SMALL CRAFT SET UP FOR GREAT LAKES FISHING!! - Lake Michigan Salmon and Trout Trolling
Ойын-сауық
I go over 3 different things that help me be successful tackling the big water of Lake Michigan to target Salmon and Trout from a small craft (17ft). Trolling for Great Lakes trout and salmon in a smaller boat is quite easily done with just a little bit of specialized equipment and a little bit of common sense when it comes to weather.

Cool setup. I've got a new 19' boat and I'm trying to get my boat setup for some lake MI salmon.
I had a 16' Smokercraft that I used on the Big Lake many, many times. I had 8 of those Tite-Lok rod holders on mine. Caught a lot of salmonids on that boat. I used Cannon Easy Trolls for riggers. My set-up was very similar to yours. Great video. Thanks for sharing this.

@fishinfool3795 Sounds just like my rig! It's so fun being able to do it all on your own! Thank you so much for watching!
Just wanna say thank you, always appreciate great explanations and insights you share. Cheers!

Walter Albert Thank you!
I'm going to spend your money. Add a marine band radio to your boat for safety and a Waterwolf underwater camera to your downrigger cable so you can video your lures and fish strikes. 😊 I'd be interested in seeing those deep diving crankbaits that are sitting in the background.

The Lonesome Fisherman I do have a marine radio and flares! The Waterwolf would be cool on the downrigger! 😎

@Angling Anarchy Good to hear about the safety gear. Muskie season opens soon. Go get them and good luck

Mitchell Genz Thank you sir! I appreciate it!
Great stuff! I would really like to see you do a rod setup video!

muskymadness I'll see what I can do about that!
I learned it the hard way. My plastic rod holder broke with a 10 pound king hitting a magnum wire diver.

@sinfulbeliever7083 That sucks! It's amazing how much power those fish have!
Hey great video! I have a 2014 Fish Hawk 1650. I fish Lake Erie for walleyes. I’ll take it out to 14 miles. Like you said you have to know what the weather is going to be.

Nice Brian, How do you propel and steer your boat?

Great info. Do you have plans for a autopilot or remote steering?
@AnglingAnarchy

@@havocguy100 I could certainly deploy my terrova and use the autopilot function to help with that, but I typically find that I don't have a need for it.

Hi@@havocguy100, One thing I found out the hard way is if you are going to use a gas kicker motor and your Terrova (which I do) set it to what I think is called "legacy" autopilot. If it's set on the other autopilot the Terrova will overcorrect and make annoying sharp turns. Best of luck!

@scottgarbs7761 Absolutely! That Advanced mode on the Minn Kotas is garbage! Gotta have it on Legacy for sure!
Small craft? lol. An 18 foot boat in no way is a small craft. The majority of my youth was spent fishing out of a 14 foot boat holding dipsy then later a 16 foot boat.

@reidsimonson The Coast Guard designates any craft less than 65 ft as a small craft. So, yes, by definition, an 18 ft boat is a small craft on the Great Lakes.

On the Great Lakes 22ft and less is considered small. Trust me, my 22 footer gets tiny real fast when the waves pick up, which happens in about 5 minutes when the wind picks up to 12 mph or faster.
