That my friend is the British way . The people that pay the council tax on their home's pay for those who receive council tax benefit . The older generation who have to go into nursing homes , pay for the other oldies who don't have a light . Those who actually pay to use public transport ,pay ( with an increased fare ) for the young and old who get free or reduced fares . Why even those of us who pay for our shopping, clothing etc , pay an extra mark-up for thems that shoplift . Even pensioners who receive the full state pension , get less simply because there are people who did not pay enuf ni contributions and they receive extra payments in the form of pension credits thus reducing the pension amount for thems that paid the full 35 years . Someone somewhere always pays . Shall we discuss the tv license ? Although why people pay to watch BBC propaganda is beyond me .

Very informative Jon. I'm looking forward to your next batch with more stats. The two things that are blatantly obvious, are 1. The BBC have had their day and need to stop treating the licence payers as their own cash machine, and 2. Lineker is being paid nearly £1 for every viewer that watches MoTD. In years gone by, the show would have been binned for such a low audience. So, what's the BBC's excuse now? Value for money programming, my ar$e.

What you've got to remember is that the bbc's viewing numbers are made up. They have 3-4,000 houses with an additional box added to their main tv, which counts the programmes viewed by at least 1 person in that household. The households with those recording boxes are paid to take part and use them and then they estimate a 'national' viewing figure from those few thousand boxes. So given the vested interest of those households (being paid to watch broadcast television), these numbers will always be higher than an average 3-4,000 UK households in reality. Fake numbers from the fake channels at bbc.
