I always appreciate...and love... That you educate me. I love painting furniture and giving existing items "new life". So many times, I have gotten in over my head because I didn't have the knowledge you have. I didn't understand "bleed through", how to deal with anything that wasn't solid wood(this includes veneer). Messed up A.LOT. OF beautiful furniture because I didn't know what I was dealing with! So saaaaad! I HATE that there are some creations that carpenters have put an amazing amount of quality work and love into, and I effed it up by going sander-happy and other newbie mistakes. I just hope someone experienced like you found them and made it a loved and appreciated piece of art in someone's home. I have a couple pieces still...I now have the confidence and know-how to fix them. Mahalo, boo!
I spent at least ten hours straight yesterday watching your videos (stopping only for meal breaks and a little stretch!). I have a small china cabinet where I have been keeping my esthetician products in. I have cleared the cabinet and excited to get started. I am learning so much from you. Problem is I just want to keep watching you than get off my ass and get started already!! Seriously, you are a treasure of info for decorative painting and love how you do it. Thank you very much. Wish you and your loved ones a very happy and healthy New year! I am now a huge fan of yOu!

How to identify veneer is very helpful. I didn't know they put veneer over oak. Yikes, why would they do that! LOL I have to fill for a few small missing pieces of veneer on a waterfall dresser and I have a stackable lawyer's bookcase that bubbled just a bit on top. I will try the method of putting glue in a syringe for that piece. Thanks for the suggestion and again for your super informative video!!

knichols65 so, if I was going to use a gel stain that was lighter yes, but anything dark say espresso and beyond no. Many time an oil based sealer won’t allow bleed through but a water based will for sure!!!
This might be a dumb question but does the gel stain have to go on raw wood or real wood
@BellaRenovare

NOT a dumb question, no you can put it over other surfaces as well :) almost like a paint but you need to give it plenty of time to dry in between coats to get a solid look :)

The crazy thing is it's the second piece I have had that was empire that had the dye, but they didn't seal it so even if I painted over it, it would have bled....whyyyyyy do they do that?!?!?! lol
How long do you leave brushes in a bag or do you clean after finishing your piece

Yes just until I am done with the piece, so a day or two at the most, as long as you keep it really well sealed you will be fine for the duration of a few day project :)

Alicia Cooley where do you live? Some pieces are suchhhhh a pain and will bleed forverrrrr normally in those situations you can go get spray shellac (if you are in the states) do a light spray on the areas with bleed thru and paint over
@BellaRenovare
3 жыл бұрын
Alicia Cooley also you can spot fix with BOSS. So you could put boss on the problem areas sand superrrrr lightly with a high grit like 220 or higher and paint over to keep everything smooth :)
