    As an oily, sweaty, and acneic guy who only wears water- and sweat-resistant sunscreen and reapplies it throughout the day since I live in a tropical, very hot & humid country, I find that cleansing oil + water-based cleanser is a game changer for me. Using a gentle water-based cleanser once or even twice are sometimes not enough to remove all the debris on my face. I have also tried using a cleanser with stronger surfactants to see if it will be enough as a single-cleanse routine, but no. I have also tried micellar water, but I feel like that's more suitable for makeup really, also I just don't gravitate towards micellar water, I don't prefer having to use a pad, I'm lazy lmao. I just wanna use my hands.

    @@ced3069I hear you on the micellar water. Which is why I use a *micellar gel* as the first step in my double cleanse, less pads more hands 🤦🏾‍♂️🫣🧖🏾‍♂️. I find it to be a better investment & more therapeutic: - La Roche-Posay Rosaliac Micellar Make Up Removal Gel 195ml Then follow up with whatever active acne treatment that addresses the type of acne you have as your second cleanse: - CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser 236ml (2% Salicylic Acid) - The Inkey List Acne Solution 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser 150ml - De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment 73.7g (10% Sulfur) - Q+A Oat Milk Cream Cleanser 125ml (Colloidal oats is not necessarily an acne treatment but it does help by repairing an inflamed Skin Barrier) Hope this helps!

  • @seralynn7286

    @seralynn7286

    Күн бұрын

    @@anncude531 I assume you're asking Dr. Idriss of course, but for what it's worth, I do exactly that. I use the SK-II essence how she recommended in the video for longevity -- I transfer it into a spray bottle (I use an amber-colored glass spray bottle with a plastic top that I bought on amazon) and use it twice daily before her hyper serum. I was using the essence for a while before her serum, and to be honest, I'm not really sure if it has helped at all. I know some of its benefit might just be in "anti-aging" (like how they found the active ingredient by noticing factory workers in a facility that used the active ingredient had smoother hands than faces), but I haven't noticed anything else from that alone. After adding her hyper serum, I have seen a small additional benefit. I think that my skin appears more hydrated and my freckles look a bit lighter. I haven't noticed much reduction in my mild rosacea yet, but it's only been a month and a half so it's possible it might improve more over time :). Either way though, there are a lot of essences with galactomyces out there and while SK-II has the patent on this particular strain, there is not any evidence (that I could find) stating that it has proven benefits over another strain. That's not to say it doesn't, but after I finish my current bottle (which has lasted 6 months so far and I would guess by the amount remaining it'll last an additional 4-ish months), I'm not going to purchase another one for a while just to see if I notice any changes in my skin.

    Yes to almost everything but I will never give up my oil cleansers. I've used them for ten years as part of double cleansing and I've never had a single issue for my sensitive, combo, slightly acne prone skin. They melt away makeup and sunscreen and even when I'm not wearing anything I can feel a difference if I just use a regular cleanser. Double cleansing makes my pores visibly cleaner and my skin softer; it ALWAYS looks and feels better than a regular cleanser alone. I think the issue might be people using ONLY an oil cleanser and not following it up with a regular one. But of course everyone's skin is different. I just wanted to put this out there in case anyone starts doubting oil cleansers now.

The key is finding the right one and making sure it emulsifies well and that your water-based cleanser cuts through that oil really well. I've been double cleansing for almost ten years now and it's helped with acne so much because there's no leftover makeup.

    I’ve heard you reference how if you aren’t allergic or sensitive to product(s) containing fragrance, then don’t fear them/discontinue using them just based on other dermatologists tending to recommend against fragrances. I believe the same principle applies to this sensitivity/inflammatory effect of hyaluronic acid that you are mentioning in this video. If HA doesn’t cause this effect for me, then why fear it? I think it’s also worth mentioning that it depends on overall formulation of the product - certain ingredients often enhance the penetration of HA. Just because an individual didn’t tolerate it in one formulation, doesn’t mean that they also won’t tolerate it in another formulation. Ever since the ordinary’s single ingredient HA serum, I also agree that HA is being used in too many products that go on an individuals’ skin on a regular basis. There are better humectants on the market like glycerin that you mentioned anyway, but HA is still in my routine minimally and causes no problems for me.

