Slingshot Hunting | Bushcraft Cooking Ep 2

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today we practiced some of our bushcraft skills with fire lighting, wild cooking and hunting Rabbit with the slingshot. The slingshot is a fantastic tool for wilderness survival
The slingshot i used is my Romany custom Raptor. My setup is 0.72mm thick green gzk flatbands tapered at 23mm to 17mm, shooting 9.5mm steel extremely fast. Speed is needed when shooting such light ammo but as you can see it's very capable hunting ammo for the catapult.
My kit today consists of my bushcraft knife which is a broc kepheart with burlap micarta scales, my openil saw, my wetterlings hunters hatchet, spare slingshot, wasp spinner, my swiss army knife and plenty of ammo.
Here's a link to my playlists where you can find slingshot shooting, catapult hunting, slingshot reviews and how to videos including how to aim a slingshot

Hi gentlemen. Thankyou for posting your footage. Your accuracy is out of this world and much agree with your opinions on targets and ethics. To aim and successfully hit a specific part of your quarry, for example the head, just shows how skilled and accurate you all are, who achieve this. Many of you will more be accurate with a slingshot, than some are with an air rifle. Amazing! Well done.

Nice video! And great that your taking small game with slingshots(catapults for my non American friends).I haven’t taken any game with one but I am planning to try my hand at making some with birch plywood that I have seen online and hope to do some hunting if everything works out. My sons who are 12 and 16 want me to take them out for a 48hour camping trip where we will only eat what we can kill with 22 rifles and I’d like to try to get some squirrels or a rabbit with a slingshot. Keep it up and nice work!

I started shooting a slingshot about 8 months ago. I started shooting with .75mm bands and 3/8 steel balls at 10 feet. Once I got to where I was shooting about a 1 inch group back off to 20 or 25 feet and practice practice practice. It took thousands and thousands of shots. I literally stood in one spot and shot 1000 steel balls then called it a night, went to work came home and shot another 1000. I did this for about 3 weeks. You're gonna break bands so stock up. You're gonna hit your hand with the ball sometimes, you'll bleed and it'll hurt like you wouldn't believe, but keep practicing eventually you'll get to where you're deadly deadly accurate. I can't legally hunt with a slingshot where I live but I leave tomorrow afternoon for idaho, I can hunt rabbits, squirrels, and grouse with it so hopefully I can get some of that on film for my channel. I shoot half inch steel or 10mm lead balls now you get way more energy out of it.

I was intrigued by watching some videos on KZread about using a slingshot and have ordered a Graphite Drab Edition Enzo Slingshot. I’m totally new to this so I’m after any help regarding types of ammunition to use. I don’t think I’ll be getting too deep into it so what sets of elastic would you recommend if the ones I get get damaged in any way. I’m really looking forward to it arriving and trying it out.

I disagree that body shots are bad on rabbits. I do want to start off by first saying: incredible shooting, good hunt, and that looked tasty! As for my disagreements: 1. You compared the slingshot to an air rifle, saying "air rifle men don't even go for body shots." First of all, a lot of air rifle people do take body shots, there are lots of forum posts discussing it. But regardless the comparison is a bit apples to oranges because they’re often shooting a .177 caliber projectile weighing 10 grains, not a .44 caliber (7/16in or 11.11mm) weighing 87.5 grains, which a lot of us use for hunting. Yes the slingshot is shooting a lot slower, but still with enough energy to have clean pass throughs. Both have around the same foot pounds of energy (around 12fpe) and neither are shooting with enough energy for hydrostatic shock effects, so in this case the diameter of the projectile is more important than speed, as long as the speed is enough to enter the vital organ areas. 2. You say it’s unethical. Taking a heart/lung shot on big game is considered the standard ethical shot. How is it any less ethical on a smaller animal? That makes no sense. An 11.11mm bearing is a huge portion of the size of a squirrel’s vital organs and has enough energy to pass through. It’d be like launching a bowling ball through a deer’s vitals-unorthodox yes, but clearly it’d be devastating enough to cause a quick death. I also want to point out that just because a disruption to the nervous system can sometimes *look* like a cleaner kill, doesn’t mean it *is* actually a cleaner kill. The heart is still pumping and it will take a while for the animal to die, it is just unable to move. Through the heart the animal is just as dead but the muscles are able to move. I’ve seen a deer shot through the heart run into a tree, fall over and keep kicking like it was still running on the ground-the animal was done, but the muscles were on autopilot. On the other hand, if you get a spinal hit, the brain is still intact, and the heart is still intact, but the animal is unable to move. Spine shots are getting more and more popular for deer hunters because, again, it *seems* like a cleaner kill, but it actually isn’t at all. 3. You say it ruins the meat. If it were a game bird, I would agree with you, but for rabbits I fully disagree. You guys certainly didn’t eat the stomach flaps or ribs on that rabbit. 4. You say it makes the meat gamey. This one is unprovable since taste is subjective and ‘gamey’ isn’t well defined. At least for me, I’ve taken rabbits with headshots and a 12ga, and I’ve taken them with body shots and a bow. And I’ve never noticed any difference in taste. So I suspect it doesn’t have much or any impact. But that could be a personal preference thing. The other 3 points are enough to say that it certainly isn’t wrong or unwise to go for body shots. As far as making the sport look bad, I think any hunting makes the sport look bad because the vast majority of people are detached from the circle of life and view any kind of hunting with disdain-there’s nothing you can do about those fools.
