Sniper fires at Russian soldiers across Dnipro river

(21 Nov 2022) STORYLINE:
The Ukrainian military is bracing itself for a barrage of attacks on areas once occupied by Russia, as the frontlines in the south have shifted since Russia's retreat from the Kherson region.
After days of jubilation at Ukraine's recapture of Kherson city, occupied by Russia at the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022, soldiers and civilians say a sobering reality is setting in.
'Kurt', a commander for a military unit in the south and one of the first groups to enter Kherson, told the Associated Press that Russian soldiers are already taking their positions on the east side of the Dnipro river.
"Every day there is more and more shelling of the city. Especially the riverbank and outskirts. They started to shell more and more. And sooner or later this "bomb" will explode," Kurt said.
The attacks have already intensified. On Saturday a fuel depot was struck in Kherson. Last week, the city was hit by missiles twice in one day, killing one person and damaging an apartment building in a residential area.
While the goal for Ukraine is to push the Russians further back, crossing the Dnipro River requires complicated logistics, which have been made harder since both sides have blown up bridges needed to get across.
As Ukraine's military decides on next steps, it is trying to inflict maximum damage on Russian positions across the river.
Kurt - the commander - and his sniper unit sent up a drone over Russian positions. Lying on a table after hours of waiting, Kurt shoots at a Russian soldier more than 1,000 metres away.
"The bullet hit the target," he said, while watching the aftermath of the attack through the scope.

Currently, Russia's operation in the region has become a defensive one, according to several analysts and military experts.
Troops are constructing new trench systems near the Crimean border as well as some areas between the hard-hit Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
In some locations, these trenches are up to 60 kilometres (37 miles) behind the current frontlines, suggesting that they're preparing for more Ukrainian breakthroughs, said the UK Ministry of Defence.

Master quick scoper here ! Served in the Cold War back in the day in the 1930s. Quick scoping was crucial because we didn’t have the technology like today so men like me were hand selected for black ops, I went by code name Hudson. then you had your no scoper squads who were sent to Vietnam because they had to be more aware of their peripherals cuz VC could jump out at any moment. Knew a couple of those guys who went by call sign Woods and Mason. Good times but we lost a lot of guys. Just sad to see so many hard scopers nowadays

I'm not a sniper or a soldier. I am a shooter and a hunter. Is it good practice to smoke a cigarette from a sniper hide? It just seems pretty ballsy when there are likely teams of snipers and forward artillery observers on the other side of that river looking for you. I met a retired sniper who served in Iraq who told me he rarely fired his weapon because it often meant he had to move knowing that it gave away his position. He would rather call in an air/artillery strike on a target so he could stay in his hide. That seems even more advantageous once you consider low cost drones dropping grenades. Then again I don't know shit. I shoot at things that don't shoot back.

urban sniping in a whole nother ball game, especially in such a built up area, with a (albeit .50) suppressed weapon, and the Russian's lack of a sniper detection system, firing once and laying low is likely enough to keep you hide hidden, they'll know there's a sniper out there but take a look at any picture of a city and point out every place a sniper could hide, that's why the US poured so much money into sniper detection microphones and such.

You've most likely got zero idea on ACTUALLY HOW MANY of the weaponry that was shipped to Ukraine has ALREADY ended up on the black market, been less than an year, a gigantic wave of them is now entering/has entered some ongoing conflict zones across Africa. Those africans pay good resources for high quality tech like that. But if you're actually aware to an extent of how the world works, you would've been aware of the black market transitions that are to happen undoubtedly with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY and some people rubbing their hands, greed in their eyes and sight and saliva dripping down their chins from all the free money they're to encounter and have been encountering ever since the conflict has began (the black market weapon dealers). Wake up man . Zelinsky sacrifices his people for the goals of an unelected elite of globalists . This has nothing ... absolutely nothing ...to do with a fight for freedom . The poor people are been used as pawns . God be with them .

I may be wrong but I believe that is a .50 cal Barret sniper rifle. With a scope it weighs about 30lbs.
