No I am not on a huge pension and the BBC system is such that it is still full of the same number of employees as it was when I was there 15 years ago. It is badly run, corrupt and useless organisation that should have been scrapped 20 years ago.

I'm 83 and since loosing the free licence and even before, we had not watched any BBC programs, got so fed-up with the bias. Mrs Browns sh1t just made us feel sick. Funny things is two of the daughters family pay the fee, but never watch TV. I ask them if there is anything they like and they can't answer except that the programs they like are BBC studio work.

no offence but i've always seen it as a tax (legally it is classed as a tax i believe, that's why they can can criminally prosecute people). i haven't had a TV licence for decades now but i don't see why people should pay the BBC to watch other live TV programmes from other channels. i'm just glad the BBC is on its last legs, they're a corrupt organisation that pay millions to their presenters and staff with no repercussions when they harass people who don't require a TV licence. i know we're on the same page here, just saying it's not a subscription service if they can prosecute people for watching another station simply because it's live TV. rant over!

The employees whose responsibilities include the BBC's budget shouldn't be anywhere near such jobs. How anyone can be handed the thick end of £4bn and still not keep the accounts in the black is beyond me. In fact, the BBC should have a healthy surplus at the end of each tax year.

The BBC should be on subscription. You just buy it if you want it. Should have been like that years ago. Of course we know why they will never do that. Most people wouldn't want that channel. They would go bust. Especially with all the rubbish programs they produce now.

Greg Dyke certainly understands the commercial media world as he spent most of his career there. In 1994, he made a fortune when Granada bought out LWT. He also knows that the BBC would go bust in the real world marketplace.

BBC is not indispensible. Let those who want it pay for it. Leave the rest of us out of it.

I live in Scotland and the STV channel ALWAYS get it right. Rain Wind and Snow. It`s easy.

In an alternate universe if I ever became PM day one the BBC would be told they have a month before switching to ads and the licence is being completely scrapped for everyone. Not in 5 years, not in 2 years. 1 month. Then it is 100% down to viewing figures on how much they earn. All convictions revoked.

Greg Dyke was DG from 2000 - 2004. That was 20 chuffin’ years ago. Perhaps I can comment on the way Sainsbury’s run their business as I worked for them when I was at school.

I am certified as severely visually impaired ‎so I can easily get a half price TV license. ‎I don t because I don t want a TV license at all, ‎not even a free one. ‎just abolish the TV license and consign ‎TV licence inspectors, TV license vans and threatening letters to the history books.

IF the license stays, why should someone who already shoulders a high tax burden pay even more so someone else can watch tv.

Why should the majority of British people for an abysmal service, which has not been fit for service for decades. We can opt out of whether purchasing Sky, Virgin Media, BT Media, NOW TV, Amazon Prime or not, but have the BBC foisted on us. Before the BBC Television, it was the BBC Radio Service that our grandparents and great grandparents had to pay for. If it was a car, the BBC would be a lemon.

Back in the day when all the infrastructure was maintained by the BBC i kind of understand the TV licence thing. But nowadays it should be as simple as provide a service , if your service is good people will pay for it. Its the same with the whole EV thing, don't force it on people, make the product good and people will by it.

I have always thought it was something like this too I made a phone call about this to the BBC and they quickly went quiet and clamped up on phone 📞

I don't want my TV licence paid for me whether they can or not no one in my house watches TV except non live TV and there's a principal I cancelled it for that reason I can afford to pay it whether I get benefits or not

The BBC used to have their own engineers though they were being removed when I was working there and they were then bringing in outsiders at 5x the price to do the same job. There is of course a simple solution; encrypt the BBC, all of it and make it such that you need a CI card in the back of your TV that you pay for by subscription. The license can then go away!

Why don't people understand, they have the power to stop this monster in its tracks ..... Just stop paying them if they try to make it media tax refuse to pay that portion simples😅

Extra rant: Some people on benefits have more income (for free) than working people in low paid jobs, who don’t qualify for any help. Adding a free tv license to their pot of freebies is galling if minimum wage earners have to still pay it.

