Skyrim - Music & Ambience

Ойындар

Two hundred years have passed since the events of the Oblivion Crisis, and it is now 4E 201. The High King of Skyrim has been killed, and the threat of Civil War looms over the land of Skyrim. One side wishes to secede from the weakened Third Empire, while the other wishes to remain a part of it. To make matters worse, this schism is the final event in a prophecy foretold by the Elder Scrolls that will lead to the return of the dragons under Alduin, the Nordic god of destruction.

I still remember it. I got as far as whiterun, barely spent 15 minutes there and got sent to riften. Queue hours of random adventure. Spending an age kiteing a giant, wandering into rivers trying to find a shortcut, I cut through a mountain pass thinking I found a secret passage past the mountain blocking me, but got killed by a chaurus. Stumbled on an orc stronghold, they wouldn't let me in. Can't replicate that organic gameplay again.

Ah yes, when I continued my time-honored tradition of how I start every Elder Scrolls game, wherein after I'm given my freedom I just pick a direction and book it. I ended up being chased by a bear at one point, and tried to climb a mountain to get away from it. The bear chased me up the mountain and I made it to a weird structure, then a scary black floaty thing popped out of a box and scared the sh*t out of me and then wrecked me. Found out much later it was a dragon priest and I'd ended up running all the way to Haafingar.

I still remember visiting my family in New York for Christmas and seeing my older cousin playing this game on his PS3 setup in his unfinished basement in 2011. I was 11 at the time, and the game looked truly magical, he had just unlocked the wabbajack and was fighting some bandits with it. I was instantly hooked and got the game as soon as I came home, and I still play today. We don't talk anymore after a bit of a falling out between him and the rest of the family outside of my control, but I still think back to that day fondly. Little does he know the impact that he made on my life that night. I hope he's doing well, and I hope he's still playing Skyrim.

My therapist asked to establish a safe place to mentally retreat to while I was processing the memory, but the one I made up in my head wasn't working. Then I had an idea. I used to use the Skyrim OST for studying because I had such positive feelings associated with my time playing the game, so why not use it here? It worked extremely well. Maybe some days you will be weak--maybe even most days. But you will have your strong days. Always fight for those strong days. I too have gone through traumatic situations, though not DV, so I'm being transparent. Regardless, this mix has also helped me overcome grief and trauma with each listen. There is just something so uniquely beautiful and soulful about Skyrim and its music. If there's one thing to love about Skyrim, it's the fact that it brings us together, no matter our circumstances. Hey. I'm 49. When Skyrim came out, my son and I played in the same room on our gaming laptops and we've put so many memories into this and countless other games together. He's almost 28 now and lives quite a few states away from me (usa) but we still chat about the games we're playing and, when possible, get into servers to play together for a couple hours. I just finished Death Stranding and, tho it's taken over as #1 for me, I think it's more fair to say both Skyrim and Death Stranding hold my #1 slot. I can't see any future games knocking either 2 out of my #1 slot. Maybe a real close #2 but that's as close as they'll get.

That's the beauty of tamriel, you can escape into this magical world and just forget about the real world. I think as you get older it's the lack of time that gets in the way. It was proven to relieve stress and help with mental problems. Skyrim is just a masterpiece of sheer genius . All who play have there reasons for loving this game. I used to love playing it on really rainy days under a blanket all snug, cuppa tea and just me , my character on my own adventures. Comment below and share what makes it special for you 😃

My father in law is in his late sixties and he absolutely loves Skyrim. Eben bought a second playstation and game, so he'd be able to play it in their vacation home. My husband is a total fan himself. Me, I'm more of a WoW player, have been playing it now for over eighteen years. Never stop playing, because someone says "You're too old for this!" They're probably just jealous.