    Agree with the oil cleanser part, tried more than 5 products and it breaks me out everytime. My acne and Perioral Dermatitis always flare up when i use oil cleanser. In general, single cleanse and/or double cleansing with micellar water is the best. I use waterproof sunscreen btw, sometimes makeup too.

    I am not particularly acne prone. I use an oil cleanser only when I wear makeup and always follow up with a gel cleanser. I have never been much of a toner person. I have a pretty simple skin care routine. AM: cleanser, serum (vit C or niacinamide/zinc, etc.) and sunscreen/moisturizer. PM: oil cleanser (if necessary), gel cleanser, retinol and moisturizer. I don't always use a separate eye cream. I did get a hyaluronic acid product b/c it was all the trend but I almost never use it for the very reasons you noted. I love your videos and thank you so much for all you do.

    Oil cleansing gels are my step one on face cleansing to remove my face makeup and neck to remove sunscreen. I have always wanted to try a balm but the oil works too good. 🤷🏻‍♀️ . Then I go in with my step 2 drugstore face wash. It works for me 😎 I thought an essence / toners are like serums?!? Key 🔑 rule: is to know the ingredients mainly the active ingredients.

    Wash your vulva with soap and water, or sensitive body wash. Do not wash your vagina, ever. She is self cleaning and any kind of wash, douche, feminine wash will upset her ph level. As for shaving - you don’t have to if you don’t want to. Don’t let anyone tell you that you should do, it’s a ridiculous beauty standard which tells women and girls that they should do it to the extreme. Normal washing there too is sufficient. If you want to shave, for yourself, go right ahead. Just make sure you use a sharp razor and sensitive wash.

So I stopped using it and disinfected the bottle. Hadn't used it since. I wasn't sure If I formulated it wrong or not. 🙄 Whew! 😆Now I can start again! ☺️ Have a fantastic weekend! 🥰

    Don’t believe influencers when they endorse a product especially those who are not doctors. They are paid to do that. Skin care is also trial and error. What works for you may not work for your bestfriend. I have been using oil cleansers followed by a cream cleanser at night for 15yrs and it really keeps my skin blackhead free (im normal to dry sometimes). Thanks for the very informative video Dr. Idriss!❤❤❤

    Your hair is gorgeous, I love the waviness!😍 Would you ever do a video talking about HOW to try out new products? I’ve wanted to know how people like you do it, because I know you’ve tested many things and you know what to look for. It’s hard for me to discern what works and what is irritating, because what with menstrual cycles, how I slept , what I ate, etc., it’s hard to figure out if my skin looks the way it does due to a skincare product I tried versus all those other physical factors. So. How do the experts test and properly evaluate new products??

    I'm still mad about how much we were lied to about hyaluronic acid SMH. Not knowing better I told so many people that they should be using it. Combo, acne prone and sometimes sensitive skin - i looove me some oil clenaser as the first step, doesn't break me out, i don't like micellar water at all, reduced number of comedones. When it comes to hydrating toners/essences, I use them for hydration/soothing boosting step in my routine instead of the serum, and if i don't use the additional hydration steps it really shows (rationale is following: 200 or 150ml of toner/essence usually costs the same as 30 or 50ml serum, and yes it's less potent, but if no actives in it i can layer few layers of it based on my (de)hydration needs, and so far I've had few who offer impressive hydrating properties and make my skin supple, dewy and happy). So the bottom line when it comes to toner/essence story is you gotta know why you using it for and if you need that objective at all (as for everything else in the skincare)

    Thank you for this! I used to use several products both day and night. My skin looked great, but I got burned out with the excessive routines. So I used up the things that I wanted to cut out and did not repurchase. My routine now is 2-3 products in the morning and (depending on how my skin feels) only 6-7 at night (down from 8-10). AM - Timeless vitamin C 20% Bonajour water cream, if needed (or some other lightweight moisturizer) Sunscreen PM: Vanicream cleanser (I don’t wear make up, so no need really for an oil cleanser. If I have applied a lot of sunscreen throughout the day, I just wash my face twice.) Timeless CoQ10 serum CeraVe nighttime skin renewal moisturizer my prescription tretinoin formulas from Agency for the face And their eye cream (has a little tretinoin in it) Laneige on my lips Sometimes I will use the Cicaplast Balm from LaRoche Posay if I need a little extra moisturizer or if there’s some irritation. And at least one night a week, I will skip the tretinoin and use CeraVe healing ointment or a zinc oxide cream all over.
