Smoking on the Weber Smokey Joe You Can Smoke a Pork Butt

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Cooking While Traveling. Asking the little Smokey Joe to do the impossible. I would suggest that if you try this, get a boneless butt or de-bone it yourself before starting. This will solve the issues with fitting it inside. See us on Facebook: / backwoods.gourmetchannel

    I just tried my new Weber Smokey Joe. I used Kingsford Hickory charcoal. I'll never use a gas grill again.

    I got a knockoff version of the Smokey joe…. I’ve been wanting to do a pork butt, yet I’ve been reluctant cause I wasn’t sure if it was big enough…. I’m gonna give it a go…. Screw gas! You are correct about kingsford…

    Did 3lb brisket on no-name 14" grill with lump charcoal. Lid barely fit. I cooked for 3.5 hrs and the damn thing came out perfect! I call it the little grill that could.

    Looks great nice job , I also have a smokey Joe that I've cooked a pork picnic on ,I call it the mighty mouse . I've made some mods that are simple and can help in the elimination of ash build up get a can and puncture holes on the side and cover the bottom vent it will prevent the ash from choking air flow for the flame .

    I've started using my smokey joe again for just about everything now that I'm retired. I did a pre seasoned 3lb boneless pork butt @ a week ago and that size is about the largest that will fit comfortably on the smokey joe. It smokes as well as a full size 22in kettle, but you just have to go small.

    @@Cici1791 I actually don't have an 18 inch kettle but I cooked a 12 to 14 lb Turkey on my 22inch with excellent results. I would suggest one of those full size Turkey breasts 😋 would work well on an 18 inch kettle.

    If you had to do this again, how about taking out the grill grate and cook the pork butt in the pan directly on the charcoal grate next to the coals? I’d maybe use foil and wood chunks as a barrier to protect the meat from burning.

  • @l.baughman1445
    @l.baughman1445 Жыл бұрын

    why not circle the charcoal around the edge (even though it's smaller grill) and place the the cut into the center (more height on the lid)? Also, I've used Apple wood to generate the smoke when adding frozen Costco-obtained salmon fillets, put them frozen right on the grill over the coals, lid, and about 15-20 minutes (ish) had perfectly smoked and not dried out salmon. Oh, and I did that on the Beach. A pork roast smoking on the grill at the beach for an afternoon would be divine!

    This is more of a guide than a recipe. Your grill, weather, charcoal, meat is going to vary a lot. You just got to dive in and and give it a try. Pork butt is pretty hard to mess up unless it gets too hot.