*_What It's Like To Be In Skyrim Cities During The Day_* *Whiterun:* Fresh air. Cobbled roads worn by the feet of old friends. Dogs barking and children laughing. The murmur of the marketplace. Puffy white clouds skating across the sky, overhead the thick stone walls that keep us safe. Clanking and grating sounds from Eorlund up at Jorrvaskr's Skyforge. Flowers & shrubbery brushing against the warm wooden walls of homes & shops. Idle chattering of the guards. The Companions yelling and laughing as they train to fight for us. This is home. - *Solitude:* Deep breaths. The clanging of palace bells. The bargaining shouts of merchants. Footsteps, both hurried and relaxed, tap-tap-tapping across the streets. Wooden doors open and shut from houses and shops as the citizens get ready for the day. Children burst out of their homes, giggling uncontrollably. The sound of lutes from the Bards College. The sea splashing in the distance, quiet but audible. Salty scents wafting through the docks. Tall, gorgeous towers and elegant architecture stretching high into the pale blue sky above, reminding us that we are more than we appear. This is home. - *Windhelm:* Snow crunching under boots of the wealthy and bare feet of the poor. The somber hum of the tavern, drums booming inside. Angry shouts of Nords & Dunmer. Rickety wooden doors creaking from inside the Gray Quarter. Looming boats bobbing in the frigid sea outside. Soft laughter from the old married couples of wealthy families. Argonians growling to themselves among the thumps and clanks of the docks. Blue flags whipping in the icy wind, over our heads as we silently live our lives. This is home. - *Markarth:* Tall grass blowing in the wind. Unlucky beggars muttering about the gods. Boots thunking on the uneven stone steps. The exhausted clunking of pickaxes down at the mines. Water burbling underneath the creaky wooden bridges. Guards scoffing at the citizens. The near-silence of the tavern, interrupted by the occasional bar fight. Golden Dwemer-designed doors scraping against the stone walls. The air is clean, but tinged with smoke and fear. Steam and metal clicking noises echoing from inside the palace. Guard dogs snarl out by the stables. Children walk close to their parents, proof that we must fight back against the rules binding us. This is home. - *Riften:* The smell of wood burning hanging in the air. Autumn leaves crunching underfoot. Unnerving noises echoing from the sewers. The hesitant clinking of septims in the marketplace. The scent of salt and fish wafting in from the fishery. Rugs being hung outside and beaten, filling the air around them with dust. Sly voices intertwining with defensive ones arguing over prices. Mead bottles, empty and full, roll across the bumpy cobblestones. The blacksmith grunting as he wipes the sweat from his brow. Fabrics swishing over the streets as wealthy crime families stride along them, untouched by their conscience. Water in the sewers below churning, much like the suspicion within us that we try to fight. This is home. - *Falkreath:* Dirt roads scuffing against worn shoes. The feel of cold gravestones. Sunshine inappropriately warming the buildings. Bleak sighing from both guards and citizens. Dogs barking being hastily hushed. Tiny purple flowers are quiescent, nestled in the browning grass. Wind moaning through the streets, buffeting the wooden signs hanging on houses. Long, torn purple banners flapping dejectedly, mirroring our struggle to stay positive. This is home. - *Winterhold:* Wind shrieking above the small buildings below. Guards plodding up and down the snowy street, refusing to go near the College. Watchful eyes of magic users burning into the backs of citizens. Shop owners smiling despite their monetary struggles. The sea roaring beyond, forever scarring the people. Inviting music floats out from the tavern, providing solace in this desolate place. Light spirals up from the College, an attempt to feel pride in our city once again. This is home. - *Morthal:* Croaks of creatures in the marshes travelling in the wind. Cool air drifting in from the waters. Spots of snow spraying into the air as merchants and citizens walk by. Hushed rumours passing from person to person. Weak sunlight breaking the dark pine trees. Quiet warnings to children about behaving, or the vampires will come. Footsteps quickening as they pass the wizard's home. Guards sympathetically trying to reassure the uneasy citizens about the Jarl, even though we want to take charge of our troubles alone. This is home. - *Dawnstar:* Miners whistling as they lug materials around. Wooden carts rolling and bumping along, full of ore and tools. Tired gazes following each other. Children laughing in the face of hardship. The tavern crooning with music and warmth long into the night. Grey clouds diluting the sun as the day wears on. Boats and fishing lines wobbling in the water. Mutterings of rival miners making their way across town. Insecure faith in the gods wavering, as we try to cope with our nightmares. This is home.

