Hi Michael, The first Mustang is doing well. It's owned by AEM/Holly now and being used as an EV product test bed. They just took it to the drag strip with a swapped base motor now and ran some pretty great numbers. I can't give out the numbers until their promotion video is released. They use the Mustang in their video.

Very cool! I like the Model 3 subframe size a little better than the model S. Should be easier to get wheel offsets to fit a range of cars. Can't wait to see this come together!

Thanks Kevin, It should be a good fit. The Model S in the Muskstang was a real challenge because of the width. Ended up using Corvette wheels with a 79mm offset to keep them inside the fender wells. The Model 3 is only a tad difference.

Next project after this one consider putting a Model 3 RDU in the back of a Honda Civic with a K-series motor up front. A through-the-road hybrid AWD system is exceptionally rare, but would make sense on a Honda. The batteries would really only need to be big enough to get it to launch up to 30MPH then shut off. Charging could be done by dragging the Tesla portion of the powertrain in a low regen mode. Coincidentally, the Honda shares not only the Ford bolt pattern (5x114.3) but also the exact same hub bore diameter. Honda just uses 12mm lugs instead of 14mm.

That Honda motor would lose to an identical version without the ICE motor and more battery. The fastest production cars on earth are all electric now for a reason.

@@cyumadbrosummit3534 I’m a big proponent of EVs and I own a Tesla, but there are no Teslas pulling 7s in the 1/4mile like some Hondas. Plus, endurance racing is nearly impossible for EVs.

All this is great to know. Why don't you build it? I'll subscribe for sure. Sounds a little less insane than the VW beetle build that a guy put a jet engine in and kept the front engine to pass smog. It was quite the build. Saw it years ago on KZread somewhere.

@@Shiftheads Cool. Are you going to have two throttles? One drive-by-wire throttle with two outputs? Or just trigger the Tesla RDU at WOT like nitrous? I’m looking forward to it doing FWD, RWD, and AWD burnouts.

Hi, AEM company bought the car and they are going to be releasing a performance video very soon. The car with a Base motor Tesla did 11.8 seconds continuously in the 1/4 mile when they tested it. I sold it to them with the Sport motor so that should be their next testing with their control board. I can't wait to see that. The rocker was change to a full push button control console which is available on the AEM-EV website.

Hi Jack!...The TESLA Model 3 Performance motor is rated at 450HP!...What is the Diameter and Width of the Bullet Wheels you're using on the rear on the Mustang?...What kind of Performance are you looking at in the 2006 EV Mustang?...I have a 2008 V6 automatic Mustang and I was wondering what it would Cost using a Tesla MODEL 3 Performance Motor and or the TESLA Model S Motor?...Thank You and God Bless America! 😇

  • @Roadstercycle

Actually the model 3 performance dual motor is rated at 450 horse power from what I understand not just the rear motor. If I'm wrong please let me know where you found that as that would be awesome to see. The rear wheels are 18" x 10". I think 285 will fit perfect inside the wheel wells. 195 may need a bit of fender messaging. That's ok too. The fronts will be 18 x 9 so I can clear the 2012 GT rotors and brake calipers.

Actually when AEM bought my car they swapped the Sport motor over to a base motor for testing first. They took to the drag strip and ran 11.80 seconds 7 times in a row. It actually beat 2 P90s that they took for comparison. Now they are putting in the sport motor again for testing. Probably a month or so before we get those numbers.

Keep an eye out for an upcoming video of the VW Rabbit build as it has another solution to the subframe issue. Split motor direct drive to a stock Mustang diff or a drive shaft to a stock Mustang or Camaro diff.
