Hey guys, just an FYI, Burton’s Directional Camber is way different from their S-Camber. The S-Camber was actually completely powder specific and featured camber solely under the rear foot with progressive rocker from the midline of the waist forward to the nose, and the upkick in the rocker was more dramatic beyond the front insert pack. I still own the 2016 Burton Barracuda(primarily for decoration purposes at this point since I have so many newer boards), which was the evolution of the older Malolo, and that board has the S-Camber. Truly it is a wonderful experience to ride an S-Camber board in deep snow, the Malolo that preceded the Barracuda was the first popsicle style board I ever rode in deep powder where I felt like I was riding a fish, except one that was capable of stomping landings when dropping off mini cliffs in the backcountry haha. The Barracuda got a way better core and lost around a pound in weight compared to the Malolo that preceded it. Honestly that board is still totally rideable today if I wanted to take it out thanks to Burton using their infinite ride process by that time but there’s so much new tech in the boards coming out now that I just keep moving forward and buying new stuff hahaha. The S-Camber boards were always kinda sketchy on groomers since it was basically rear steer only and just totally ridden off the tail on anything flat, but that’s not where those boards were designed to be ridden anyways. Those boards were just all out powder slayers. Even with the narrower waist lines that boards of that era inherently had compared to today, the design produced absolutely unsinkable boards that felt fun and surfy on the deep days. Anyways, Burton hasn’t made an S-Camber board for several years now and their directional camber is way different, it’s much more friendly to the groomer experience and making traverses for sure 😉👍🏼

I got a Jones ultra mountain twin last year. I love it! I was actually surprised how much I liked it I haven’t rode a twin shape in along time and I really enjoy the versatility of the board. Super fun, great pop if you aren’t afraid to load it. Definitely don’t go for the ultra unless you are an aggressive rider. I also ride a Jones flag ship and it was my daily driver for several years. Also an incredible board. I’d love to rip the GNU banked slalom. I have a Mullair pro model that I also love. I was so sad when they dropped Nico, he is missed on the pro scene. That guy has the best line choices and such a fun style.

Several weeks back my riding buddy of 39 years was talking about getting a new board to replace his Ejack, and asked what I thought he should pick-up ? I said without any question the Hometown Hero. After reading and watching some reviews then checking the specs on Burtons website I was sold on it. I stopped at The Hidden Wave in Burlington Wa. and checked out the one they had in stock, I called my buddy and told him they had one, but he told me he had already ordered a new Ejack. To make a long story short I ended up ordering the Hometown Hero in the 160, I think it will fit in my quiver between my 158 Stungun (a little soft) and my 163 Landlord. Knowing how stoked you two are on this board makes me feel I made the right purchase. Being a retired 57 year old now I still search for the fresh but also enjoy the heck out of a good groomer making turns like there’s gates on the hill, miss running gates. Always like listening to your board reviews and knowledge of the products, your knowledge is shown by you decades of riding. You have the Mt Baker banked slalom poster that I have been wanting to get tattooed on my forearm, I may have to have you send a high res pic of it

@@davidb7358 well I haven’t had a chance to ride the Hero in deep powder but the specs on it lead me to believe it will do just fine. The LL is a little over a inch long then the Hero and as far as flex, they feel real similar. With the Hero being a little shorter I feel it will perform a little better on groomers, but the LL also rips on groomers. The Hero is pretty much my go to board, but when (if) it dumps I’ll be grabbing the LL. Hope this helped

I thought the Frontier is stiffer and more directional/tapered than the MT making it better for all-mountain riding vs. the MT Twin is softer and more of a true twin so better for switch/park/freestyling? Great overview! Thanks guys. I'm in the middle of making a new choice for an all mountain board, and drove my K2 for 17 tears now. It's time to adopt the new innovative boards and experience the new techniques used now a days. Looking for a mid flex board, not top much camber (should i choose a Hybrid with both camber and rocker zones?) and I won't use ut in the park for tricks. I should have a width model because of my 10.5 _ 11.0 booth size. So tips welcome! My short list at the moment is: Jones mountain twin, New Summer Cougar, Lib tech apex orca or Capita Aeronaut. Anyone to help for choosing number 1? Thanks Robin

Hi Robin, I love the aeronaught , but too narrow for 10.5 - 11 boots. I have never had my hands on the never board you have mentioned, so I cannot comment on it. Apex Orca is amazing, and has that Camber line you have mentioned. That would probably be my 1st suggestion for you. Jones Mtn twin with many so many size options, you'll find a perfect fit. More of a standard camber, but with way smoother blends ( early rise ) compared to your 17 yr old K. I feel the Jones Aviator a closer match-up to the Apex orca.