The music is so perfect to wandering in Skyrim, that sometimes it leaks out. I can see pictures of mountains and castles and whatnot online, and I hear the music in the back of my mind. I had it running on an old laptop and modded it as much as I could with environment, weather, and ENB mods.Heh... It turned out so beautiful that I lost interest in completing any of the quests, I just wanted to wander around and marvel at the beauty [tourist]. Of course, I get set upon by bandits, etc., and I loot the bodies, but I have so much gold that I don't bother selling anything, I just take it to my house and dump it [antique collector].And between my impatience with getting to high places to survey the domain, and my lack of following roads in general, I find myself going up the sides of mountains by jumping instead of taking time to find the road that leads there [mountain goat].But I haven't played it in years... not enough horsepower in the old laptop. You know you have played too much Skyrim when you drive down the road and see flowers and you wonder if you should gather them for alchemy, or you watch a movie and when someone gets killed you think "aren't they going to loot the bodies!?"

This may sound cheesy but what gets me about this is that the music wasn’t just a theme to a game. It was a theme associated with a particular point in my life. This music not only transports me back into a world that captivated my imagination but it also takes me back to younger days when me and my wife first met, still young enough to essentially have 0 responsibilities and how we would just close the curtains, buy some munch from the local shop and just take it in turns watching each other explore Tamriel for hours and days on end. Makes me smile every time. 😊

You can never forget something amazing as you first play through Skyrim. Hearing the music, the funny jokes, discovering new places, interacting with characters and investing in their stories, collecting every shiny item you came around, going into a tavern to see your favorite ally and follower, and finally modding the hell out of it to make it as real as possible or as jiggly as possible if anyone catches my drift. You can never forget the feeling, NEVER

This feels so surreal. I remember the days when I was a teen, playing Skyrim every day after school. For me this game is more than just a game, it's a story and a living world that helped me to grow up and find confidence in myself, create a dream. Traveling across Tamriel, listening to this music, I remember how incredible it felt and how I wanted to do something alike in the real world. Nowadays, I'm a journalist and a writer. I travel a lot and often go to beautiful places such as snowy mountains and green woods. Every time I do that, I think of Skyrim. I think of this music. And I feel happiness (maybe with a bit of sadness). This one says thank you to everyone from the TES community and to the creator of this mix. May the Moons guide you, friend.

