Every day that goes by, the BBC becomes more and more irrelevant. I don’t listen to any BBC radio stations any more and I no longer believe the BBC News is either independent, truthful, or tells us what is really going on in the UK. The sooner the BBC is closed down, the better.

I'm not sure who their radio stations are aimed at. Daytime BBC radio has seemed less and less relevant to me in recent years. I only listen in the car and typically thump my way through the stations before declaring it all rubbish and switching it off.

I haven't had a television in decades, the radio just gathers dust. I want to throw it out as it uses up worktop space in the kitchen, but my husband switches it on when we go out - to pretend there's someone in should anyone come sneaking about. Not that it's on a BBC channel, but that's the only use for a radio these days. I prefer the internet by a long shot. Just hope the BBC never gets its filthy, greedy claws in that.

My dad works in BBC, we have a reasonable size 6 bedroom house that we are still paying the mortgage for. He only received 25% pay rise this year, how do you think we going pay off the mortgage if the BBC was to shut down! We have bills too you know. The TV licence is only £169 and with the service that BBC offer it is very good vfm. It also keep jobs going too.

American here, and yes that's relevant. The USPS loses a lot of my mail and around 20% of my mail is someone elses'. We have to pay to send almost everything. It's normally illegal to send letters through other companies, but let's face it, they'd be safer send via private couriers. Lightly regulated free-market is always better than the government.

My guess is that commercial channels don't want the BBC in the same market for advert revenues. It's also questionable that BBC operates several private businesses raking in millions of pounds, & commercial channels never highlight that either. It's a scam & I stopped paying in 2015.

Forgive me for asking... why are old people exempt? The BBC standards have fallen to such a degree, that would not watch even if free!

There was a time when I would have defended the BBC to the hilt. When I was young, they made quality programmes and it was wonderful to have two TV channels with no advertising. Having rendered themselves unwatchable through poor quality programmes and relentless anti-British woke propaganda, I can no longer support them.

I already pay for my own subscription service to watch content that I want to watch. I don't want to pay even more to the BBC for watching programs that haven't been produced by the BBC. I haven't watched anything from the BBC in years, and I don't plan on watching anything anytime soon.

The BBC is so woke, I only now watch football on the BBC. Then i have to witness the woke panel. Men's football: 2 women, black guy, token British White. Why have the BBC made the male British White, the minority? I used to love the BBC, but it has gone so woke. Football Focus: female, black, lesbian. That is why they gave her the job. You see it on every show. BBC, stop being so woke, whilst you still have some viewers left. Stop trying to tell us how we should think. Try interviewing and give the job to the best person, not the biggest minority. Which is now british white male if you want to know.

Apparently so.

At one time, the BBC was a superb channel. It genuinely represented and reflected the views of the majority of the British people in a convivial way, made many, many high quality shows that people wanted to watch (I have a collection of a number of them on DVD), and its news service was both balanced and highly respected worldwide. It's now none of those things, and broadcasts comparatively little "must watch" TV to justify the licence fee. It's hard to put a finger on exactly when and why things went wrong, but it now resembles the channel of decades ago merely by having the same name. It's like a cuckoo in the nest of the old, highly respected BBC.

@HA05GER. No..she worked hard her whole life so she's not entitled to it free..but she's well over 75 and doesn't understand why the BBC broke their agreement 're the elderly..she also has dementia and breast cancer..she got need to be bullied..so I paid

It is optional. You can remove their right of access from your property, however this is allegedly a reason they'll investigate you further, as they see it as suspicious. Just ignore them. If you answer the door and see it's then, close the door. Don't say a word.

The man knock on mine wouldn’t come in . If you haven’t got any wires going into your tv how are you watching it .your not so no problem tell her .Then every 2 years you sigh to say you’re not watching it . Your Nan can watch KZread, Netflix , or Amazon. DVDs etc .Older people can get it free but I think the age is very high .So is the age you have to work.

It Should not be called a TV licence, but a BBC licence.

Write to them and tell them you have no telly they will leave you alone for a couple of years , then do the same again after 2 years simple

I don't know why there's a fuss over the increase. My spending on the BBC has increased by 0%

Haven't had a TV licence for 20 years. I don't miss it. I did see some television while on holiday a few years back, and the wall-to-wall Covid fear-porn from the BBC was truly disgusting - and mostly wrong.

@@vg6761 Who have no right of entry without a court warrant. I literally work in the UK police service and i've never been to one of these "TV license enforcement" visits. I don't wish to either! In the unlikely event bailiffs came to my door, i'd just ignore them. Under normal circumstances they have no power to do anything other than post a letter through the letterbox or knock on the door, call you etc.

I have not watched the BBC since 2013. Good to see more folks catch up.

@@babetopaz Why I stopped watching the BBC? Mostly because they lie. Also because the views of the organization are vile and their content has been very poor and worsening over time too. The staff are reprehensible people that have been involved in terrible, record breaking scandals with abuse of vulnerable people/minors (the exceptions, rare as they are still prove the rule). Is that enough? I can continue... How about because of their double standards and firing of staff that do not follow their insane ideology? What about the forced taxation to fund the organization? How about the TV license increasing in cost as the quality plummets? Or how about the fact that it is an extremely inefficient bureaucracy that has actually stopped producing most of it's material and now outsources it. Or because they are not objective in the news reports and have actively tried to cover up stories when it suits them. Any more? I can keep going...

Its discusting the this is the only country in the world with a tv licence other countrys dont have to pay it should be 50 pounds a year its totaly discusting get rid of the licence now

100% correct. You don't have to give up watching, just watch via catch up and in the case of iplayer stuff it often gets uploaded elsewhere too (bbc news is on youtube for example).

Seriously, why are people even watching TV anymore? Everything is online, BBC has absolutely nothing interesting compared to every other channel, never mind all the streaming services, and they have the cheek to try to charge for it.

Not for me! I don’t pay for and never will pay the TV license! 🥳

BBC never shows the real news. Also when I switch the TV on I never see people like me anymore

We're open-minded in this house and welcoming of diversity but even we have noticed exactly what you just said so spot on! As indigenous white English, we are just not represented anymore by the BBC.

The fact you are FORCED and have to pay that amount and STILL watch adverts every 5 minutes is shocking
