    I have both. I value both. Of course, I only use one: the Smart Lid. Why? Simply because when pressure cooking with the Smart Lid machine, I can also select a time at which the machine will automatically release the built up pressure; for example, for eggs, after selecting 4 minutes of pressure cooking, I can also select that the machine will release the built up pressure immediately. Or when pressure cooking dried beans, I can select 30 minutes, and then select a 10 minute delay for the machine to automatically release pressure. . With the Pro version of the machine, you have to manual release the pressure. Also, with the Smart Lid, is an option to get an internal thermometer, which will stop the cooking once needed internal temperature is reached; for example, for fish, the machine will stop cooking once internal temperature reaches 145 degrees; for chicken, 165 degrees. (You change the selected temps if you need.) I was blessed to be a caregiver for my Mom. Sometimes my focus was narrow, I was subject to forgetting or working outside the kitchen. So I spent the dollars to get the Smart Lid for the purpose of more "hand off food prep." The Smart Lid is a great machine. But it cooks the same as the Pro. Regarding the Smart Lid machines "SteamCrisp" option. The Pro does not provide this option. However, unless you are into exotic bread making (some bread benefits from chewy crust due to baking under steam), the "SteamCrisp" option is not a satisfactory replacement for, say, pressure cooking a whole chicken - relatively fast, tender, juicy - then pouring out the water and air frying for about 15 minutes. The outer of the chicken is far crispier than with the (unsatisfactory) "StreamCrisp" option; it just follows the commonsense physics, you can't get as much crispy in a steamy (soggy) cooker.. Neither I, nor any others I have found on the web, have been satisfied by the SmartLid's "SteamCrisp" (again, excepting some bread making). Given my personal experience, I would buy the Pro: The added automatic features of the Smart Lid are nice in theory, but did not translate into meaningful practical benefit. But machines cook equally great. The Pro costs less and produces every bit equally in high quality cooking. Both machines have more than lived up to the hype and hope. Over time, my kitchen work / nutrition output has evolved to be far better than ever before. I made a very good decision to purchase.

    Thank you for this comparison. I have the old machine. I’m a little disappointed that it doesn’t have the slow cook mode but then I have a crock pot anyway so no big deal. I have a 3 quart Instant Pot that does have the slow cook mode. I found I need to put it on high when doing the slow cook mode as suggested on another video. It’s just me and my husband so we rarely need a large slow cooker. This was helpful in that I don’t have any question whether I need to upgrade or not. I’m going to keep my machine. So far I’m absolutely in love with this, I never considered the other one with 2 lids that meant finding storage for the second lid. And the steam air fry function on the 11in1 is amazing. I know this is an older review but I'm faced with this dilemma trying to consolidate some appliances. The smart lid concern is that we use our air fryer sometimes multiple times daily. While I like the access to clean the smart lid, I don't really want to have to do it to the extent that you did - yours is spotless! I'm thinking that if I miss something with the clean up on the smart lid, whatever I missed ends up dripping into my next pressure cooked meal? Of course reading comments below, the fact that the smart lid cleans itself is its own bonus.... Geez! What to do...what to do...lol. Thank you for the super comprehensive review video!

  • @JoesPhenomenal

    Thanks! I wouldn't worry about the smart lid dripping stuff into new cooks too much. That heating element burns a lot of that off. If you're doing mostly air frys probably you won't get TOO much up in there. Man.. If they designed it with a removable coil, that would. Hav made it so much easier.

  • @JoesPhenomenal

    Mine has stayed pretty clean... It doesn't have the guard down below the heating element, so it's a lot easier to get up in there for cleaning, though. You can also run steam cycles on it with some water, lemon juice, and detergent, and that can do a pretty great job, also. I do have a video on here someplace about cleaning that machine also that might be helpful, also.

    So, I watched both videos... but no mention of which one is easier to clean? I mean the ones one the pro look easier to clean since the new one has an exposed heating element.. but you'd need to clean 2 lids some of the time & like you said the new one has a better drip cannal going to the drip tray.

