    Hey Johnny! Very cool that You got this set up for the Joe from our buddy Greg! So many possibilities with this, and I see from your Taco Video that You have already explored those possibilities by using the 1/4" deflector as a griddle plate. 👍 This Stainless grill grate is heavy duty and will last forever. No one out there is making a Stainless grate in this size.........Awesome build from Greg @ the Woodshed! 👍 Metal On! \m/

    I have the basket for my Smokey Joe, and I used a 12 inch Ceramic plate as my deflector I already had, I like the aluminum pan as a water pan or drippings catcher. I also found those screws work really well at stabilizing the basket. I did mod my SJ like yours to add the bottom vent and ash catcher, so that I can let it rip nice and hot, because those side holes are pretty worthless for high heat searing.

    I have a Smokey Joe and a Jumbo Joe and I can tell you the Jumbo Joe is superior in every way, the lid has a lock down like the premium Smokey Joe so it travels well and the 18” diameter is so much nicer to cook on yet when all closed up the storage size is negligible when compared to a Smokey Joe. Do yourself a favor and spend $20 more dollars, you won’t regret it.

    Sweet setup, I posted on Greg's channel asking if he still does this, but I'm curious if you might know? Seems like he's been dealing with health issues over the past year. I'm about to refurb a MiniWSM I built about 4 years ago, starting with the leg/grate mounting hardware -- it's literally rusted out to where I cant even get the bolts out, gonna have to dremel them.

    Hi 👋🏼 Johnny, after having this modification for a long time now, I was wondering what is the temperature on grate level. My concern is for the deflector working as grill plate instead of two zone cooking. I have a 22’ Weber kettle and i mostly using it as a smoker and I like this set up because I can utilize all the grate instead of half with the current set up.

  • @Viewtoagrill

    @Viewtoagrill

    Hello. I have this set up for my 22 and 26 am much kettle as well. The temp at grate level is really whatever you ‘set’ it to be through your normal temperature adjustments. I do have a video planned with this set up using the ThermoWorks Billows product planned for April.

    Hi Johnny. I am curious how the side air vents work with charcoal basket and deflector and if you are considering modding your Smokey Joe for a lower air intake?

  • @Viewtoagrill

    @Viewtoagrill

    3 жыл бұрын

    I did consider making a mod to allow more airflow from the bottom but I don't think I cam going to do it. It gets hot enough for me but I can see why some folks would want to get it hotter. Check out my Ribeye Street taco video, I actually shot it with a laser thermometer giving a temp.... I don't remember what it was but I think it was in the 400 range.

  • @hoerz
    @hoerz3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for sharing! I imagine that the airflow should be much better with the plate inside. Do you get higher temps using the deflector plate?

  • @Viewtoagrill