Thanks @@markfawcett9654 My local shop advisor said the same as you did: orca or twin would be a perfect new episode after 17 yrs full camber board with NO smooth edges :-)... Because I prefer a flexy board and playfull style for the coming years, and will stay out of the Park, I have chosen the Twin in a smaller size than Jones advized by their own website table sizes overview. I'm 1.89mtrs tall, 86kg of weight, and booth side is even 12 US (after checking). The advisor told me to buy the 159W version (and NOT the 162W), and my StepOn Burton stance do fit and look okay (and awesome). I'll try in Austria at Jan 28th, so hope the best (buy) for me...

Great video and it definitely gives a flavour of what's out there. I see that Jeremy himself says the Jones Mountain Twin is most at home between 10 and 35mph. Does that apply to all these boards? Have you got a video for the top 5 all mountain boards (+1) that are most at home between say 35 and 60mph, or a few recommendations? It's not always apparent which is the next level up in a range of snowboards, or whether to do for intermediate or advanced when internet shopping and it's difficult for me to try out multiple boards so I'd like to narrow it down as much as possible. 6ft1, roughly 230lbs, CASI lvl 2, have ridden the Delirium Dive and survived. Will be riding in the French Alps this season though so quite interested in the magna traction type edging since I'm usually riding bullet proof polished pistes more than nip deep pow (not through choice).

GPS yourself…I highly doubt you are going as fast as you think you are…and definitely aren’t going those speeds as an average. It’s really tough to even get close to 50 mph. I’ve straight lined a whole black diamond run at marmot basin on an icy day first thing in the morning when it was cold and fast. Fresh wax. Scared myself as air was starting to lift the board and my gps said my top speed was 85 km/hr (52mph). Would have swore I was closer to 60mph.

Finally got around to watching this. I think you need to do one of your vids on sidecut radius and styles (radial, progressive, etc.) and how that aligns to carving and other riding. It feels like there was a trend of much smaller/tighter sidecuts for many years (think 6.0 to low 7s) that is moving back to larger sidecuts (8.0 +/-), which is my preference. My impression is most of the boards that Mark likes have larger sidecuts, but the HTH has a much smaller one. So other than the tight turn of a banked slalom, why pick the HTH? (Note, I found it harsh and unforgiving when I owned a 156.) For reference, I have been riding since '89 and seen a lot of trends come and go. Thanks again for these vids! They get the wheels spinning and keep the progression going!

So I actually have a theory as to what the idea behind mervin’s C3 camber is, I think the idea is to more evenly distribute camber as on a conventionally cambered board there’s probably going to be an area of low pressure between your feet

I have the 2020/2021 PYL...the one with the natural wood and moss green and white graphics. That board fucking rips. I have the 162 and it's a total monster. I have the Now Drive set up on it. I just bought last year's Banked Country and just ordered the Mercury bindings to set up on it. What wax would you recommend for the Banked Country? I'll be at Winter Park, Copper and A Basin all season with a few days at Boat. Like you duders, I've been riding since "92 when I was 15. Love being in the culture most of my life. It's a right of passage for sure.

I’ve watched a few of these type of videos and for the most part I really enjoy them and find them entertaining if not educational. However I find myself genuinely curios as to why none that I have seen ever mention Nidecker boards, specifically the ‘Ultra’ & ‘Megalight’ or even the ‘Gun’. Anyone who’s ever ridden Nidecker boards will attest not only to their sublime performance but also the innovative way in they approach snowboarding. I’m curious because they’ve been doing so for years and if you look closer, you’ll see that some of the boards that come up in these type of ‘Top Five etc’ videos are actually made in the Nidecker factory in Switzerland, yet the company’s boards are rarely if ever mentioned. If I’m not mistaken I seem to remember one of the top tier Jones boards at one point was made by Nidecker and might possibly still be the case, although don’t take my word for it. It really would add so much more credibility to these type of videos if they were at least acknowledged once in a while. I’ve been riding the Mega and Ultra for years. Each year I try other boards from just about any manufacturer worth considering and every time it’s the same, yea they’re good but nothing comes close to the experience I get from Nidecker boards. -Seal ✌🏾&💜

Probably because Tribute doesn't seem to carry Nidecker boards in the shop, only bindings. Don't forget that these guys run a board shop, and obviously part of the goal of these videos is to move product. I'm sure if you drop by and chat them up, they'll tell you about the Nidecker boards they've tested, but for their product picks, they go with the stuff they have in inventory.

Grill rides more like an older board. Very strong response off the tail, and lots of hold back there too. Older nose shape ( in a good way ) but with modern tec and that gorgeous early rise. I LOVE it. Best Burton board I've ridden since the crowsnest. Deep thinker and HH super similar in their riding. Easy to manuver in the tight spots. totaly swiss army knife...does it all really well. SOOO many size options with the HH, you can find an ideal fit. Deep thinker super similar HH, really just slightly different width dimentions and graphics.
