Very good review from a standpoint of transparency and honesty. I almost gave up on my Foodi streamer/air fryer/pressure cooker because of the cookbook that came with it. But now… my Mac and Cheese as found on KZread and my chuck roast with veggies as found on KZread are a hit with my wife. I have even successfully prepared chicken in an unorthodox method such that it only needs sweet and sour sauce and rice to be an Asian dish!

@tonyalbc4689

@@wildernessjunky6056 I think it would depend on how much you plan on using the appliance and how you’d like to cook in it. Most Ninja air fryers can air fry, sear & sauté, broil, dehydrate, slow cook, and bake. Not all of them can pressure cook, though. They are also varying sizes. I have cooked pretty much everything in one of them, including a whole chicken, bacon, steak, hamburgers, even baked biscuits. I use 1 of them as a griddle. Again, depends on what you want to be able to do. Hope that helps.

@tonyalbc4689

@@IparbuveszI don’t know that I completely understand your question. If you’re asking if you can open the appliance while it’s cooking, yes you can - unless, of course, you’re pressure cooking.
Thanks for the super helpful review! One thing to note: I don't remember all the science behind it, but adding extra water to a meat dish in the PC will always dry out the meat. I realize that is a separate issue from the wrong temp on the probe, but wanted to toss that out there so folks are aware of the issue that more water = drier meat in the PC. I could never figure out why my beef in the PC always turned out terribly, until I learned this and actually reduced the water. It takes way less than you think!

@@samthomas4700 Hi Sam. I must admit all the things you want to cook, I do the same in the Ninja 9 in 1 - but I bought a stainless steel pot from Amazon for the Ninja and it was the best thing I could have done. Not cheap, but worth the investment and keep the original one as a spare. The stainless steel pot in the new Instant Pot is exactly the same diameter as the one in the Ninja BUT it is not as deep - probably 2" less. I do large pots of soup and the Instant Pot would struggle with the amount I can get in the Ninja. So far I am impressed with the new Instant Pot, but haven't tried all the functions yet. It is worth investing in a meat thermometer with a long probe for roasting in the Ninja - I have one that is integrated with the Ninja XL Grill and it has been excellent. Enjoy your cooking :)

The difference between steaming v pressure cooking is anything that involves cooking with water/liquid will pull out nutrients from the food whereas steaming retains almost all the nutrients. So, if for example you pour away the water/liquid then steaming is the better option from a health standpoint. However, if you are going to consume the water/liquid with the food then the only difference would be the cooking times

Great review, love your honesty which makes it easier to see what went wrong however the diced Tom's burnt because it heats from the bottom when pressure cooking, like on hob, if you were cooking diced toms on the hob you would stir , to stop them sticking, as the bits of tomato sink to bottom. That is why the recipe is important, same with adding extra liquid when pressure cooking , a few floz here and there not too bad but an extra fifth to total, too much. Learnt this the hard way over many tries, but did learn eventually. As for the probe maybe you have a faulty one, been using mine for a year no probs, hope this is helpful , thankyou for great reviews.

I'm sure others have answered already, but the reason to steam over pressure cook is that steaming can leave it with a firmer vegetable, while pressure cook will leave them extremely tender, possibly too mushy depending on your preferences.

As soon as he mentioned the cooker had a proofing function and didn't know what it was I knew it was a nearly all in one bread machine as well as a mulitcooker. You still got to kneed the dough by hand but proofing is what gives breads their sponginess. When my InstantPot MAX craps out, this will be my next multi cooker.

It's great to see this version of the Ninja being thoroughly tested for most of its functions, including the internal thermometer. So I love the video! I have both the one with the thermometer and the one without. I totally appreciate you sharing how to use the thermometer because I was so confused. I love the stream and crisp function for chicken thighs, breasts wings and drumsticks. They were so juicy! Have you tried the recipe in the book for chicken? I prefer to use this instead of straight airfry. I also use for home fries the steam paracooks nicely and then it crisps. Fluffy inside and crispy plus shorter time. Following the recipe totally determines the results. In the case of the tomatoe bisque, the recipe was for crushed tomatoes and puree. The diced tomatoes are heavier and sink to the bottom where they sat the entire recipe. Had you stirred them it's doubtful they would have stuck. The roast? Gawd, I love gravy too! I wonder if it was just in too much liquid? In the recipe book for steam and chips they only use a cup. 6 cups may slightly alter the recipe. Love your channel and my foodi XL.

