Hunting for the pot with catapults and bare hands
Спорт
When Wayne Martin has a catapult in his hands, no small pest or game is safe. He joins Paul Childerley for a mooch around Paul’s Bedfordshire shoot. They are looking to fill the pot and, to help out, Paul plunges his hand into a squirrel drey.

Why shoot grey squirrels?
Grey squirrels are invasive pests, not native to the UK. They impact on our native wildlife, raiding nests to prey on eggs and fledglings, and they are responsible for the decline in native red squirrel numbers, likely because they carry but are immune to the parapox virus, which is fatal to red squirrels . The Wildlife Trusts estimate there are only around 140,000 native red squirrels left in the UK, compared to 2.5 million grey squirrels.
Grey squirrels cause damage to trees such as beech, oak, sycamore and chestnut. They strip bark at the base of trees which causes them to weaken and eventually to die. The UK Forestry Commission estimates grey squirrels cause £6-10 million damage to British forestry per year.
Grey squirrels have been known to damage houses and buildings by chewing on woodwork, insulation and electrical wires. They can also contaminate cold water tanks with urine and droppings. It has been illegal to keep grey squirrels (without a licence) since 1937, and it is illegal to release them into the wild.
Grey squirrels’ predators include stoats, goshawks and foxes, leaving gamekeepers, foresters and airgunners to do the main job of eradicating them. A coalition of airgunners across Anglesey successfully removed grey squirrels from the island. Other groups in Cumbria and Cornwall aim to do the same, with support from the government and private enterprise.

That Paul's got some nuts on him , more to him than meets the eye .
I see no one is mentioning this guys accuracy with a catty 😮 he's a bloody brilliant shot 👏
You got me hooked. Now I need to get a slingshot. Great day afield, my favorite place to be. Great video.

This is so cool. I am into airgunning, and I just bought my first Scout LT slingshot. I am looking forward to joining the slingshot community because they have competitions and everything airgunning has, including FUN, wholesome people.
Good shot with that catapult blimey, Paul's brave putting his hand into a drey or very skilled in squirrel charming 👍👍
I used to hunt with a catty when I was a kid in the 70s, I was a crack shot, I used to hunt Rats on our local river bank. My best shot ever was a very long distant lob shot at a carrion crow in a field I hit and killed it. My catty was made of ash and the rubber was snooker table cushion square rubber. Great video.

Thanks m8 I'm just getting used to my new hgh seem to be filling the freezer up slowly 👍
Great video. Great shooting. I'm out with mine tomorrow now. Got me in the mood for a mooch.
Me and my 3 brothers enjoy making those out of tree branches when we were little. Lots of fun!

Great Stuff!!!
Great shooting
I am 65 and bought a wal-mart black widow folding slingshot and a bottle of 1500 clay bullets. I was getting ok with it but then I went back and got that little wood 1 they sell for like 4 bucks. It has 2 small tubes on each side and a lot easier for me to shoot. I can hit my targets better with it so now I’m thinking of getting one of those like u pulled out with bands. I think it might be better for me than those big tubes on my widow.
What a video, best one I've ever seen, the shooting and putting his hand in the nest awesome
Slingshots are fun but I wouldn’t hunt with one! I truly admire how skilled these guys are but I’ll stick to my air gun all day !! Really good video !!
Brilliant day hunting love the video mate 👍

Great vedio grabin that squirrel something else brave paul
Slingshots are definitely addictive. I bought 1 on a whim and practiced with it when camping and whatnot. I am now more accurate with it than I am with my Glock at 60 feet or so, LOL!
I hunt squirrels sometimes but also have one that lives with me,im a tree surgeon and forester and rescued a pinky and now she just sits on my shoulder whilst I watch tv hahaaaaa

Hi Wayne great video as always. Random question but can I use 9.5 steel with your .85 hot shot bands if so what tappers would I need
Grey squirrel is most fun to shoot with Caty I have tripple gold theraband on mine and what a crack its super powerful a bit harder to make the bands but well worth the effort

The idiocy of you is outstanding..... a slingshot if shot at a person, fox, deer etc is not usually lethal... whereas a crossbow or bow if shot a larger game is more likely to injure...... your not going to viably hunt pheasants and squirrels with a fkin crossbow are you..... so most people who want to hunt with a crossbow, either want one for the wrong reasons, or want them to poach deer... deer bieng the only real thing people still poach in the UK.... I stalk deer with a .308 and can't see why anybody would want to shoot a deer with a bow or crossbow, and chase a blood trail through the woods for an hour like fkin rambo....

It's quite sickening seeing a deer running around with an arrow in it after being shot from incapable hunters. The wound rate in the US is rather high, deer suffering for days on end until they perish and rot. It's bad enough when hunters blow the bottom jaw off deer.
Amazing video! What's your 11mm steel ball setup?
Did you bring home the squirell and cook it ?
Just started using a sling. Use 8mm bearings. Been practising using leafs on a tree can see clear hole where bearings went throo but nothing on this guys level
Insane skill I wish I could do that I’ve tried so hard but just can’t get it,I need to lean as I’m late with my sgc renewal lol

Metal detectors nightmare
I shot a squirrel in the head, went and picked it up and it turned and bit me on the back of my thumb. Bloody hurt like hell and drawn quite a bit of blood. I always poke them with a stick now or a quick knock with me boot 🤣

Whats the best set up for 10 mm lead ammo?

Did you get much pot mate?
How would this do on a grizzly approaching his attack? A couple and dog killed by a grizzly in Montana, USA recently. Another guy had his jaw chewed off and lives to chat about it from another grizzly. In the Florida woods, we have feral hogs, rabbits, coyotes, pheasants, black bears and more. State parks say we cannot carry guns for defense. Do you think catapults and slingshots would be feasible?
Can someone explain to this Canadian how the folding knife with the flipper is legal in the UK? In North America, we are led to believe that only slip-joint knives with blades less than 3" are legal in Britain.
