Slingshot bands Explained (ish)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A general guide to modern slingshot flatbands. This is a controversial topic but here's my 2 shillings worth and I hope some of you find it helpful. In this video we go over band thicknesses, brands and tapers as well as stretch ratios, nothing with flatbands is set in stone but some setups are more efficient than others and many different factors come into play. Any questions please leave a comment and I'll try to get back to you.

Awesome review, Chris! A lot of interesting and useful information. I especially like how you explained how the different colors can affect the elasticity and performance of the band. I bet a lot of people did not know that. The parts about the different tapers and what ammo to use for each one is also very useful. Thanks again, mate! Stay safe!

Chris, thanks for taking the time put this info out there. Videos like this, which put a lot of information in one place, are really helpful to those starting out (like myself). I’ve found I’ve settling on GZK green as I’ve found black too heavy a draw. And I seem to have settled on .62 18-12 for 8mm steel and .72 20-15 for 9.5 mm steel, although now I’m going to try .72 at different tapers for 9.5mm. The bit about more extreme tapers is fascinating though. I can see me disappearing down another physics rabbit hole to understand that one.

Top notch advice Chris as always. Must admit I've switched from GZK bands (which I still reckon are excellent) to BSB White 0.65 22/15 with 8mm steel. They just seem to provide a slightly better power/pull ratio....but that's probably all in my head! Keep it lit, Sir!

@@CatapultCarnage I had exactly the same experience as you initially. I bought a roll as soon as it became available in the UK after various folks had been raving about it - bands barely lasted 50 shots so I binned it. Fast forward a few months and a mate gave me half a roll to try again and it was the best stuff I'd ever used! Same with further rolls I've bought. I wonder if there was an early quality issue that has now been sorted? Might be worth another punt.

Hi there! Thank you for all the information. I would like to know a few things. I'm just starting out and watching videos. Never knew that this existed and very excited about it. It looks like shooting bow and arrow but much more fun. I have shot bow and arrow but due to a disability in my left arm and the weight of the bow I was not able to hold to bow up for long. Despite that, I loved it even to I had no time in taking my shot and really aim. This I think I can do. I still have to research all the different options.. So for a beginner (I have not bought one thing) what would you recommend? I would love something light and accurate. I really want that sniper vibe and getting to know the sport. I was able to research that ttf would be a good starting point. So please give me links to what I need to buy and how to set it up. Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to read and answer. Much love from Tessa (the Netherlands)

Interesting watch! What if you need to choose between grey 0.45mm latex or orange 0.5mm latex bands for target shooting 0.8mm steel between 10 and 20 meters? o.0..

I've got GZK hammer pro after watching your review. it's an absolute beauty. very comfortable to hold and shoot. but i've got a problem. i'm getting only 5-10 shots most of the time out of my gzk band (black .80 & .72 and green .72). sometimes it doesnt even last 2 shots. my set up is 20-15 and i shoot 9.5 mm steel. The band consistently break at a specific location on the left side of the fork and some 3-5 cm away from the edge of the fork. The built quality of the catapult is absolutely great no sharp edges. i've checked it all. do u have any idea what possibly Im doing wrong?

Are you using the fiberoptic sight, Because i had the same, bands breaking 2 to 4 cm from the fork, and in the beginning same distance from pouch, or holes in it First i cut the bottom part from my sight, no breaking at pouch anymore, But at the fork, now i practice without sight and get 400 to 600 shots

@@doolum123 I'm finding .66 gzk black a little brittle as well (first time using anything other than theraband gold) not sure if its just because i run them maxed out, im going to try slightly longer bands so the stress on them is less and see how much it improves, i dont want to lose much power though so its a compromise. Maybe try 1.0mm thick band with a 10-15 taper thicker bands should in theory be stronger and wont tear from the edges as easy, thats the next thing im going to try, got a fresh roll of .66 though so want to make it work at least to use it all up lol

Excellent explanation, thank you! Newbie here. I've just received my Wasp Uniphoxx and I use the 18/12 GZK green in 0.62 for 8mm steel balls. I also have the Pocket Ranger catapult, and that came with Theraband Gold but I find that band quite hard to pull compared to the GZK. I don't actually know the taper and thickness of this (standard) band. I've still got lots to learn but I think the 15/20 in .65 is also a good option for 8mm? I'm not looking for power, but an easy to shoot band for mainly 8mm and even plastic practice ammo.

20/15 .65 band may be a bit too much for 8mm steel but if it works for you then sure

Can you make another video please showing how to tie the bands to pouches but show it real slow for me so i can learn how the bands go through the pouch and how the bands look when you put them through the pouch and what direction the bands are when through pouch and when folding the tab over what direction the bands are. Because i bought all the equipment for making my bands with the zig and all and im doing something wrong cause every video i watch there not going slow enough and showing every part of what there doing like showing the direction of bands which way they are when through pouch and when folding tab over the direction of bands. I know how to tie my bands im just messing up with putting the bands in right way and direction when tie them to pouch, please help me out. Thank you very much.

Very well explained again. Thank you. So,,, i fucked up a bit but no bother😁 I ordered a set of ten, 0.8 bands, and 8mm steel. But I don't know what my catapult comes with. So I gather 0.8 is a bit heavy for 8mm steel. Though I will order some bigger balls at some point. So what does blue do to bands? Also, I'm making a bushcraft style catapult. See my latest video! Still needs sanding, did some earlier. But a fair bit more to do. 🐕

I still can't understand exactly differences between colors. Let's say I shoot 10mm steel with 0.72 yellow and green. What is the practical difference? FPS, badset lifespan or what? Also I've seen somewhere yellow and orange GZK. Is orange a 4th type or what?