No, other channels should NOT get a slice of the fee. That is just putting them on benefits. They should, however, sue to remove the restraint of trade created by stopping people who don't pay the BBC from watching a commercial channell

I do not believe the TV tax would go up because if they tried that the public outrage would be so great and the amount of canceled subscritions to the BBC would be off the charts. At that time the BBC would really have only two options,they would have to go to a commercial based operating system, or they would have to close up shop. Considering it's the BBC, I would prefer the latter. @@mikehipperson

I've been Licence free for 15 months, should have done it years ago... don't watch any broadcast TV or Iplayer. First step to stop the courts criminalizing people for non payment, (can't see that happening though). I'm concerned they will slam it as an extra on Broadband or Council tax or other back door way, these would be very much harder not to pay.

A lot of people who have rehired do more work when there getting there pension than working = REAL TALK

The BBC can say what they like, so can Dyke, so can the Government. But ultimately, it's the people who will dictate, for it is the people who have the power.

Thanks Jon for your dedication. I've been following this channel for a while now. Those goons are bloody vultures. I rented a property in late 2022. Didn't move in straight away but surely enough in the space of 3 weeks I got 4 letters from them, addressing to the legal occupier, threatening to send one of their boys around anytime they felt pleased! I did get a licence when I moved in coz I thought the Mrs and kids might watch live TV from time to time. When I called them up and asked what was with the letters, rather than apologising or explaining themselves, the lady on the phone asked in an aggressive tone whether I had a TV and watched live TV now, to which I said yes that's why I'm calling! Only then did she chill out a bit. I ain't earning much but could afford to pay it. However, I feel increasingly reluctant to do so like many of us. Just why should we pay more when the money is clearly lying the pockets of people and organisations on this gravy train! Surely enough, they sent me multiple very friendly reminders through the post and email to renew when the year was up. I didn't respond and didn't renew as we now have Netflix and don't watch live TV. I canceled it on the last day to see whether they'd stop sending me letters for two years. So far they haven't sent anything since but let's see whether they'd contact me sooner than that!

Why are individuals paying taxes at all? Corporations have all the money. All our income comes from them. Tax them.

The last time I watched the BBC was about 10 years ago. Recently I visited my mother who buys a TV licence. I looked at her TV guide and to my amazement it was the same old shows like Homes under the hammer . Crazy thing it was repeats which I'd seen 10 years ago.

The reason is simple why do you pay for all "so-called" live broadcasts channels and not just the BBC, if you only paid for the licence fee to cover the BBC then how many people would actually watch the rubbish they produce, they would close down within the first few years

Greg Dyke presented me with my degree certificate in 2005. I was so disappointed we didn't get anyone cooler (like Harry Hill). He has the sweatiest hands I've ever shaken in my life.

They're digging in their heels because they can, like a stubborn child. Literally, the ONLY thing that makes the BBC special is that it doesn't show adverts. Instead it shows endless reruns from 60 years ago and dreadful reality programmes, occasionally throwing in a high quality documentary.

When you're on any kind of government credit, the likelihood that the person is vulnerable increases. Its so out of touch from an ex BBC member to say that. As usual, expecting money from the vulnerable and elderly when they may not need the license, as they're most easy to bully and bring to court. Disgusting.

I have paid for a tv licence since i got married in 1984 my son in his thirties doesn't pay i was cross with him he told me it was an unjust tax it got me thinking i don't watch much tv and it tends to be Netflix and for the first time last year didn't pay it and i was anxious ,probably like your mum was, as you've discussed previously ,i got letters and a letter asking if i would be in on the 12th March this year and i did get a visit on that day at teatime i asked who he was he said he was from tv licensing i said ok and closed the door i was shaking thinking I'm going to get a court fine and i immediately felt i must pay it due to the visit. but that's what they want you to feel. i then went on you tube and found your videos its given me the confidence to continue being unlicensed for the right reasons and my son is also pleased I'm on board ,thanks Jon

I always find it odd that the public broadcasting company does not broadcast information which would be beneficial to the public. By this I mean information regarding helath issues for example. Reminders about vaccinations, disease outbreaks, the signs of illness, public health services........ Why are these things squeezed into advertising slots on commercial TV and for which, I assume, a fee has to be paid. There is a multitude of other bits of information that could be seamlessly given out, motoring laws, property laws, legal rights, safety reminders.... all in small, bite sized blips but very handy. (Preferably without excess represenation of foreigners!)