  • @JoesPhenomenal

    @JoesPhenomenal

    2 жыл бұрын

    Heya, Twenty... Actually working on a cleaning video for this.... They're both a little bit of a pain in the neck, to be honest. The pro hides the heating element a litle better, but you have to remove a bunch of screws to clean back behind the the plate, The smart lid version doesn't have that plate, but like you said, everything is exposed more. For me It's still easier on the smart lid one, since I didn't have to break out a toolbox to get into where I wanted to. For the most part, they stay pretty surprisingly clean if you are wiping down after each use, for if your using it often, I'd still do a better cleaning every few weeks... will work on getting that video out.

If you're using dry rice, I would still try to layer it though, since you don't want to end up adding or losing water that might absorb into other stuff..... You could end up with hard or overcooked rice that way.

    We are in the UK and just received a Ninja Foodi max 11-in-1 multi-cooker and wonder how the time & temp compares with our oven. For example, we are fans of frozen Thai Prawn Fishcakes which Waitrose recommends are cooked at 200 C deg (fan) for 30mins which seems to be on the high side for similar recipes suggested for Air frying in Ninja cookbooks? Any thoughts?

  • @JoesPhenomenal

    @JoesPhenomenal

    Жыл бұрын

    Sure... keep in mind that it's a much smaller area to heat, so it will take less time to get it up to temperature, and also will maintain that temp better... not to mention that the functions that use the fan will benefit from less distance that the air has to move. The time and temp differences will vary according to what you're putting in there, so you might have to experiment a little, but a good starting point for me was knocking time and temp down about 10% and moving around from there... it to be easier, you can just use the same temp, but cut down the time a little more.... That second one is what I nomally do... then you only have to worry about messing with one setting.

    Hi, I purchased this a few months ago mainly for the pressure cooking setting. I tried the pressure setting a few times and always gets the "no pressure" message. I add more liquid, and it still happens. So freaking frustrating!! I bought this to speed up the process and end up spending much more time trying over and over and end up cooking on the stove top. I'm about to throw this shit away. Why do you think this keeps happening. I usually have let's say: 1/4 to 1/3 with solids (meat, chicken, rice etc) the the rest liquid. Never more than 1/ 2 to 2/3 full total.. I'm I doing something wrong or is my machine defective. Or am I just stupid? I have the newer version BTW

  • @JoesPhenomenal

    @JoesPhenomenal

    Жыл бұрын

    Hmm... Let's see if we can trouble shoot this..... as far as I know, there are 3 things that can give you the no pressure error (other than the thing just being busted). First, it could be not enough water in there. Looks like you got that one covered though. Second, check the big rubber seal in the lid and make sure it's freely moving and not getting pinched or squished anywhere. Third, check the pressure valve on the top and make sure it isn't set to open..... I do this one ALL THE DANG TIME. I flip it to release pressure, and always forget to put it back for the next time...hopefully, it's one of those for you.

    @JoesPhenomenal thanks. I'll recheck when I get home. I used it last night. First, I made beef Stew with the liquids needed, and it pressurized perfectly for 12 minutes. I released the pressure.. perfect. Then, I went to add rice and pressure for another 10 min or so, and that's when the message kept appearing. It looked to have more than enough liquid. But u went on and added another cup of water And still, the same error. That's what keeps happening to me. I ending up cooking the rice in there on the steam mode and luckily it worked. But idk why this happens. All in all, the pot was about halfway full. I understand it there was just too much stuff and it doesn't have space to pressure but I doubt that was it. Very frustrating as that function was the reason why I bought the damn thing. Lol. I will check the seal, but I doubt it because it did the beef just fine. It happened once I added the rice. I'm gonna have to contact customer service.. thanks again brother. Keep up the great content!!

If your main use for the machine is pressure cooking, thne the old machine is easier, since the pressure cooking lid is separate and doesn't have anything hanging off it. For pretty much everything else, the smart lid version is better, because the main lid of the old machine has that big grate on it covering everything up that is hard to clean behind.

    You know.. It's funny that you say that. That's kind of what I thought it was going to be like before picking up the second Gen machine. In my personal experience (and that can really vary depending on the person), I haven't had any issues with the inside of the lid getting all gross. Used it pretty extensively too.... Really all they did was add the pressure plates into the regular lid so it can pressure seal. Other than that it's really pretty similar. The grate not being there hasn't seemed to make a ton of difference for me...one thing that bugs me about it is that fact if you rely on it too much, and it breaks or something, then you effectively lose most of your cooking functions...i suppose you could day that about a lot of machines though.
