Skyfire VMC-2 5 Month Review plus automatic coolant control

Ғылым және технология

Skyfire VMC-2 machine 5 month review. After 5 months and a few issues the Skyfire team comes through with a great Hobby + machine.
There where a couple issues in the beginning but after getting things figured out with the new upgraded VFD controller that had shipped to the USA in the newest machines things are awesome.

Great work Jack. I love your automatic coolant idea. Now that's bloody clever if you ask me. You need to start selling those. Huge thumbs up mate. Cheers, Aaron

Thanks Aaron, I have a few in the works at the moment. Sent off the Provisional patent work the other day so I'm kinda safe. Never safe from that other country though, they'll steal anything to keep their people working. So sad. Hopefully I can sell it as the "Original".

Glad to hear a good review on the Skyfire! I was in the process of placing my order for one and the process (communication) just stopped. In the end, I bit the bullet and got a Haas Super Mini Mill which was 4x the cost. It looks like the Skyfire blows the doors off the Tormach's and can do a lot of what the mini-mill can do. Thanks for the update.....

That coolant controller looks perfect! Aiming the coolant with just loclines is such a pain and most of the other solutions seem to rely on trigonometry to calculate slight angle changes. Your solution, only moving the nozzle linearly, looks far superior.

Thanks Hirudin, It does make life a lot easier along with the code.

Great video Jack, its good to hear some positive feed back. My SVM2 has had one or two minor issues but they have all been resolved and Im enjoying the machine now. By the way thanks for pursuing the rigid tapping issue which led to a solution, mines tapping well now. Phil.

Hi Jack. Helpful video. Thank you. Curious, now nearly four years later: are you still running your Skyfire? Still happy with it?

I sold it 3 years ago. Not because of any issues as I fixed all those I just wanted my garage back. Takes up a lot of room.

I have a SkyfireVMC (SVM-2V) machine with CNC4640+FCNC4M, from 2016. And the system crashed, and I reinstall the system, but I lose all the parameters. Can anyone help me get the parameters? Thank you

I have a question, do you see that when the machine moves fast, the structure shakes, does this affect the final machining finish? and also know if you use the machine for work or just hobbies, greetings

Hi, It did not effect the finish but sold the machine a couple years ago.

@@Roadstercycle Hi. What kind of issues caused you to sell it? I am 'considering' buying one, so your input would be helpful.

Thanks so much for posting these videos. These machines are quite interesting. Are you saying you got the machine with the 4th axis and the 5-axis controller delivered for $20K (including duty/tariff, etc)? Holy smokes. The machine has a great combination of travel and HP, linear ways, amazing at that price. A Tormach this size with the tool changer and a 4th axis would be about $30K I think. Did you go through anyone like Alibaba? I was also wondering about using their US importer, but not sure if that is better or buying direct. I love the programmable coolant setup. How's that coming along?

I agree the Tormach was almost $30,000 when I did price comparison. My was delivered with all costs and some tooling for right at $20,000. I used Jan Bos as the importer. I did not use Alibaba or go direct. I wanted a middle man. The auto coolant setup works great and have built a few.

ALY-TEK Hi, I'm in the process of making some automatic and some manual with outside the machine up and down adjustability if someone does not have an open axis to use. I won't have a good idea about price for few weeks. I'm also working on a macro for the post processor to use the tool offset as the reference for the control. I've been putting in the code manual through the testing stages.

What's that sound when the axes are moving? It doesn't seems right. Is this a servo tunning issue? I think there was a video addressing this issue. Other than that, that coolant controller is awesome!

Vasi, I really don't know about that sound, I believe you may be right but I really have never tuned servos or had a machine with them so I'm not going to mess with it as it works great and I don't want to take a chance and brick it. The coolant control is pretty cool, It took some time to figure out but it was worth it in the end. I'm going to make up a few sets for field testing.

I thought I heard the same thing but with music playing in the background, it made it difficult to filter the source. When doing product reviews, I really prefer no music playing - drives me crazy.

Hi Doug I agree, The cd was on in the background and was not supposed to be just an oversight by me. Later I noticed it but too late. I could have redone it but it was up and going so next time I'll make sure not to have music playing. I need to take a servo tuning class I guess.
