Nice job! I've had my Akorn for about 6 years and love cooking with it. It is very efficient. It's actually more efficient than ceramic Kamados like BGE. I'm in a FB group with some friends who cook with BGEs and they we're amazed at the efficiency of my Akorn. They have to refill the charcoal at least once during a low and slow brisket cook when I have coals left over after my brisket cooks.

I know exactly what you’re talking about and I have to agree. I had a BGE and the Akorn is twice as efficient as the egg. The Akorn is unbelievably efficient. You don’t need many coals lit at all to get it up to temps and the air dampers are almost completely shut …… sooooooo efficient!

Steve, I don't know if you've noticed this as well but it burns up all of the ash too. There's hardly ever anything in the bottom pan even after a couple of smokes!

Yep …. Exactly right. Very little ash and very easy cleaning when needed. They are an awesome smoker / grill. Be careful, condensation and water can collect in that bottom ash container and it might start rusting on you.

Thanks for the step-by-step videos Steve. Took me a bit to learn to get my Acorn set to a steady smoking temp. Appreciate the damper adjustment details, very helpful.

I've been wanting an Akorn Kamado for a few years now... really enjoy your clear and concise method of shooting your videos! Thanks! - I'm a seasoned griller/smoker with years of making great butts, ribs and chicken, but my offset smokers have let me down with so much temperature inconsistency that my briskets were never what I wanted them to be. Getting my Akorn this week (FINALLY!) and i'm soaking up everyone's video demos of this model to keep my juices flowing until i pick it up! Thanks again for your videos!

Good Luck with your Akorn ..... remember that these Akorns are sooooo effecient, unlike what you're used to. The Akorn doesn't require many coals to be lit and doesn't need much air to get up to 250° ......Bring it up to temp slow so you don't overshoot...... Have fun with it!

Thanks Steve! I just seasoned it yesterday evening, and this evening i grilled some boneless/skinless chicken thighs while i played around with the input and exhaust controls. So far it's exactly like your video's show. The grilled chicken was good (not that grilling chicken is difficult) - and I think I have a feel for her. Just used a small amount of Royal Oak Lump and as you coached, brought it slowly up to 225 and held it there for a good while. then i opened it up and brought it up to 350. and then backed it off while it very slowly went to 400. then i grabbed my chicken and grilled it (lid closed). did a few turns and flips and had some good chicken.

Awesome job ....... yep these things are crazy efficient, unlike anything I've ever used before. Don't need many coals lit or much air .... pretty amazing when you think about it. Happy smokin' & grillin'

I’ve found that placing the probe in the thigh gives a more accurate reading than placing the probe in the breast. It’s taken me a while to learn the proper way to accurately to adjust the temp. But now, I really enjoy my Acorn. Thanks for your vids.

Stevincent Hey good luck with everything and have fun with your smoker. There is a learning curve with the Akorn because it only requires very few coals lit to get up to temps and very little air. They’re pretty amazing smokers. Enjoy and have fun and most of all enjoy all that fantastic food you’re going to be smokin’ up!

Love the videos! I subbed a few days ago as I am going to be an Akorn Owner soon and trying to get ahead of the curve on the secrets of Kamado-type BBQ. Keep up the recipes as I will be watching. Cheers from Denver!

The Akorns are totally awesome! Very Efficient. Some people struggle a bit with temp controls, but I've never had any problems. If temp control would turn out to be a problem they sell accessories to help out with that too. I am very happy with the Akorn, especially at their price point. Not sure if you've found my WebSite yet ..... a lot of good info on there too. sites.google.com/site/smokinstevesbbq/home

there is a grate underneath for a drip pan, the cooking grate and a higher grate for keeping things warm that is farther from the heat.