Appreciate your various cooking options as it's essential to see when choosing a multi cooker. Am researching which one I'd like to own. Was concerned with the tomatoes burning as well as the thermometer being off by quit a bit. Wonder if you got answers from the manufacturer on both situations? It is the one lid and thermometer which are part of my draw toward this being my purchase, however, I would need to rely on that thermometer. Otherwise it's just a perk that comes along and never gets used. Thanks in advance for any extra info and appreciate your review.

I recently purchased one of these , I did get confused with the steam combi mode however. I had intended to just steam some vegatables so I assumed the steam meals option would work. So that is what I selected inserted my vegetables using both racks, added the water, set the timer and pressed start. The cooker pre heated and when the timer started so did the fan which I thought odd. When the timer had finished, the vegetables were cooked but also the top rack were partially fried despite choosing the "steam meals" option, which seems to imply that the cooker will steam without the top heating element coming on. I can't see the difference between "steam Meals" and "steam fry" if I'm missing something please let me know. The actuall Steam function is acually under the Air-fry hob function. I have tried that function and it works no problem. Your reviews of this product are very helpful, and personally have used the Ninja with great success. I would suggest to any potential owners to read the manual thouroghly.

Thank you for this, I'm really considering buying one of these! Just doing lots of research first. I'm from the UK, and Worcestershire sauce is pronounced "wustersheer" sauce, say u as you would in the word up, and sheer to rhyme with deer. Plumber here. So, techincally you should always use the cold tap for cooking. Hot water has more scaling in the pipes and antiquated water lines can carry large particulates of stuff you don't wanna consume. That being said, it the dose that makes the poison, so it's really negligible in the grand scheme of things. But, this scaling can ruin appliances faster. Especially a kettle.

Grill/broil is the same thing; just different terminology between UK and USA.
I have had my Foodi Smartlid with probe for almost a year now and absolutely love it. I have had the whole line of Instant Pots and the previous two-lid Foodi and this new version blows everything out of the water as far as I am concerned. It is disappointing to see that the probe function is not that accurate. I have only used it twice, once for a whole chicken and once for a bone-in turkey breast, and both times they were cooked perfectly. Maybe this device’s limitation is cooking beef to perfection. I am not a big beef eater and so I have never used my Foodi to cook beef. I was sorry to see that nice piece of meat ruined through no fault of your own. It will be interesting to find out if you get feedback from Ninja corporate as to what might have happened. Your video was incredibly helpful and informative. Cleaning the lid is an issue that I haven’t fully resolved. I use the pressure cooker function as recommended and it still looks like the oven does when you haven’t cleaned it properly. Moist and delicious breast meat with the steam crisp function, that I can’t even describe. I wanna see how cornish hen come out in it bcuz cornish hen is so weird that I don’t buy it anymore. I seen that new Ninja Speedi, which is real cute and tempting to buy bcuz it’s so cute. But I’m passing on that one and going for the next Ninja that’s coming, the Ninja Possible Pro, which is like their old Ninja Cooking System. I loved that a lot and going for the new version of it when it comes out.

hi i used it so far as a slow cooker --> seemed to over cook my meat at the same setting as my 2nd slow cooker .... although i think if i had cooked at low setting it would have been better slow and low as well i tried Janes whole wheat chicken fingers ... 6 mins a side at 390 was perfect ... super fast ... will be trying chicken fingers and sweet potatoe fries tonight ...

I bought the cheaper model without the probe or automatic steam release for $180. Looks like it was a really good price and I really didn’t care about not having the probe. Looks like I made a good purchase, lots of good reviews on the machine.

yea I agree, I've cooked for 40 years without a probe!
The steam from building up pressure would factor into that and that adds about 10 minutes ish, so it would be about the same amount of time really.

Awesome video! So my current Instant Pot IP has not been working properly as 50% of the time it keeps giving me a "Burn Error" message, despite there being the right amount of liquid inside the pot, despite deglazing the pot if I used it to saute beforehand, etc. etc. No matter what I do it give me the "Burn Error" message. I think it is time to upgrade and I'm really liking this Ninja Multi-Cooker. Although I just purchased a Cosori 30qt Air Fryer Oven that has a ton of features, I would mainly be using this machine for Pressure Cooking. Can you tell me if the inner pot is non-stick and if this machine gives off any type of "Burn Error" messages like my Instant Pot does? If I go with just a Pressure Cooker than I am looking into the Instant Pot Pro Plus with WiFi but not too sure which model to go with between this Ninja or the Instant Pot. Thanks for your help.

