested I put the Photon liners in the Ion shell (easy fix for a pro!). I generally think of liners as the comfort part of the boot and less of the performance part. Any thought in general on how the liner would or would not contribute to softening a boot like the Ion? (Note, I've been on Ions for years before moving to Step-Ons.) Thanks!

Just buy an aftermarket liner in that case. The liner definitely changes stiffness of the boot setup. Also using any sort of strap like strap-ins works for making a boot feel stiffer.

I've generally been snowboarding in 9.5s while my street size is 10.0. Back in the late 90s I tried going down to 9.0 and it KILLED my feet and ankles. More recently the boot vids talk about comfort vs performance, hence my request for your thoughts on the matter. Thanks again!

The shop where I bought my Burton Ions says that heat molding will not improve heel grip, but that it only accelerates the break-in period and might actually make heel grip worse (I have narrow ankles and historically have trouble with heel lift). I am already using two j-bars... one on each side of my heel. Are they BS-ing me because they don't want to bother with the heat molding. Will heat molding help the boot better grip my foot?

Hi, I have Burton Ruler boots with a double boa system and I find that the inner side of my boot on the ankle bone gets really sore. Why is this? And how do I adjust the boa system to put less pressure there while still being not too loose around the top of the boot? Should I be running my boot looser at the top? I have tried backing off the boa that tightens the bottom section of the boot but this don’t seem to help at all. The only thing that seems to help is loosing the top boa section, but this tend to leave the boot feeling too sloppy 🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ Should I be looking for a lace up system instead to offer me a bit more adjustability in the tightness of the boot in different areas? Or is there some way of doing up the boa system that I’m not aware of to give me more flexibility in the mid boot section? Any help here would be appreciated as it really makes for an uncomfortable day on the slopes

Look for a set of J-Bars to add to the ankle area - this will add additional support in that zone . Angles on your board may also be adding to this , some adjustments there are likely needed !

@@tributeboardshop thanks so much for getting back to me on this. I will look at getting some of these J-bars and look at my angles from my setup too. Thanks for providing such great content

Haven’t watched the full vid yet but question. I’m relatively a beginner, we’ve been renting gear when we go but I’d like to have my own so I just have to rent a board. I wear vans daily for my tennis shoe, but when I look at the vans hi standard oG and pro, it says these are for intermediate to advanced riders. So the vans boots will be a poor choice for me or can I still wear them?

Perfect beginner boots - don't pay too much attention to those designations. Union Strata bindings with those vans and a jones mountain twin and you're set.

With step-ons you need a stiffer boot because the bindings add no additional support. Traditional bindings just give you more options like keep the boot looser and crank the binding down for stiffness at the same time. You just can’t do that as much with step-on.

BOA. Best for shoes that need tightening at different levels and tight. Ice skaters and cyclists (mountain and road) are important customers for them. They have a LIFETIME WARRANTY last I checked.

Honestly, a great video would be “how to buy gear, used vs. new” to help know what needs to be bought firsthand vs second. there is some stuff (ex boots) that just can’t be cheaped out on or bought used, but there is other avenues to put together a kit for a fraction of the cost (ex bindings, beginner boards).

Went from speed lace to Boa. There is nothing similar about it :P Basically you are going from primitive tools to space age tech. Whoever spends more than 10 days on the mountain/year should get a Boa boot. It will change your life. Now on my second pair after retiring the first Boa boots (Ride Insano 2012) with 9 seasons on their back. Once you go Boa you can never go back.