And here's the full updated list of the locations, as well as memory serves. Corrections welcome if you notice any! 0:02 - Probably a few steps north of Evergreen Grove. 1:35 - Next to Ustengrav. Only place in the marsh with this view to Solitude. 2:42 - A mysterious location in the Rift, with a view over to the Throat. Best guess would be next to Heartwood Mill. 4:10 - Wow this is obscure. Based on vegetation, I'd say around Embershard Mine, close to Riverwood. 5:05 - Windhelm docks. I hear they don't treat the Argonians right. 7:00 - Peak's Shade Tower, 100%. On the road east from Falkreath. 8:30 - I'd say this is the orc stronghold in the southwest of the Reach, Dushhikh Yal, or something. 10:12 - A pretty bridge in the Rift, next to Broken Helm Hollow. Rumor has it there's some awfully good lumber trades going around there. 11:30 - Sitting atop the Warmaiden's, Adrianne's shop in Whiterun. 13:50 - A good view over the main thoroughfare of Riverwood. Embry, in the distance, is on the lookout for a fresh drink. 14:40 - Riften marketplace. Did you know you can drop Madesi's ring and not have to put Brand-shei out of business? 16:15 - Winterhold and its eponymous college. I hope you've mastered the expert destruction spells. 18:10 - A peaceful stroll in Falkreath. I can hear Siddgeir munching on succulent meat in the longhouse on the left. 20:00 - Vokun hovering about in High Gate Ruins, ready to fireball your face. And all Anska wanted was a simple scroll. 22:00 - Blackreach, quite close to the entrance from Alftand. 22:50 - The bridge to Windhelm. Do you have any idea how dull horses are? 24:25 - And then we head into Windhelm. Hjerim, a potential home (needs a bit of cleanup), on the left. 25:30 - The stairs up to Hillgrund's Tomb, on the road from Whiterun to Ivarstead. Spotted some good game along the way. 27:00 - And this should be High Gate Ruins from the outside. Took me ages to remember. 29:00 - The plains outside Whiterun. 32:30 - Okay you got me. Best guess, near Riverwood, some way east. Hell if I know. 35:10 - Somewhere on the hills near Cragslane Cavern. I think that's the Bonestrewn Crest over in the distance. 36:20 - The Ritual Stone. The necromancer up there s just asking for it. 39:00 - Is this the entrance to Ragnvald? 40:45 - Could be the waterfalls just south of Robber's Gorge. 42:40 - Angarvunde. There's an unfortunate prize waiting for a greedy heart. 44:40 - The view over to Dragonbridge from the south. 46:15 - I'll hazard this is inside Gloombound Mine. Great place for mining ebony, if the orcs don't get you first. 47:19 - Fort Amol Prison. Typically overrun with conjurers and the like - which, in turn, are overrun by you. 48:35 - The main road of Riverwood. With all decent folk off to bed, only the chicken patrols. 50:38 - Solitude, with a view over to the Blue Palace and the Bards College up ahead. 51:44 - Solitude again, high on the ramparts of Castle Dour. A different, bird's eye view of the Blue Palace in the distance. 53:16 - Can't figure out the landmarks; my best guess would be somewhere between Riverwood and Falkreath. 55:02 - On the north glaciers near Hob's Fall Cave. A lone spire of Alftand puncturing through the ice over there. 56:12 - Shroud Hearth Barrow. The bridge to the left of the wall is broken; a shout can carry you across for treasure. 57:53 - I believe this is also Shroud Hearth Barrow, near the entrance where the ghostly Wyndelius recommends you leave this place. Hey, it's just a fabrication. 59:15 - A nightly view over Dragonsreach in Whiterun. 1:01:08 - Reach Imperial Camp, just south of Bthardamz, a vast dwemer ruin. 1:03:28 - The great Shrine of Azura. Your coming was foretold. 1:04:30 - Mara's Eye Pond. The mudcrabs on the islet are fierce guardians to a macabre secret beneath. 1:06:50 - A Dragon Mound, likely north of the pass towards Falkreath, near Half-moon Mill. 1:08:03 - A relaxing bath in the geysers around the Atronach Stone. 1:10:15 - Sleeping Giant Inn, Riverwood. Delphine sweeping away, and nope, Orgnar ain't got potatos in his ears. 1:11:42 - The Bannered Mare, Whiterun. Mikael keeping the folk entertained, as befits a bard of his talent. 1:14:04 - Jorrvaskr, Whiterun. Aela and Farkas engaged in a staring contest across the table. 1:15:30 - Mistveil Keep, Riften. The Jarl's throne sits empty (probably best so), while Wylandriah rummages about, probably having misplaced something. 1:16:06 - Standing upon the walls of Jorrvaskr, overlooking the Wind District. 1:17:38 - Solitude Harbor, lollygagging outside the Red Wave, an infamous pirate vessel. 1:18:55 - A glorious view over Markarth and Understone Keep. 1:19:52 - The White River, just west of Riverwood. The salmon are jumping upstream, no doubt on their way to the Guardian Stones. 