Good video, but how was the inside of the meat? we couldn't see how its inside, well done or medium etc. Maybe your thermometer has a problem rather than ninja probe? I think you could cut the meat to show inside. I was really worried about it 😜

so counting the time for carrots is about the same at the end as you mentioned steamed about 18 minutes and pressure cook is "only about 3 minutes", however when you add +12m to get the pressure ready and 3-4 to release the pressure at the end you are at 18+ minutes again anyway so I guess it only depends what taste better

I've used mine to roast all meats, beef included. Never, EVER had an issue with it. I can't see how you can mess it up!! It's always been spot on in our house - we use it also for pressure cooking, air-frying and the fantastic steam frying. It's a brilliant machine and I'd recommend it to anyone.

@@TheAverageKitchenactually you didn’t follow the directions to the tee. You said you added more beef broth than recommended “because extra gravy is always good”. I found your video after turning a nice $$ chuck roast into (near) beef jerky following the recipe in the book for Italian Beef Sandwiches. I carefully inserted the probe exactly the way shown. Against my better judgment I followed directions switching from saute (browning the roast) to pressure cook after adding broth and various ingredients, cringing as I selected the "shred" option knowing that was 235 degrees. Sure enough, my poor roast not only wouldn't shred, but would barely slice. I am really worried now that this is going to be a bust of a purchase and wonder if it's even worth keeping. I'm definitely wary of this probe. I may give it one more chance (NOT on pressure cook) and see if it is indeed the problem. I wish I had seen your video first as I would have gotten my regular food thermometer to check the temp to compare. Anyway, thanks for your honest review.

There are 2 models like this and one has the bread proofing and thermometer the other does not and is cheaper. Pressure cooking carrots would take longer than steaming because of time it takes to pressurize. Not sure if there is more nutrient loss either way-in water or out. So far we are enjoying this model. I never checked the probe temp with my digital temp, but it did do a steak to medium rare just fine. I would borrow another digital thermometer and make sure it is not the digital thermometer that is off. If it proves the machine is off call the company as maybe the Ninja isn’t calibrated right. Can’t remember if you checked the potato?? I burned the first 2 items when I got it😂😂. It does fries excellent. We just spray with avocado oil and toss a few times during cooking. Makes super quick bean soup with ham hock. The searing is Great! Cooked frozen chicken breasts in no time in PC. Haven’t had a lot of time to use yet because of gardening, but we think it is a huge time saver and it doesn’t heat the house up in the summer. What I would like to see is a cookbook that doesn’t call for ready made boxed ingredients for baking. Huge disappointment in recipe books. I tried a coffee cake recipe online that was unrated and I soon seen why. All I changed was to add some apple slices. It was for copycat Starbucks coffee cake which I never had before. It had way too much topping and it was like a lead anchor. It didn’t want to bake through and was over browning the top. I see why it wasn’t rated as it was a waste of ingredients. 😡 As you know winter is upon us and hopefully will come up with a quick batter for coffee cake, cakes and bread. This appliance is large and we found a permanent home on the counter without upper cupboard as the lid needs room and you don’t want steam ruining the cupboards. The steam fryer is not overly loud at all and all other settings are mostly quiet. Haven’t tried bread proofing, but will soon and I have a dedicated dehydrator, but nice this can do that also. It’s easy cleanup and yes, a nonstick ceramic cook pot and for longevity and using metal utensils a stainless would be nice. We never use metal in this one except the rack that came with unit. Thanks for the quick run through and enjoy.

Thank you for your review. The failure of the temperature probe was a deal-killer for me. I'd rather buy a probe from Thermoworks. It's a very big piece of equipment, and coupled with the hinged lid, I have no place to set it in my kitchen. The issues with the soup and the roast would be crushing. Ninja seems to produce an ever-expanding array of products, but they don't seem to test their recipes adequately. It would be nice to have one appliance that could do it all, but we don't seem to be there yet.

thanks for this great review. I was hoping to learn how to use the ninja to grill things (I don't mean specifically from your video) - for example chicken, burgers etc. I know you can get racks but the one that comes with it, whilst high enough, would not be able to support a burger unless frozen as it would fall through the grates. Do you know if there is a searing plate available? I've looked on the ninja Kitchen UK website and they don't have such a thing. Perhaps I'm missing something obvious?

The difference in the time between pressure and steam cooking is because steam is working on around 100C temperature, but the pressure cooking is on around 120C. This is because water under pressure is boiling around 120C temperature. Maybe sounds great but pressure cooking is not recommended because on 120C you kill all valuable staff in the food. Obviously the healtier way to cook is slow cooking because in this case the temperature is around 80C.
