Amazing. You really did a great job, and it's a testament to your professionalism that you took the time to sweat the details in spite of the client's final pieces being well above the freaking cloud layer where you'd never see the defects... Those planer shavings also make great admixture to mulch, or could be used just as mulch. That said, extra points, sir, for the opening shot. "I have wood chips in my underwear." Said every single woodworker, ever, but with a sly smile 'cuz we like it that way.

Yes both of those points are real! Haha. The detail work was most important for the beam closest to the loft, otherwise, rather pointless. And I'd like to say I enjoyed having chips in my underwear but it doesn't seem to be my woodworking fetish.

@@FortressFineWoodworks LOL. No fetishes here either, but most times at the end of the day in the shop, I'm prepping for a shower and ... wood chips in the underwear. I figure it's a 'good day' indicator.

This has to do with a video you made recently. Was curious if you received your waterbase envirolak yet. I got mine. I sprayed some wallnut and compared it with wallnut that I sprayed with solvent base. It came close but solvent base a bit richer. Not surprised. But nevertheless impressive for water base. Then I sprayed the envirolak over stained wood and again compared it to solvent base sprayed over the same stain on same wood. That is where the dealbreaker happened. Was like night and day. The solvent base over the stained wood looks soooo much richer. Now my full $500 pail of envirolak is going to the dump. 😢

Hopefully you can find a good use for it. I got envirolak 200 to spray for my upcoming project. It's a solid color, not clear. So we will see! Thanks for watching

I have to ask… how did you ever figure out what to bid for a project like that? I am asked to build many different projects - ones like this trip me up. I get the numbers wrong and I lose my shirt.

I figure out how long it will take me to make it plus materials. Then add charges for the delivery, scaffolding, and install.... then multiply that by 100. Just kidding. I add 20% on at the end for a buffer.

Hmmm… the “how long” part is the one that I don’t do well. Did you know it would take two days of milling? And the clean up etc?

Truthfully, I go off of past projects. So I was highly inaccurate during the first stages of my work, but years later, I have a good idea of how long things actually take.
