Smoking brakes | Stresses Mike | beautiful remote beaches | Fulltime Family. @Mahia
Smokey hot brakes, beautiful beaches and a windy lake, is what you'll discover in this episode. Some super stress from me with our hot brakes, I caught a trailer on fire when I was younger by towing with the handbrake on, and that smell always makes me feel ill.
Glad it was a very simple process to get the brakes functioning, properly and smoother towing from there.
Mahia is a pretty amazing location with quiet and mostly empty beaches. We made a few good friends here I guess like minded people go to spots like this.
Lake Tutira is an amazing spot if you like solitude, I did a 2hour hike / run into the hills and didn't even see one person, or a building on the trail.
It's been a couple of weeks since our last video, after 9 days away from the caravan for me. So we hope you enjoy this one.

Thanks team for watching along with us, highs and lows... Smokey brakes and magical locations.
Love it when the kids take over the camera, great memories for you all. Good you've got the brakes sorted, there are some steep roads in the south as you will know

The thought of the steep mountains down south already cause me to have nightmares... I remember the truck has down hill assist so I need to turn that on, as well as using the gears a bit more, caravan brakes got a little warm on a 200m desent yesterday
Beautiful part of the world ! Enjoy ...

Feeling pretty spoiled...I just live how few people there are it's very common to be the only people on the beach... But Christmas is the busy beach season here so next Week the city's will be quiet, beaches, lakes and rivers full of people through till Feb
Glad you figured out those brakes! I think the US lost a great opportunity when we allowed massive construction on our coastlines. The natural coasts there are beautiful. Wish we had more like that. And to have it all to yourselves! That doesn’t happen in the states either. But it does still crack me up that you think a 2.5hr drive is super far. PS - loved seeing Toby in the classic backwards tshirt, and tending a fire of course. Cool shelter the kids built.

Oh having untouched coast is priceless we are blessed to be able to have so much space and so few people... once we go to the South island it's going to get even quieter after the peak holiday season... there is only about 1 million people living down south and 4 million in the north island... the South Island is larger... the kids were very happy to hear you liked their shelter. 2.5 hours is coast to coast in some parts of new zealand its a long way to drive the width of the country lol...
Awesome video guys - both spots looked great. Enjoy the HB next 🤗

Today has been magic been awhile since we have had an awesome day though
We had the exact same thing happen!! Coming over the Gentle Annie Taihape to Napier road, scariest thing ever, had to pull over at the bottom of the hill for an hour as no brakes left on the ute as they were so hot, so we started just using the manual override as well. We contacted inside out who contacted WITI, we did the tests and turned out we had a faulty unit as alarm wasn’t working properly either, they sent us a new unit which is working much better but we haven’t done the calibration yet so might do that before attempting any more big hills.

Yea it's pretty scary when you can't stop, don't know how much down hill there is left and you can smell burning brakes, just such expensive gear if something went wrong with the ute or caravan or even worse an accident 🤔 Sooh says calibration is easy give Kev a call at witi
In land camping there is so beautiful omg😍

spent a bit of time in this area over the years, had an Aunty who lived in Wairoa, also done Waikaremoana, ran the trail around the lake in a day once, and had several other adventures out there, a wild and Awesome place. Didn't stay in Wairoa this time around as we were off to visit family in napier and spent a bit of extra time in Gisbourne with another full time travelling family we'd met.
Some people don’t understand how stressful towing is in general - let alone when you know somethings not quite 100%. I’m glad you got the brake issue sorted Some people are so entitled! The fact that the lady had the cheek to winge about you fishing in the spot she wanted to swim in… unbelievable 😂 wtaf 😆

Ha ,ha, cattle just Inquisitive, my cattle would have licked yous to death, Some beautiful camp spots ahead , glad you got brakes sorted, I knew inot enough voltage to brakes, In Australia a lot of flat country, so I have two settings one for slow speed town driving, one for highway speed ,so no lock ups, Cheers Bevan 🤠❤️🦘🦘🇦🇺

Hi Mike.I hope you get to have the brake seals checked after all that heat.I know some caravans have the Trojon brakeing system that the brakes automaticly come on when going down a hill then even out on the flat. You can also disengage them manualy if required.I never had any problems with the Trojon brakes on my caravans in the past.

Memories! Where you were camped at Opoutama, when I was a young fella was a motor camp in a pine forest, called Blue Bay. Lots of memories of the Beach Store, the tavern and Snapper Rock. Was that Morere Hill where you got the hot brakes? It took me a while to get my brakes right. Initially the caravan brakes kept locking up whenever I stopped. Scary for me and anybody near me! So back to the old stomping ground in CHB!
@leopardsgowild

Hey Owen, yep Opoutama, still a quiet spot to camp for free... Yes it was the Wharearatas' or something like that between mahia and gisbourne, steep hill for towing down... Brakes are much better now though... Yes we are in the old stomping ground....
Yea my g
Some grades on BC, Canada highways are 15% grade. Logging roads can be over 20%. So towing a trailer/caravan are not the roads to go on.

I really hate steep hills, up or Down, but mostly down, that feeling of not being able to stop is so scary, even the smell of hot brakes knowing things are over working makes me panic... 20% I couldn't imagine, we have the steepest street in the world in NZ at 19%, would never take a caravan on that.
