I feel you brother and thank you for sharing your personal trials with the rest of us. I know first hand how heavy sobriety and depression can be even if we all experience it in our own way. For me, sharing the devotion to overcoming this hurdle helps create a more solid baseline to work towards. Love your work and look forward to seeing more. First - this is an amazing piece of art you've created. You have exceptional attention to the details, and it shows. Second - I applaud your courage for sharing your challenges. I'm not an addict, but I had to choose to end a relationship because my ex was, and could not summon the fortitude to do the necessary introspection to modify her behavior (as you have)... what I learned from that was, happiness is a choice that only you can influence, and you can't "make" others truly happy... kinda like the saying about putting your oxygen mask on first before your kids' in an airplane. All that ramble was supposed to come across as supportive. Stay strong.

Please keep up the excellent work and as always, share it with others - that in it's self can be empowering.

Another great video and awesome build. Can you give a link to where you get the medallions to put on the pieces? That is such a great touch. Also, congratulations on your sobriety. It is way more important than you realize!!
@FortressFineWoodworks
11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the awesome comment! The medallions are actually coins from Coins For Anything. here's the link coinsforanything.com/. I will say, the first purchase is fairly pricy since you have to purchase a mold that they use to create your design. And thank you for watching!
So I got to this point in the video (10:13) and had to stop to say this real quick. I’m also in recovery, also for the “scariest” drug on the planet, for most normal people at least, and alcohol. I’m also a woodworker who does enjoys this hobby/business of ours because it provides my brain with calm juice at moments when I’m about to go over the edge. Your recovery and your mental health always takes the first priority in all things, and know people who actually give a fuck about you as a person over your video output will be willing to be patient if it means you get to stick around to keep making videos in the long run. Since the beginning of the pandemic I’ve lost track of the amount of friends who’ve relapsed, and later had funeral invites sent out. You deserve every chance you can get to maintain your sobriety and your mental health no matter what, and you don’t owe anyone on this planet an explanation for how or why you do the things you do to maintain that. I’m (technically) the president of a non-profit here in New Mexico aimed at ending the opioid crisis and saving the lives of our fellow addicts, so even though I’ve never met you and probably never will if you ever need a voice to talk to at 3am I’d be happy to be there for you man. Also, on an unrelated note, you’re the only woodworker on KZread who gives a fuck about finishing with anything other than Rubio Monocoat and I need to make sure that sticks around…. So I’m invested 😂 Love you brother. And I mean that. Keep fighting the good fight.

@@FortressFineWoodworks As a retired professional, I can tell you that achieving an acceptable work-life balance is difficult, even for someone who has not faced the challenges you detailed. A design question: It appears that you permanently attached the hutch to the base. I have moved some of those things and find the ones with a removable hutch way easier to move in two pieces. Is there a design reason to make it all one piece? I am very happy for your continued sobriety and optimistic for your continued well being. Thanks for the advanced content. I love it.
@FortressFineWoodworks

When the hutch was installed, the crown went all the way to the ceiling. So it was built in. So there will be no moving that thing around anyways
Beautiful piece! Curious if you glue your crown joints together?
