Skipping Drills To Improve Running Technique And Prevent Injury - Basic

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Skipping is considered the pre-eminent running drill to hone correct technique at all speeds. Of course precise and explosive technique is especially important for sprinting, but it's also very important for joggers too (watch ‘Brad Kearns Running Form video - link below). Doing these drills also helps improve mobility, flexibility, and balance, and strengthens the muscles and connective tissues so you can absorb and benefit from high intensity sprint sessions without getting injured.
Essentially, skipping isolates certain phases of the running stride to train your central nervous system to fire muscles in the proper order with precise form to generate maximum propulsive force with each stride. In this video, Brad demonstrates 10 variations on the basic skipping motion at Basic degree of difficulty. Watch the Intermediate and Advanced videos when you're ready. Here are the drills you'll learn in this video:
Regular skip
Delay skip
Fast skip
High skip
Long skip
B-skip
Long B-skip

Good video on basic steps. One comment though about hill strikers. I used to thinking the same way. However, there are plenty of pro elite runners, men and women, that are hill strikers still winning medium distances, half marathons, full marathons, ultras, and iron mans out there. So I say let your feet fall naturally whatever your body mechanics allow.

When doing running drills do you think wearing low to the ground sneaks are best or does it not matter? Ground feel

2:47 Grandpa, your spine was wobbling as if you used it to regulate recoil of each stride just to fully extend your supporting leg. Is it bad if I rather not fully extend that supporting leg so that it acts as the recoil regulation mechanism instead of my spine and head in the way your spine and head do as they are bounce about?

Chari Hawkins explains it better, I mean B-skip. The rest is self called terms. Also, you are wrong about heel strike as most of long distance athletes are doing it, at lease my friend who is Olympic champion. Cheers.