1:21:38 - A part of the external ruins outside Snow Veil Sanctum, on the forbidding wastes far north above Windhelm. 1:23:20 - This is in Alftand, the Animonculory section. All kinds of glittering treasure on the sides - if your fingers are nimble enough. 1:24:26 - I would believe this is Mzinchaleft, due to the warmer hues of the place. Southwest of Dawnstar, and filled with all manner of vagrants. 1:25:45 - On the beach outside Hela's Folly, northeast of Dawnstar. There's an argonian, Deekus, minding his business and the pickings of the wreck. 1:30:25 - The moons, Masser and Secunda. Seen from where, beats the crap out of me. Would presume high up north since the air is very clear. 1:32:37 - Brittleshin Pass! Damn this one took me forever. A great shortcut from the plains of Whiterun back to Lake Ilinata. 1:34:42 - Blackreach. The place is immense. There's also a chance for a Dragonborn to awaken a slumbering beast. 1:36:40 - Mixwater Mill. Tucked on the side of a sightly road south of Windhelm. 1:40:35 - Just outside of the Helgen Cave, on the road north towards the Guardian Stones. Bleak Falls Barrow looming in the distance. 1:43:00 - On the banks of the river looking up towards Lost Valley Redoubt. Some nasty rituals going on up there. 1:44:43 - Dragonsreach, in the great hall. Jarl Balgruuf in his ubiquitous, lordly pose upon the throne. 1:46:14 - Candlehearth Hall, upstairs. Arivanya sitting up front with a mug of ale, no doubt brooding over the unimaginable boredom of horses. 1:48:22 - The Winking Skeever, the prime tavern in Solitude. Despite the name, Corpulus keeps a clean inn. 1:49:35 - The Silver-Blood Inn. The enterprise is likely the only thing keeping the owners Kleppr and Frabbi together. 1:50:52 - A sight not meant for mortal eyes; this is Sovngarde, the Hall of Shor, guarded by Tsun the Mighty. 1:52:27 - Another shot from the Hall of Shor, where the heroes both old and new revel in the timeless stories of their adventures in life. 1:54:06 - The Hall of the Dead in Whiterun. Andurs, the local priest, has misplaced his amulet in the tomb. There's also a book, Death blow of Abernanit, in the leftmost room. 1:55:18 - I confess, this has me oddly stumped. My best guess is Dustman's Cairn, but if you know better, let me know. 1:56:50 - Anga's Mill, upriver west of Windhelm. What we're witnessing here is the camp of Ennodius Papius, an emaciated beggar. 1:59:20 - The courtyard of Castle Dour in Solitude. 2:01:32 - On the seven thousands steps -pilgrimage up to High Hrothgar. If you've made it this far, you know there's well more than "the occasional wolf or stray" on this path. 2:04:06 - A bleak place called the Abandoned Prison, down the road east from Whiterun and past the Valtheim Towers. 2:05:01 - In the Avanchnzel Animoncultory. This was once a functioning factory for Dwemer Centurions, now a trove of exquisite loot. Just be careful what you take. 2:06:32 - Reachwind Eyrie, southwest of Markarth. A largely useless but picturesque tower. 2:08:44 - A hunter's camp opposite Sunderstone Gorge north of Falkreath. One of my favorite places for a rest. 2:11:07 - Nightgate Inn, one of the rare warm beds on the way from Dawnstar to Windhelm. There's an orc downstairs of peculiar civility. 2:15:17 - Yngol Barrow, northeast of Windhelm. If you're looking to fight in style, there's a helmet like no other stashed here. 2:16:26 - Broken Oar Grotto. The gentlefolk over in this caved-in hideaway are up to no good. And they'll drag you down with them. 2:17:40 - Uncertain of this one, but guessing Fort Sungard, the gigantic fortress up on a hill between Markarth and Whiterun. 2:19:02 - The puzzle door of Korvanjund, where the Ebony Claw will prove invaluable. 2:20:23 - Merryfair Farm, just outside of Riften. As if they don't have it hard enough, some slippery eel took Dravin's bow. 2:21:58 - The Atronach Stone, south of Bonestrewn Crest. Wonderful environment for a relaxing bath - if you don't mind the swooping dragon. 2:24:21 - Serpent's Bluff Redoubt, on the east borders of the Reach. The forsworn might not look like much, but they have an eye for a view. 2:26:00 - I believe this is Eldersblood Peak, on the peak of the mountain directly south of Morthal. The visit is worth the vista alone. 2:28:05 - North of Morthal, some way east from the wreck of the Icerunner.

this game taught the importance of a silent protagonist. it allows you to immerse yourself completely into the world of skyrim. Modern RPGs dont have this these days, i cant immerse myself into geralt or Aloy and feel like i am exploring a new world. because i get constantly reminded that it is not me, but someone else there. Its a shame that protagonists get personalities these days. I love the blank canvas of a character that skyrim gives u, you make the protagonist yourself!.
